Cover arts for 36th Chamber and One Armed Swordsman here:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=466542&page=6

I might get One Armed Swordsman, or is the HK DVD decent?

Those covers are a pile o' arse, with the "Quentin Tarantino Presents" part IN ADDITION to the Dragon Dynasty banner.

The artwork imagery is acceptable, shame again there's no poster art, but I'm honestly sick and bloody tired of Tarantino's name being slapped on everything Kung. I wish he would take his banana chin and fuck off.

36th Chamber: "Widely considered to be the greatest Kung Fu flick of all time" (NY Times)

Er, by whom??

And it's One Arm Swordsman not The One-Armed Swordsman.

I did, but I don't know anyone who thinks it's the finest Liu Chia Liang film let alone the finest Shaw Bros film let alone the finest ever Kung Fu movie....

Just get the Shaw Brothers HK dvd to test if you like it, you can get them for under a fiver. Better than blowing over £10 on a film you may not like.

Personally I own so many Shaw Brothers films not they have started to blend together, seriously need to sell a load as I am sure I own loads of poo films :D

But some I may upgrade if these new versions are fine, but its asking a lot that mind you.

I might get One-Armed if the audio is fine. Otherwise I'll the R2Js and / or the frenchies. I recall at least the first FR dvd was fucked.

hey,

HK dvd of One-Armed Swordsman was seemingly untampered with, Hung. It's a safe buy IMO.

No, it's not. I own it and recall having problems with it (some very irritating crickets at least)

Not bad covers. I'm very grateful they don't seem to have gone down the route of re-naming 36th Chamber as Master Killer (touch wood)

Yeah but IIRC the centre speaker has all the original sound elements with no added shite, so you just turn off the front and rear stereo speakers. Problem solved.

Or you could just unplug the appropriate speakers.

What equipment are you using Hung, just a DVDplayer and TV?

I'm grateful that DD is going with the original titles instead of shit like "Legend Of The One-Armed Master" or "Legend Of The Master Killer". Bob and Harvey seem to love the word "legend". Nice cover art too.

And stop with the Tarantino bashing. If anything, he's doing all of us Asian film enthusiasts a great service by lending his name to a label that would otherwise be ignored by the mainstream audience.

that's right

Why would I spent a fortune on sound system when I'm systemically avoiding 5.1 tracks? New films would be an exception but I don't watch much new films (and some of the ones I do watch are 2.0 anyway).

Yeah, not Tarantino's fault everybody's using his name to market movies (which can be very irritating at times). Also, I don't recall Tarantino ever doing any harm to asian movies, it's the opposite, he's been trying convince the Weinsteins to release some of the movies unaltered...

Bollocks.

Why is it OK to slag off Brett Ratner when he plasters his name over a Jackie Chan title... but Lord Tarantino can do no fucking wrong???

I think QT is the only filmmaker who actually has his name on more titles he had nothing to do with than films he's actually made himself!

Yeah, he's just an innocent bystander who gets no publicity whatsoever from this. Poor Quentin.

I never said he was doing harm I just said I was sick and tired of seeing his name slapped on all things Kung Fu. If it was someone else of equal stature I'd say the same thing. Go make your own movies.
