King Boxer's the review I'm waiting for... it was my first Shaw Bros movie, thanks to my dad having me on a "hunt" to find the damn thing when I was about 13! Funny thing was, the old US VHS was indeed titled King Boxer and not "Five Fingers of Death" like he kept having me search for... AND it used a publicity shot from Duel of Fists at the top of the cover! Certainly didn't make things less confusing...

And to make matters more confusing, there is another film from the same year which is also called King Boxer

Forgot about that... that's the one on DVD with a generic Shaolin Monk image on it, isn't it? :D

I could be wrong, but isn't Yasuaki Kurata in that one?

Not a very good film, but worth it if you're a fan of Kurata - I'm not sure if its his HK debut.

First review for One Armed Swordsman:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRevie ... rdsman.htm

Well, sounds good... for the most part... 2.0 stereo? Hopefully someone can explain this and that it's actually 2.0 mono.

King Boxer

Post by chenlung »

Maybe EPI's source for 'King Boxer' came from your VHS as it has a new 'Five Fingers of Death' title.

Here's hoping the DD DVD ain't out of synch because of the frame hacking. Hell Celestial could well have kept working at it and were forced to release quickly to IVL.

Time to breathe some new life to this thread.

DD has updated their coming soon section.

Crime Story's new cover art looks particularly hilarious.

Great to see HB is 2 Discs but where is Cantonese Mono?

I've already got the HK Fortune Star Remaster of Crime Story so that will do for me. You can pick up all the current DD titles at CD WOW for $15.95 each, except for Seven Swords and Born to Fight which are $14.95 each -

Those prices are using the $2-8 Voucher Reduction Link + Voucher Code Reduction!

Thanks. However, the titles they sell are not "all the current DD titles". Where are "Above the Law" and "Shanghai Express". Come on CD WOW! :D

@Mark:
Too expensive? Is there anywhere that sells DD titles for cheaper or were you talking in general?

No, but I feel $15 is too expensive to upgrade on titles I already have. And there's nothing DD have released (that I want) that I don't already have.

I see. Well, I agree with you in terms of upgrading, but only as far as the quality of the current DVD you own is concerned. If the only DVD I owned of say "Police Story 2" was the HKL one, then I'd upgrade for $15.

I know what you mean... but as it happens DD's Police Story II is flawed in that they use the inferior Japanese cut of the movie. When the Shaw titles come down to under $10 (same price as the HK imports) then I'll reconsider.

I have the IVL box set of "Police Story"-trilogy, but I never managed to sit down and watch part 2 in full, so I have no clue what the longer version is like. However, I welcome to have additional JC footage as I am a JC collector. While skipping through it though, I noticed that they had the wrong music over the credits (the soundtrack from part 1 actually). How about the DD disc?

I'm the same as Mark on this issue. I hardly ever spend more then 10 bucks on a DVD. I often rather wait for the dvds to go on sale. 15-16 bucks is too much for a movie.
