That's too bad.
I'm still hoping for new masters when it's time for High Definition. I might not buy Japanese discs, though.

hey,
Juliet in Love (Asian Star)
Sweet. Mei Ah isn't catastrophic but I wouldn't mind a 16:9 upgrade.

Wow as far as "Juliet in Love" is concerned. I'm tempted to create the first customised DVD as this is one stand out title and could really need the good picture quality.

Good news for those who don't want to wait until september to buy the UK version of Satoshi Kon's Paprika:
The french 2-disc set has english subs.

Only for the movie, though. The audio commentary only has french subs.

I see. I'm going to pass then. If it was a one of the distributors that is releasing those awesome French discs of Asian movies, I'd buy one to support the fact that they use English subs which might have resuklted in them always using English subs.

Update:

Mad Asia (M6) will release "Hinokio - Inter Galactic Love" on August 8th.

Unknown extras at the moment.
I doubt this disc can beat the HK or JP versions in terms of picture quality.

Got a few covers for you guys:

All Seven Sept titles should feature remastered FS prints.

Seven Sept's Police Story (July 17th):

Seven Sept's Police Story 2 (July 17th):

Seven Sept's Crime Story (July 17th):

Seven Sept's Armour of God (August 13th):

Yes, the french title is Mister Dynamite. :D
Don't ask.

Seven Sept's Operation Condor (August 13th):

Seven Sept's From Beijing with Love (September 18th):

Mad Asia's Musa (October 17th):

Could be a rebadged version of the old M6 disc.

Mad Asia's Legend of the Red Dragon (August 1st):

I might buy a few of them for the improved subtitles. 8)
And I'm glad we're finally getting a proper release of From Beijing with Love.

What is the best English friendly DVD of FBWL? I used to have the old "Siren" VHS from Australia.

Bons Baisers de Pekin (?) = Good Lovers From Beijing? :?
I quite like the Police Story covers.

Mister Dynamite :D

Nice Jackie covers. Will get Police Story 1&2 and Armour of God 2 unless they're downmixes. And Peking too. That one should be fine cause I don't think it's a FS title.

Bons baisers de Pékin -> Kisses from Beijing (literally).

New Jackie dvd reviews:

http://www.hkcinemagic.com/fr/main.asp

Tom, we need you :D

But it doesn't sound very good. Something about 5.1 and 2.0 tracks sounding very similiar, right? Downmixes maybe?

Those reviews are a bit vague. It seems the reviewer doesn't know what he's talking about at all.

Based on what he says:

Project A 2:
The 5.1 track's sound effects are muffled.
The stereo track is much clearer.
This would suggest it's not a downmix.

Young Master:
The 5.1 and the stereo tracks sound pretty much the same.
Probable downmix.

Project A:
The stereo soundtrack contains the original sound for the fighting scenes.
This would suggest "no new foley effects" / no downmix.

Police Story 1 & 2:
Probable downmixes.

Dragon Lord:
Probable downmix.

Note:
Since this HK Cinémagic reviewer doesn't even know what 1:85 is, or what "Anamorphic" means, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.
It is highly likely that every single stereo track is actually a typical Fortune Star downmix.

The only good thing about these discs is that they aren't pinkified and they are well-encoded.
Most of them are probably superior to their HKL / Fox / IVL counterparts.

Thanks, Tom. I think I'll keep my HKL's for The Young Master and Project A 1&2 then. I was hoping the french would allow me to get rid of the IVL PS discs but I guess not.

I don't own and I haven't seen Dragon Lord. Any quick recommendation? I recall reading the HKL audio wasn't so good. JS is a downmix. Universe maybe? It's 5.1 but maybe no new sound effects. With Universe it's hit and miss...

I've got the HKL of Dragon Lord and am quite pleased with it despite the flicker, the grain and the muffled sound.

Can't remember why I didn't buy the JS afterwards but I'm sure I had a good reason ( :D ). Poor sound or something.
Can't stand Universe anymore. They don't provide the kind of transfer that I would want to watch on my brand new 116" screen.

You should buy DL. It's a good film.
A bit strange, a bit clumsy, the editing is a bit messy and Jackie's lack of talent as a director is showing. But the fights and stunts are very cool.

Or because the JS/Seven Sept are the longer Taiwanese version while the HKL is the HK version?

I have seen neither, but reportedly the HK version is better.

Anyway I forgot to introduce myself: Hi everyone. I'm a frenchman living in England. I have been reading these forums for a little while now and thought I should register, you never know I might be useful :D (although I won't post that much 'cause I haven't got the internet at home...).
Thanks for the information provided on these forums and I hope to be able to contribute whenever the occasion arises.
