General Election lurking......

Post by Markgway »

So anyone here have the balls to admit they'll be voting for the Monster Raving Loonies? No, I don't mean the Lib Dems...

Since I turned 18 I felt it was my civic duty (don't laugh) to vote. Yet come April I can't honestly bring myself to vote for any of them. I'm that disillusioned. My absence at the polls will not be down to laziness, but rather a protest at British politics.

Anyone feel the same... or are you ready to mark an 'X' on the day?

It's good to see you back Mark bringing some life back into the forum.

I voted for Lib. Dem. in the last elections and I suspect I will again. I don't agree with the Tories stance towards Europe and while I agree with Labour more than most (it seems), overall I think Blair is to friendly with Bush.

That's not to say I don't want the opposite ala the Tories. Whether we like it or not America is (currently) the most powerful country in the world and it's likely to be for the foreseeable future so totally rejecting them only hurts the UK in the long run. Finally banning hunting has put Labour up in my books though (even if it's not gone fair enough IMO).

As for UKIP well I hate everything they stand for and Kilroy where he is now is a racist idiot IMO. If UKIP ever came into power I'd be a very angry man, thankfully I can't see it happening.

The green party only seem to have one agenda (ala UKIP) which while I agree with immensely you need more than one agenda to run a party.

The Lib. Dem's to me seem the overall best all rounder but lets face it it's only down to the Torries or Labour. Who would I vote for out of those two Labour easily.

As for not voting I can see why you think this but I always think you can't moan about the state of the country if you can't even be bothered to vote. No party is perfect so do what I do and weigh them all up, the one you agree with most of all vote for.

While I see your point as a protest in reality politics is here to stay so you may as well join it.

p.s - When do they start?

I agree with you about the hunting ban - not before time IMO. Its a good thing this is done.
I dont give a toss whether the people dress up or not and still take the hounds out, just as long as animals arent killed for pleasure
If they love the hunt so much they can do drag hunting anyway. And this nonsense about their livelihood being lost annoys me, the economy did not collapse when the equally cruel "Working class" bloodsports of cockfighting and bearbating were banned, and it wont this time. :)

I agree too perhaps Blair is too ready to follow Bush but I dont think we should send our troops home from Iraq (as some say). We must see it through and IMO if we left it could be 10,000 times worse than it is, so the troops must stay :)
While not many voted in the elections they didnt go as badly as some thought (ie little bloodshed, AFAIK).
I dont like the Tories immigration stance (which seems hypocritical as Michael Howards parents were immigrants). It seems racist IMO, the same goes for UKIP.

Personally I think the Torries have a point but it's far to much of a strong one.

As for hunting it's still legal to shoot a fox in cold blood (i.e - unprovoked) so as I said it's not gone far enough. It has made me laugh though. Always those fox hunting supporters saying they'd carry on anyone.

What a load of bollocks they're now saying they'll carry on but within the law, that's quite a bit different. Hunting was banned in Scotland 3 years ago and it's not hurt the economy greatly. Besides life isn't just about money. I'd like to ask one of them (murders) if they'd object to me get allowed of gods to rip their children to shreds.

There is little different IMO. A bunch of hypocrites if you ask me.

Once again I will not be voting. Raving Lord Such is dead leaving neither sensible, realistic or entertaining election pledges on the table.

Our version of democracy is so incredibly flawed I feel its a total waste of time to vote for any of them. It doesnt matter who comes into power, not only will they fail to achieve any election pledges which actually sounded good, they will also seek to change things to show they have made an impact. If they actually maanaged to change bad things then great, but as is shown again and again when a different party gets in control of a local area, all they do is change the things that were already working 'to make them better', basically because they are the easiest things to change.

Its also all about disagreeing. Ifg the opposition comes up with a good idea they still lambast it. If the people in power come up with a bad idea, the opposition dont help them make it batter, they use it to do as much damage as possible. In the process all positive action is made pretty much impossible.

we should reform as a cooporative democracy, where every gets the say, majority rule as now but once decisions have been made its the responability of everyone within the democracy, whether they agreed or not to help make it work.... never going to happen but isthe only solution to an ever worsening problem

I disagree with most of what you've said Mordib to varying degrees but agree with you here. It always really annoys me that most politicians it seems are only capable of arguing like children.

Which is something we're taught is a bad thing when kids.

Ta much!
I think Blair is to friendly with Bush.
I'm amazed Tony still has a sense of smell what with his nose being up Georgie's arse for so long...
That's not to say I don't want the opposite ala the Tories.
I find them uninspiring. And whilst I agree on certain issues, there's a severe lack of clarity in their policies.
Finally banning hunting has put Labour up in my books though (even if it's not gone fair enough IMO).
Agreed. But it took nearly EIGHT fucking years!! And more importantly will it be properly enforced?
As for UKIP well I hate everything they stand for and Kilroy where he is now is a racist idiot IMO.
It'll NEVER happen, but I don't see them as racist. I don't really want to go into Europe further either. Not because I dislike Europe, I just don't trust their corrupt politicians. As for pulling out... I'm not for that either at present.
The Lib. Dem's to me seem the overall best all rounder but lets face it it's only down to the Torries or Labour.
Couldn't bring myself to vote for a bunch of incompetents with wooly ideas.

That's just it, I can't. I don't want to endorse any of them. Even choosing a best of worst is too difficult.

I hate the fact that each party only seems to rubbish the other, rather than saying what THEY would do different if they were/are in power. This is true of both Tory and Labour IMO.

I think the sentence speaks for itself...

Britain is too Liberal as it is... why would I vote for LIBERAL Democrats. The majority of policies they come out with are a joke and that's why only a minority take them seriously. Most people who vote LD do so to piss off Labour or stick two fingers up to the conservatives. If by some miracle they got into power can you honestly imagine them leading our country into greatness? Chuck Kennedy as Prime Minister??? The mind boggles.

It did speak for itself I was interested to read you clarify yourself.

I kind of agree with you and if I wasn't going to vote Lib. Dem. it would be Labour. There is no way I'd ever vote Tories.
