There is 1.6KM to a Mile so yes basically correct.

I'm not surprised. AFAIK ONLY the UK and America still uses miles of which both use it 100%. You won't see KM used or mentioned anywhere. Unlike ALL other measurements where we use both.

Oddly everyone uses centigrade except (and I've no idea why) Newspapers which still quote in Fahrenheit. This means nothing to anyone I know. It would be nice to know why they do stick to Fahrenheit when everyone else dropped it years back.

In schools we're taught only metric, hospitals only use metric but everyone (except me

) quotes their height in feet and weight in a very British Stone, which AFAIK no one else in the world has a clue even exists. Shops is metric (mostly) but market stalls it's always imperial (thankfully I don't buy from market stalls I wouldn't have a clue how much I was getting). There are 16 pounds to a stone btw. I guess the yanks dropped stone eons ago.

Road signs are always Yards and Miles, the former annoys the hell out of me. Thankfully a Yard is virtually the same as a metre so I just think in metres.

Except for Miles Imperial in the UK is very much an old persons thing. Everyone I know and everyone I've ever spoke to under 40 uses centigrade, metres and miles. This isn't surprising when like I said schools have taught only metric for donkeys years.

There is an exception in our metric law that roads will never have to move to metric. Sure Ireland only has 3 million people vs. 70 million but it can't be that hard to switch.

So all in all a fucked up mixture.

It will go nicely with my Remastered SACD. Pity Spielberg stuffed up the film, it wasn't remotely dark enough. The only really good bits were the tripods but that's a given. The imagery that accompanies the album is outstanding, pity he wasn't able to recreate that.

I was listening to one of the commentaries on the 1953 version SE yesterday.

Now the 1953 film is great. The scope and SFX are incredible for a film of that era (it's a high budget film BTW, but it did spawn a thousand low-budget B-movie clones).

EDIT:
WOW, look how great this poster is! They should've used it for the DVD cover (Warner would've done so, but alas it's a Paramount film).

That cover is excellent but lMO the film is pretty poor. It was ages ago that I saw it though.

Only the original musical has ever got it right. That is so powerful, very dark, eerie. Just sheer brilliance. It's such a shame they've never managed to get it remotely right on the big screen. Where are all the biblical references in any of the films? This was crucial to the ending of the story. There are some excellent quotes.

When I heard Morgan Freeman narrate at the start of WOTW '05 I thought oh man this should be great but he couldn't help himself and stuffed it up royally by filling it (as usual) with so much family fluff that you really didn't care about, or at least I didn't.

I'll have to listen to my SACD again now. It's out of this world.

p.s - When I was a kid me and my sister (we're twins) were absolutely shit scarred of the musical. My parents couldn't play it for 14 years because if they did we'd both go mental with fright

It is indeed an EIV release, but hey £3.33 is worth it, as long as I dont look at the actuial dvd, cover or back of the box, or esspecially the insert!

The dvd seems quality

picture wise I woudl prefer PAL thats for sure.
