Mission Impossible 3 - 3/5

Hmmm. I really cant decide whether this is a 2.5/5 or 3/5 film, its a pretty low 3/5 as it is.
The film starts with Philip Seymour Hoffman verbally torturing Tom Cruise about something called the "rabbit's foot" - tell him where it is, otherwise his wife will be killed.
Then his wife is apparently shot, and the film starts. Cut to Tom's house, having a party with friends. Eh?
Then I remembered who the director of this film is - JJ Abrahams - it uses a favourite device of the Lost TV show - the flashback events will supposedly be explained later on in the film - except we never find out what the Rabbit's Foot is, or why it's important (?)
However, the film is exciting and action packed certainly, but seems long and confusing with it - Hoffman could be forgiven for wondering what the hell was going on - as I was at first - when Cruise (disguised perfectly as Hoffman) breaks into the bathroom, getting him to read from a poem
Hoffman seemed a more interesting villain than your typical cookie cutter bad guy, which I thought was good.
Simon Pegg provides Brit comic relief, though even that seems odd as everyone else in the film is so straight.
Maggie Q looks amazing in the part when she gets out the car in the "red dress" though :)

That was the only highlight for me.

:D Yeah, but you don't like many films ;)
I stand by my score - its either a high 2.5 or a low 3, it was exciting, just some of the moments werent explained very well (like the face swapping stuff) and it was confusing IMO. I guess they could have explained what the rabbits foot was but it would have been something like a nuclear reactor or something. Pegg sort of explains it, but not very well. When he mentioned "anti God"/anti religion and considering the fact some of the film takes place in Italy/the Vatican, the first thing I thought of was Dan Brown's book "Angels and Demons".
When Cruise gets engaged to his wife, why was I thinking of Cruise getting married to Katie Holmes and scientology nonsense? There were also a couple of remarks that seemed like references to Iraq/the US in the Middle East.

Fuck, what is up with these disappearing posts? I thought Mordib would've fixed this shit by now.

Anyway, I thought that Transformers had superb pacing, the 2.5 hours just flew by.

I can only assume that these "people" as you call them, are pod-people who have been brainwashed by Michael Bay's cronnies.

The Foreigner - 3/5
And this was supposed to be bad? It was better than Die Hard 4. Seagal is still the man.

The Machinist is top notch viewing, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5. I really liked MI3 - 4/5.

Transformers: 2/5

Mildly entertaining but lacked story or character development. Special effects were brilliant and some of the best I've seen. Still I left the theater bored.

Sicko - 2/5
Moore has some good points and all but it's just the way in which he goes about presenting them... He does nothing but leave himself open to dissection because he's all over the place. I think he'd have much more effect if he made real documentaries instead of stupid films.

Top notch viewing but only 3.5/5? :?

Jackie Chan Invincible Fighter - (so far) - 1.5/5

I havent a bloody clue whats going on, atrocious subtitles that are not only burnt in English/Chinese but chopped off at the sides, the picture looks like a VHS, it even has those lines running down the picture you get when a VHS is wearing out.
I guess its good to see some early clips, except I don't know what they are.

I hope Jackie Chan's Crime Force is better.
But it only cost me £3-ish so hey ho.

Lilja 4-Ever – 4,5/5
Pretentious, but emotinally and technically strong enough for it not to be the least bit distracting. Incredibly well acted and shot and comes with perfect music choises. Two awful scenes (the mud puddle in the beginning, and the very last scene) bring down the rating a bit. Without those scenes I’d consider a 5/5 rating.

I completely agree except I didn't find it the least big pretentious. I saw it at a late night film festival showing and by leaving time gone midnight I was so emotionally drained. The scene in the mud is so, so powerful.

Boy the acting is outstanding, pity we've not seen more of the lead, except for a small part in Bourne 2.

Dead Man's Shoes 4.5/5

I knew this would be decent but wasn't expecting it to be a small masterpiece. Outstanding effort from Shane Meadows.

Transformers - 4/5
As far as I'm concerned, this is the only Summer blockbuster (and maybe Die Hard) that has lived up to the hype. Michael Bay has made some terrible movies but Transformers really surprised me!

The Family Friend (2006) - 3.5/5

From the acclaimed director of THE CONSEQUENCES OF LOVE comes this visually-stunning and highly original comedy drama. When a couple struggle to raise the money needed for their daughter Rosalba's imminent wedding, they approach Geremia di Geremei, a seedy loan shark, for help. Unbeknownst to them, the loan shark becomes increasingly infatuated with their daughter, to the point that he begins to take advantage of the situation. However, Geremei may have met his match in the astute Rosalba.

Quirky European comedy/drama, I liked it. There's something creepy/disturbing about the Geremei character, he thinks he's everyone's friend but really he's rather an asshole. One of the characters compares Geremei to a "family friend" - always there when you need him, but also there when you don't want him and just wish he'd piss off.

Here Comes Garfield - 3/5

Thought it was OK, has much of the same humour as later Garfield but Garfield and Friends was what I grew up with.

I think it works fine as a standalone movie. But a Mr. Glass v Mr. Unbreakable movie would have been cool :D
