So, are all asian versions of Casino Royale the same? I know Korea can "censor" films, but what about this one? And Japan? (I'm looking to import the BRD disc once it releases, if it is indeed the "un-censored" release...)

I saw this movie in Paris, and the shot of the rope on the shoulder was in that print. When I saw the film again, two days later in England, it was missing. I've seen this movie three times since in England, so can unequivocibly confirm that this shot - and this shot only - is missing in the British version of the film. The Region 3 DVD is therefore the one to own, for completists.
The US version is drastically different - lots of cuts to the violence , in the pre-titles sequence, torture sequence, and the fantastic stairwell fight sequence.

As far as I'm aware, it DID have a fault, but newer batches don't.

BTW the R3 HK is also coded for R1 (at least my copy is), if anyone cares.

God knows why region-free DVD player proliferation has been surprisingly low in North America until recently.

Did a little digging...

Seems ONLY the UK and US releases are tampered with. So for the rest of us Europeans, Aussies and Asians that's good news

So you may not need to go so far as HK to get an uncut release... (though it may of course be cheaper!

)

For those with BluRay, atleast the Scandinavian disc is uncut and offers English subs and menus aswell as some other languages... the same disc has AUS and NL stamps on the disc face so I'm guessing it's the same disc released all over region B/2 except for the UK

(oh and it's region free... truly!)

I'm sure an HK BD will come soon enough, not long I doubt. Wait for that. Getting hold of it maybe tricky though.

Personally if I could play BD I'd get whichever region my player could handle and be happy, but then these sorts of cuts never did bother me. I'll be upgrading for sure, no contest (when? when LG release a non-fucked up combo probably).

Silly thing though... they named the regions 1 OR A, 2 OR B, 3 OR C... so some disc publishers put R1 and some put RA... :-/ (see here)

Anyhoot, the BD has uncompressed PCM audio which beats the R3 DTS anyway you look at it

And I hear Samsung is back in the Duo-player game aswell...

Actually it's not obvious Eva.

Tomb Raider HD-DVD has DD Plus and DTS, the DD Plus apparently has the edge. Many early BDs only have DD5.1. So it's definitley worth mentioning what audio an HD disc has.

Yeah I hate when some ignorant e-tailor does that. There are only 3 BD regions so they're not the same as DVDs 6 regions.

No but those that do have to much to risk by releasing a Combo and besides Samsung have always been one of the few companies that think out of the box.

Samsung are bloody good value for money though and also make great kit even if it's not the best. I'd happily own Samsung kit. I'd prefer Samsung than LG, who're the only other make who've done this. I really hope the Samsung is a reasonable price and not fucked up this time.

I want to be able to play 100% of films in ONE box!

Not if you're educated on the subject. But good point, most people buying either HD format at this point will be ignorant of this, they're Joe Average who bought the Xbox 360 addon or a PS3.

And further, many folks really thought PCM was worse than DolbyDigital or DTS... just because, "wtf pcm?"

Some of the higher quality DD/DTS tracks includes "lower quality" DD tracks aswell, to be comaptible with decoders that doesn't yet support the new modes (like DTS Master Audio).

Blu-Ray supports DD-plus aswell... so I don't know why they'd release DD-plus on HDD and only DD on BRD... unless they just didn't bother marking it as such? But perhaps all this BRD/HDD whatever discussion should be split-off from the "Casino Royale R3" thread?

Technically PCM beats them all but seeing as it DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby True-HD are all lossless it shouldn't make any difference. I'll be finding out when I get my HD Player for sure.

So did I. It makes it damn confusing as you can put DD5.1 at SD bitrates on either format.

Why they don't call it DD Plus on BD (but do HD-DVD) I've no idea.

No it wasnt sadly. Just watchced my replacement the other night, drops out all the and its not the DTS track its the normal 5.1 track. Got a replacement last week and Bugger, its going back again, not that I want it anyway as am getting the Blu Ray so just want cash back, but CDWOW are thick. The DTS track is fine, the normal DD5.1 is mucked up.
