Hmm skintones on Shangai Express look good, but it's looking vertically stretched going by grabs of the Rothrock - Sammo fight.

When will people understand that Chinese are supposed to have pink skintones, and Japanese red. (latter refering to Criterion DVDs) :D

The stretching isn't an issue because the FS transfers are almost always windowboxed. DD's simply use up more resolution.

I'm not following your logic, you don't use up extra vertical resolution by stretching the bleedin image!

The promo trailer for the first four Shaw Bros discs is up:

http://www.dragondynasty.com/films/show/90

The page is for King Boxer, but all four pages share the same "collection" promo. The films look good so far. Proper skin tones, and, while it's hard to tell, it looks like they might have used a proper 24fps progressive scan transfer for each film... it's about time! Also, supposedly these releases will have the original mono tracks... plus the "classic" dubs! With all of this, I think I can deal with the "RZA commentary"... I just won't listen to it :P

hey,

no use to pawn the Universe Righting Wrongs disc then as it contains the extended Mandarin language edit in full, including scenes taking place before the alternate ending.

Okay, two things: One, how is that being racist? Two, saying "stop being" racist makes it sound like I'm always dropping racist remarks. I never brought up race at all. I just said I wouldn't listen to the commentary, which, for one, was mainly a joke due to a lot of the fans on different boards kinda rolling their eyes that The Weinstein Company, once again, tried to grab someone more "mainstream" to back up their extra features and promos. Hell, I'd probably still check it out for the hell of it and would turn it off if it felt like it was going nowhere, just like any other special feature that would probably end up going nowhere.

So, what, if I made some crack about the cover art, which was most likely done by Brian White, are you going to say I'm being prejudiced towards British people next? What if I go to the "general" boards and say I didn't like a few episodes of the upcoming season 8 Seinfeld, are you going to leap in and say I'm being anti-semitic? Maybe you can REALLY twist my words and point out my positive comments on Circle of Iron with David Carradine and say "Oh, if you like Carradine, you MUST not like Bruce Lee since he replaced him in both this and Kung Fu, and therefore you must be racist towards Asians as well." I'm tired of people twisting things around for their own warped perception. This is the main reason why I originally left forums to begin with.

Fair enough, guess it goes along with being a "noob" all over again... I've just dealt with people saying random things like this out of nowhere on other message boards and being serious about it, so I guess I just couldn't quite tell this time

I liked the RZA's work on Kill Bill. I won't diss his commentaries until I've heard one

Exclusive excerpt from The RZA commentary:

RZA: "Hey, yo, bitches, this be da One-Armed Nigga' talkin 'bout da One-Armed Swordsman.... ya'll dig? This muthafucka be Jimmy. He's a bad muthfucka cos' he be a player an' he cut niggaz up and shit. If he were fo' real he'd definately be a bad muthafucka and be Wu Tang material... you get me? Now see dis' 'ho be cuttin' off a brother's arm and dat shit ain't right. You dig?"

David Chute: "What???"

For those who care, both Shanghai Express and Above The Law have real, in synch mono and not crappy downmixes.

It seems like Dragon Dynasty's mono tracks have been true mono, and none of the downmixes that have plagued other companies including HKL and Fox. Here's hoping their Shaw Brothers releases can hold up as well in terms of mono tracks!

There's no mention of mono for any of the Shaw titles but hopefully they just forgot to list them.

I thought I read somewhere that they would have mono tracks... well, the site currently has only the languages listed for the DVDs, but not what format they're in. Guess we'll just have to wait and see then.
