City On Fire

Post by jimmyscab »

doesnt seem to be much talk aboit it here.

But i recieved it this morning from CDwow

I have to say, im really disappointed with HKL these days I rememebr back in the days when HKL were like the market leader for asian movies here.

This movie looks terrible ! theres something abotu the picture that looks really off, like dull colours or something. Also i rememebr the the movie had a blue tinge, and it seems to be gone here. Maybe they tried to get rid of it and resulted in this heap of mess.

Picture is not very sharp either, and looks like artifcting occurs.

On the other hand, i think the 5.1 mix sounds quite good actually. The bass is smooth and the music sounds nice.

It feels like i only buy HKL for the bey logon commentary now !

May have to go for HK/IVL releases in future, since they are cheap and are often better transfers.

This is probably the first disc i have from HKL since the move to Contender. I know HKL arent exactly mainstream but it seems the quality of the discs have dropped. The DVD feels really floppy. Also i dont know what happeend but they had done away with the transparent amaray so i cant see chapter listings (although they are still on the cover). the clip in the middle was also broken - maybe CDwow repackaged it  Anyway thats another story. I can tell when a DVD is low quality, because when i play it on my PC, it emits a hum and rumbles. This normally happens with DVDs from Anchor Bay who use really cheap DVDs i think.

anyway rant over. :D

Aye I heard that City on Fire had a blue tinge and it seems to be missing.

Hey, could you post a couple of non-spoilered caps? Would it be possible to compare with another disc?

Cheers dude.

I talked about the problems with City on Fire in another thread. Pity you guys missed it. I'm waiting for the IVL in August.

Just want to add as well that the cover is pretty bad too. They have enlarged a lot of low res pictures resulting in pixelated pictures.

Although i dont really care abotu cover art, i thought id point it out.

I can't work out why they didn't use the HD remaster?

Having said that many HKL pre-HD transfers were still good IMO.

 Fucking hell, I really want a decent copy of this film and I gave my old HK release away for free to Hwangious.

Waiting till August for the IVL is just as bad.

There's a new version out now... released by IVL... wonder if we'll get a comparison of that sometime...
