Poker

Post by BiscLimpkit »

You guys play? I took it up recently - it's well addictive. I'm not very good though - I've been told that I'm really easy to read. So I can't bluff or anything.

It's Texas Hold'em that I play.

No idea how to play.

I'd like to learn for the social value but am not a gambler.

Aye I'm nae a gambler either. I'd happily play for fun. It's such a good laugh.

If I do play for cash, the stakes aren't very high (usually a fiver) - but it does make the game more interesting. Makes a fun night in.

I only know chinese poker, called Big 2 (or Choh Tai Di), which is cool.
Dont know standard poker, and not really interested in it either.

I'm an OK poker player.
Won 681,23€ at poker last year (yes I'm counting every cent  ).
Play it once a week.

I'm impossible to read (drives the other players crazy  ).

+ My girlfriend helps me when necessary (she sits behind me and pretends she doesn't understand the rules).
Whenever there's a lot of cash on the table and I'm holding two pairs, she'll say:
"- Wow ! is that a Royal Flush ?!"
All the cards then drop on the table and I suddenly become very rich. :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I got poker chips for x-mas and a friend has a fold up poker table... put the two together and it is a good fun night in. Keep the stakes low, but high enough to be meaningful (you have to be afraid to lose something to play poker properly) so yeah, a fiver per head is good, and you can have good fun. Add some booze, bags of crisps and other munchies and it is a very cheap, social night! And if you win the poker it becomes a small money maker! If you have 7 other friends playing you could make £35 in winnings (minus booze and munchies costs).

I play texas hold'em now, but I only ever heard of it since World Series Poker came on TV.

Have (or had, can't remember which) a little PC game of Cho Dai Di (or however it's spelt) which was a good laugh too. I was shite at it though!

Cho Dai Di is chinese poker, where the 2 (big two) is the most important card. I loved playing it with my chinese neighbours.

Ditto.

You got links to this fold up poker table? I might be interested in getting one. How much is a poker set (inc cards & chips)?

I don't know how much the poker set I got was, but it came with the chip holder (a rotating woddentree stump type thing - is very nice) 200 chips (4 different colours, 50 of each), 2 decks of cards, small and big blind buttons and dealer button. Got it from my girlf and we'd seen it in Debenhams in their run up to x-mas sale type thing. Was a good price if I recall correctly. Think it may have been about £10-15.

Edit in: this is pretty much the set I got
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wood-Poker-Rack ... 86-8734267
although the card decks and chips I got with it are slightly different. The chip holder is the same.

That's a good price. My mate quoted me one, which was £50... but that came in a huge metal case. Could do with a card shuffler too I reckon.

I'd struggle to play poker at my flat though, due to lack of space. I don't even have a table.
