I read about that too... now, if they were playing Police Story, then I'd probably actually go to New York :P Here's hoping Dragon Dynasty will do this more often with their older films.

Chow Yun Fat (rather his wife) wasn't interested in organizing an interview. Tony Leung never said yes or no, Teresa Mo said yes then no whilst Anthony Wong plainly said no.

John Woo, Terrance Chang, Philip Chan and Kwok Choi are the only participents.

Teresa Mo has a prick? Must've made shooting any love scenes really awkward.

DD is also releasing Dog Bite Dog in the coming months. Is this movie any good?

It's a very dark film and features Edison Chen in his best acting efforts so far. However, I wasn't overly impressed by the film, especially with its artificial last 15 minutes.

The ending is great, except from the very last song. And the film is probably the best HK movie of the past few years.

hey,

I was pretty much with Soi Cheang's direction up till the very final moments but it's compelling otherwise in its relentless darkness and pessimism (Love Battlefield worked better as a whole). Edison indeed doing better than usual and he even comes across as ambitious in the dvd interviews. Totally unlike his gangsta talk otherwise. :)

Word is that the 2 disc "Hard Boiled" only contains dubtitles (the same ones the Winstar has).

Two things:

"The dragon dynasty will absolutely blow Criterion out of the water in terms of a/v quality. The double dip is more than justified."

Secondly: Did DD create a new dub? If so like Bichunmoo Premier Asia it's feasible the subtitles are as accurate as the dub? I'm presuming but it's possible and has been done before.

Oh yeah, we keep forgetting that not many Americans have region-free DVD players or import them, so the best they last had was the shithouse direct LD port from Criterion (Which was inexcusable, stop defending their early efforts Grim).

Great. Again they somehow manage to fuck up a classic movie by only including dubtitles. How come companies keep making the same mistakes?
Why is it so fucking hard to just get a good translator in and create good subs!?

It's expensive to do a new translation isn't it?
Eva I will defend some of Criterion's early efforts (eg Seven Samurai) because back in the day (1998) getting such a long movie on 1 side of a DVD was an achievement in itself, ignoring the fact it was so old. It had pretty good extras too. Of course its been superceded now, thats fair enough. But it was very good for the time.

No, fansubbers often do translations on a weekly basis that rival many pro efforts. All this for free.

I don't get how so many people claim that fansubs are more accurate than DVD subs when they don't even speak the language of the film they are talking about. They just "hear" from other people that they are more accurate, but they don't know for certain.

Maybe it's because most fansubs are done by people who actually speak both languages (well), where-as dubtitles just base all the text on the english text, which is often a re-written script so the words match the mouths on-screen?

Plus there's the whole story of subtitles in Dutch or German or whatever, where the dutch subs are based on the english DUB-titles, based on a re-written script... ;)

One of the worst examples of dubtitling are the subtitles for the 1974 Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla. For the Sony DVD, whoever was doing the subs couldn't decipher one word so left it as ??? These same subs ended up on the Madman Region 4 DVD

The played the same song over the credits of After This Our Exile. There the song fits better.

I enjoyed it. Jung Doo-Hong is a really cool lead and it's good to see him in front of the camera every now and then. This time it's him and the director who are the leading guys.

Hard Boiled:- largely unmanipulated transfer, Cantonese mono, Bey extras.

Dubtitles. Solution: Rip and use the Tartan CE's superb proper subs or get the Stranglehold LE for PS3 (HD transfer), which'll probably have dubtitles too (taken from DD masters).
