Earth Day, 2007

Post by the68monkey »

So, did anybody plant a tree today? I didn't plant trees, but did some gardening and planted about 4 dozen annuals and perennials. I have plenty of trees on my property already, my favorite being a dogwood tree that was in glorious bloom until a few days ago. :)

I heard about this on the radio today....

Rely too much on my car I'm afraid! We have a ton of trees anyhow.

This is the first I've heard of it.

I couldn't do without my car but to use that as an excuse and we "have to many trees" is saddening, were you serious? Somehow I doubt it.

I do my bit to recycle, probably not enough though. The bloody council doesn't make it easy though refusing to recycle plastic and now even cardboard too (which up until recently they did).

We all waste such an extreme amount, it's scary how much we throw away.

Well we have a ton of trees in our garden. That's what I meant. Sorry for not making myself clear.

Our city council runs a highly efficient recycling program. Just leave out a wheely bin and bags full of papers on the sidewalk fortnightly.

I wouldn't compromise my lifestyle or waste my time to just satisfy a bunch of fucking arborphiles (like Brad). The world is going to hell in a hand basket anyway, all their attempts are futile.

What a pessimist! :P Earth Day has been celebrated for over 35 years in the U.S. It's not the same as Arbor Day (where you actually plant a tree), but is intended as a day to educate yourself about ecology and feel like you can make a difference as a tiny part of a much greater whole, the Earth. Now it's celebrated in well over 100 countries on April 22. Makes me want to go grab my copy of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and have an educatal and enlightening read.

Earthday has been celebrated for 35 years in the USA, and my GAWD, just look at how that public awareness among the american people has payed off tremendously(!) :D

You bunch off hypocrites! It's like dad lecturing his kids not to watch violent cartoons, before battering his wife all through the house each night...

Oh piss off, Yi-Short! :P

Yes, the majority isn't enlightened, but don't lump ALL of us into the "ignorant masses."
