Ruddy Hell It's Harry and Paul - 3/5
Some skits were better than others
I liked the Jose Mourinho/Ambromavich sketches ("That your son? I like him. I buy it")
and the Match of the Day interview with Jose
The Laurel and Hardy "Brokeback Mountain" sketch was hilarious
But some other sketches didn't hit the mark, the one with the couple watching Mr. Bean (?) or something, and the one where the guy goes into a shop for a coffee, is served by two cute Polish girls (the blonde was nicest) and they say presumably rude stuff/laugh at him when his back is turned (I don't know, I don't speak Polish)

hey,
I'll Call You 3.5/5
Impressive debut for the obese fella from Shaolin Soccer, Lam Tze-Chung. A look at romance but not the cute and cuddly ways of it. Rather the emotions that come with the territory in emotional unstable men and women. Brave, quirky and thoughtful stuff courtesy of Andy Lau's FOCUS: First Cuts series. Gordon Lam and Danny Chan (goalie from Shaolin Soccer) make a splendid supporting duo.
A minor but needed film for Hong Kong cinema. Needed in a sense that we need to get new directors on the playing field and need to get viewers to take a chance on this type of cinema.

hey,
oooh...was that some sort of subtle hint, Mr?
Escape from Brothel 2.5/5
Isn't tolerable as a drama but director Johnny Wang's technique doesn't lie in that but intensity in the violence-stakes. Eventually the film delivers and being one in the exploitation crowd, I say thank you and please come again.

Curse of the Golden Flower - 3.5 / 5
This is an hard film to review, do I like it, well yes, its great, visually beautiful, would love to see it in HDTV, the story is pretty good.. betrayal, but still some bits did leave me empty. Gong Li is okay in this, didn't think she was outstanding, I much preferred Prince Yan girlfriend/sister. I think I need to rewatch again to see if I should buy this on DVD. The ending fight is pretty cool, i did enjoy that, also enjoyed when Chow Yun Fat kills the youngest son, his crown comes off, and it goes slow motion, and there is a great shot of him with his long hair, that is truely an excellent shot, and featured in the UK trailer

I can't say BROTHEL is a good movie... but it at least tries to be more than a collection of sleaze (though it delivers that too). It's very sexy at times (we get lots of nudity from Pauline Chan and Rena Murakami) and violent. I don't really like exploitation... but if you do pick one this isn't too bad.

After Dark Horrorfest - Unrest 4/5
Its about a couple of med students cutting up a dead bodies, and strange going on in the hostipal. I really enjoyed this movie, errr don't understand the marketing, that this was too graphic to be shown in the cinema, it wasn't. Unless they are talking about using real bodies not fake in the movie. It is a solid movie, not very scary, little tension, acting pretty cool for a b-horror movie which i enjoy, not much blood and gore, a pleasant enough film with a nice story

Felt much the same as you, excpet I am harder on it as really it was a bit slow and Chow never became the action star I expected, he did bugger all, I was expecting him to rule assslasher13 wrote:Curse of the Golden Flower - 3.5 / 5

Shanghai Knights - 3.5/5
Saw it on TBS last night. (Being the TV version, some scenes were shortened while others were completely missing but what can you do?) In my opinion, 'Knights' is not only JC's best Hollywood flick to date but also his best film since the mid 90's. Great blend of comedy and JC's trademark prop fighting. The Gene Kelly umbrella fight was great!
