Bollocks.

Why is it OK to slag off Brett Ratner when he plasters his name over a Jackie Chan title... but Lord Tarantino can do no fucking wrong???

I think QT is the only filmmaker who actually has his name on more titles he had nothing to do with than films he's actually made himself!

Tarentino I can understand because his name is associated with some damn fine films

Ratner I don't get because although I really like the Rush Hours films, it's not like he brought anything personal to them. He's more of a journeyman hack, a modern day Sidney J. Furie. I'm surprised the marketing guys think his name has any credibility. Isn't Samuel L Jackson supposed to be a fan? Or Wesley Snipes? Get their quotes!

Oh well, at least they're not using Ric Meyers

I'm not a fan of...name slapping (?) myself, but I can at least understand it in this case. Tarentino DID get them to get the films and picked all the titles for the label. That said, it's a shame he missed some good ones.

Yeah, he's just an innocent bystander who gets no publicity whatsoever from this. Poor Quentin.
If I recall correct: Harvey's deal for Hero was that it would be released unaltered in theaters as requeted by Quentin if Tarantino was to allow to use his name for the marketing. Otherwise the Weinsteins would do what the see best.

But it wasn't released unaltered.
I have no problem with Quentin being a fan of Asian movies :) And fair enough he will give attention to movies like Chungking Express, etc. But he never had anything to do with CKE.
Pulp Fiction was an excellent film IMO, but say on Kill Bill, its almost like a "kid in a candy shop" approach to film making - we know he loves HK movies, and he's just thrown everything he loves at the screen (and I liked Kill Bill).

I think it's just ridiculous to see Tarentino's name on movies he has shit-all to do with. Get your ugly mug (chungking express) and name off there, and just use the space to give the credit for the people who made the fucking movie.

He's a fucking parasite. And Weinstein should be shot in the face numerous times, for all the shit he has pulled...
When I go to The Louvre and slit Mona Lisa's smile off, I'll go to jail for 10 years orso... but he can damage and cut movies up all the time :(
Yeah, he 'bought the rights', but that doesnt make it right. Just because he has more money than the rest of us, he gets to destroy the movies we love? Fuck that fat fuck.

I don't get you. You act as if you are forced to buy Weinstein products. Hell, I don't own one Weinstein DVD except for "SPL/Kill Zone". Why? Because thankfully there is the option to buy most of the films they released in their original versions. If I lived in the USA and was not allowed to import original versions of the films the Weisteins have, that would be a different story. But as long as I have the option to decide...

Yi is always like that. He likes to ramble like that at any opportunity he gets, going over the same points that he's already beaten into the ground. If it's not about Weinstein, it's about CDs costing a zillion dollars so he'll always pirate music based on principle.

Another one is Out of Sight, which is a fave of his. There's no anamorphic Euro DVD, yet there's a perfectly fine anamorphic in R1 land that he refuses to buy.

Well, he has a point when he says it is wrong to alter/edit films like the Weinsteins do. But we all agree to that, don't we? So why would I want to shoot the Weinsteins in the face? They don't have an influence on my daily life. If I wasn't able to get the films I wanted due to them, then it would be a different matter.

So... can you get a legal uncut subbed version of Fist of Legend?

The movie came out in 94, yet 13 years later it still hasnt had a decent DVD release, even though it's pretty much the best martial arts movie of that whole generation. Only 1 guy to blame for that.

Although not the best in quality, I can. I have the Ritek DVD.

Who, thanks to people like Tarantino, Brian White and Bey Logan, is gonna re-release it on the DD label.

So you got very lucky, cause that's a well sought after disk, which is not even in the greatest quality, is it? It should have been widely available for everyone. Even in HONG KONG, you cant buy one of their greatest movies they're produced in the 90's. That's just wrong. That's like a RICH Chinese company buying up all the rights for Spiderman 3, and then deciding to put it in a vault somewhere. maybe only releasing a badly dubbed chinese version. I'm sure many people would be very upset about that as well, wouldnt they?

(PS: I'm just giving Spidey 3 as an example. If there was a better movie out right now which was loved by many people, I would have picked that, cause obviously Spidey hasnt been welcomed all that favourably by some.)

First of all, we'll have to wait and see what kind of release we will be getting. Maybe they're gonna pull the TYG crap, as in only offer the original cut as an 'extra' in inferiour quality on the 2nd disc.
2nd of all, obviously, it's about 6 years too late.

Ah well... better late then never.

And yeah, I rant about these things cause I truly feel it's a fucking crime. A guy like Weinstein, or ANY guy for that matter, just shouldnt fuck around with someone else work so much, cause we, the fans, are screwed because that guy is an asshole.

It's like Michael Jackson buying the rights to all the Beatles songs, then locking them away for the public for 20 years orso, cause he feels those songs could have been a bit better, and the non-english public might not 'get' it. People would be upset about that as well, wouldnt they!?

That's my opinion, but Michael Jackson can keep "The Beatles" forever. He should also buy away the rights from the radio stations that keep playing them as if they were the definition of music. :D

Well, I'm definitely looking forward to the DD disc of "Fist of Legend". Everybody is free to moan before it is even released.

Ow, I agree with you about The Beatles. I dont give a shit about them either and MJ can flush all their songs through the toilet as far as I'm concerned, but obviously I was just trying to make a point ;)

And yeah, I'm looking forward to a DD release of Fist of Legend, IF THEY GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME. However, with everything that we have experienced from these people in past, I'm still skeptical untill I've read reviews that it's a good release. (Uncut, subbed, original soundtrack, etc).

I wish I could be as optimistic as some of you guys are, but unfortunately I dont live in Lala-land ;) :P
I hope for the best, and prepare/fear for the worst.

You already had low credibility regarding your opinion on music (Seriously, A fucking Fire Inside?), but it is gone forever now. You are to music what Tom is to films.

But Michael Jackson could destroy the pre-Rubber Soul albums for all I cared. The Beatles didn't produce any worth two shits until they became hippies. It'd be criminal to deny the world a song as beautiful as Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

So far they've released 8 titles and I have yet to read one negative review from any of the major DVD review forums (except for The Running Man over at the Asian DVD Guides; that guy really hates Brian White LOL!). With exception to Police Story, all their transfers have been pretty good. The extras are satisfactory and, most importantly, they're affordable (even more so for you guys in the UK!). How much more can you ask for?

Yeah the Running Man's bashing of White gets really out of hand. He accused me of being associated with White just because I pointed out there are other people at HKL

Mind you, considering some of Running Man's alleged former identities...

I take it you haven't looked at a lot of DVD cap comparisons posted here? A number of people are upset over the transfers (not me), colour correction in particular.

It's understandable, we all have different tastes and demands. But I'll be honest, why does that matter? Just because the image is pink doesn't make a movie any better or worse than before. Should I not buy it just because its pink? That doesn't make any sense to me. On the Police Story 2 cap comparison, someone said that he was colorblind and even he could tell DD's colors were way off. How? It doesn't look much worse than the IVL! Oh well.

I find the pink quite unpleasant to be honest. That and the whited out contrast made DD's Police Story quite a chore - and don't forget some of us have upteen previous versions!

So you only earn the right to tag your name onto something if you deem the person's films as good enough... a touch subjective no?

Totally disagree. I love the early Beatles tracks. Pops songs par excellence. Although some of the 66-70 songs were class there was too much self-indulgence thrown into the druggie-hippy mix.
