Music you've heard somewhere else

Post by tom2681 »

Sometimes, when you watch an asian film, you might hear a piece of music that you've already heard somewhere else.

Monrak Transistor:
Around the 70-minute mark, you can hear "Parting Comrades", a music piece that was used in the season 1 and season 2 finales of Farscape.

The Myth:
During the "general's last stand", the music is obviously borrowed from the Requiem for a Dream theme.

A Chinese Odyssey 2002:
The music that plays during Tony Leung's last charge comes from A Chinese Odyssey.
And the music from A Chinese Odyssey comes from Ashes of Time. :D

From Beijing with Love:
The first scene in which we see Stephen Chow features a track from Days of Being Wild.

She's on Duty (korean comedy):
The music that plays during the first two fights comes from Lord of the Dance.

Kung-Fu Hustle:
The traditional chinese music that plays when The Beast stops the bullet has already been used by Stephen Chow in Royal Tramp.

A World without Thieves:
The french song at the beginning of the movie is Edith Piaf's La Vie en Rose. It can be heard in several american films.

Great Yokai War:
When the kid is fighting Chiaki Kuriyama in the Goblin's cave, there is a cue from Bichunmoo.

What else have you noticed ? :)
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

From Beijing With Love:

The scene in the apartment (with the thunder, wind and stuff), with Anita Yuen and Ling Ling Chat sort of facing off uses one of the main themes from The Untouchables

Fist of Fury TV series (Donnie Yen)

IRRC steals liberally from Basil Poledierieus (sp?) scores
"We do not train to be merciful. Mercy is for the weak. A man confronts you, he is the enemy. The enemy deserves no mercy."

Heroes Shed No Tears -:D
Piece of music I've DEFINITELY heard somewhere from another HK movie, It might have been one of the Bruce Lee documentaries like "The Legend", I don't know. Its during the scene about 55 minutes in with the Thai-Chinese hookers.
I can't place it? :?

IIRC, some of the music from 'Bruce Lee the Legend' comes from a 1974 film called 'The Dragon Tamers'. But I doubt many here have seen it.

Is it quite common for HK films to bump music from other films?

Seems that way, or at least that's the impression one gets from listening to copious amounts of Bey Logan commentaries.

Kung Fu movies are rife with Spaghetti Western themes.

sorry to bring this topic back up but you know its mainly hk films reusing music from western films, well today on tv there was a bit of the opposite.

was watching 'Neighbours' today BBC 1 and there's a scene in which karl kennedy is packing up his office, about halfway through the episode and over the top of the scene is music playing, i though i recognised it,

its a nicholas Tse song from his album 'released' which was written by him and Wu Bai,

obviously its been re-recording in english by another bloke, but i thought is was pretty cool,

but i thought neighbours used alot in inhouse music/music by unsigned bands (they release a neighbours album yearly apperntly featuring the music from that season) any aussies confirm this?

anyway if your intrested check it out at 17:35 today

You don't want to listen to music from Neighbours.

I noticed that in the terrible 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', there is the same music as in the good 'Blade'. It's the same director... but I'm a bit confused as to why this is.

Going back to the original 'music in Asian films'...i watched 'Shaolin Drunkard' a few months ago and it had loads of Queen music from 'Flash Gordon'! Proper strange to see it a kung fu flick....

The "Heroes Shed No Tears" music is actually from "The Big Boss" (the prostitute scene), also I'm sure one of the trailers for TBB (maybe the film itself too and other HK movies) steals the famous music cue from the "Bride of Frankenstein" (1935) score.

The Heroes Shed No Tears cue appeared in the Cantonese re-issue of the Big Boss. Don't know if it was composed for it
