Cube : 5 / 5
Rewatched this again, and just love this movie, everything fits in. I love the traps, the whole concept and how the character development goes from everyone helping each other out, to being paranoid (similar to John Carpenter's The Thing). Excellent movie

Cube 2: HyperCube : 3 / 5
Not bad indeed, I've read review where everyone slated this movie, but I thought it was a fun movie, bit more sci-fi element which is great, the traps were rubbish in this, but the story, and the sci-fi element made up for it. It was a brave take on how the Cube prison would progress

Cube Zero : 3.75 / 5
Alot better than Hypercube, a prequel to the original. Alot more gore in here, and the story is pretty good. I love the twist at the end, and love that concept of it, and also how it could relate to the original. It's alot darker, The acting is great in this, nice b-movie style

Overall enjoyed the Cube Trilogy, would love for them to release the boxset in US which contains the special edition of Cube

Hellraiser: Deader 3 / 5
Not bad movie, okay concept where there is a cult who cannot die. It is a watchable movie, it's just a shame that Pinhead is not center stage in these movies, I did love the madness of it, but much prefer the previous sequel Hellseeker, which brought back Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) from Hellraiser 1 and 2

Not truly original or surprising, this James Yuen penned thriller is fairly intelligent and well-executed stylistically by director Jeffrey Chiang (A Gleam Of Hope).

Michael Wong is dubbed by someone else that still replicates his switch between Chinese and English!

Yet another immigrant drama but nonetheless significant. Directed by Sylvia Chang, handling both quality Taiwan performers such as Rene Liu and Tok Chung-wa but more importantly getting a fine, understated act from Daniel J. Travanti (Hill Street Blues).

The Recruit (2003 - USA): 2,5 / 5

Disappointing...

Too much deception, too many plot twists. At the end of the film, it got so twisted that I couldn't even care about the characters anymore.

But even worse than bad substance, this movie has no style. The camerawork is boring and the whole film looks grey.

I tried to find something -anything- to enjoy in this movie... and I pretty much failed.
The soundtrack was good, so were Farrell and Moynahan. That's as far as it gets, IMO.

Didn't like it. Won't buy the DVD.

In the audio commentary of "I Robot", the director said he chose actress Bridget Moynahan because he liked her in "The Recruit".
So I thought I'd check that one out.

2046: 5 outta 5. Impressive gripping stuff.

In The Mood for Love was about not being able to be with the person you love... 2046 is about moving on with your life after accepting that...

It was my first time seeing this. Like all WKW movies, I do feel the need to watch it many more times to 'get' it better. But the first time viewing already was so impressive and moving that it warrants (for me) the 5 outta 5 score.
It might not be a classic as Days of Being Wild or Ashes of Time... or maybe it will be... but it's a great great movie nontheless.

Time And Tide - 3.5/5
The story makes no sense. The plot is non-existent. The characters are cardboard thin. But the apartment building shoot-out was just too cool for me to deny this movie.

Hard To Kill - 4/5
Seagal's best movie IMO. Under Siege was good. Above The Law was better but HTK was great. Loved it!

I'd say Hard to Kill was easily his worst movie (from his classic era), but it is definitely the quintessential Seagal movie, and so abysmal it's actually quite funny.

300 is just slightly better than AvP. Both are top notch though.

Hostel - 4/5
Excellent film. Builds up a good story and likable characters before turning into horror, which makes the second half all the more effective. The beginning is hilarious without going too over the top while the second half is terrifying with some nice black humour. The cameo by the certain famous japanese director is brilliant. It makes you scratch your head at first but it's hilarious once you get the meaning.

Running Scared - 3/5
Pretty intense despite being totally ridiculous. Then again, this is a sort of fairy tale for adults so it's not as big of a problem as it would be in some other film. Weak ending and some lazy scripting still lower the rating. Paul Walker is surprisinly good in the lead role.

Transporter 2 - 3,5/5
Great dum fun with some excellent action scenes as well as one embarrasingly bad one (the fight with the blonde at the end). Statham is the man and the cgi is enjoyably bad. Only if Mission Impossible 3 was half as good.

Truck Yaro: Boukyo Ichiban-boshi – 3,5/5
Third film in the series. Less story oriented than the first two although not as wild as the fifth and the sixth part. Humour wise there’s an all time low with Sugawara fighting a steel boner while being surrounded by beautiful women (yes, Norifumi Suzuki is still in charge of directing duties). The usual opening theme performed by Sugawara himself is staring to feel like the greatest theme song ever.

Saishu heiki kanojo (live action) – 3,5/5
Poor cgi, no backstory, clumsy dialogue, some wooden acting... and none of them feel distracting. The film almost benefit from them. Who cares about quality effects when we have a high school girl turning cities into ruins and blowing up air planes in the sky. Some of the effects are pretty cool though. Especially the incredibly cute Aki Maeda who alone makes the film worth watching. The romantic teen stuff between her and Shunsuke Kubozuka is ridiculously entertaining. Soundtrack is a ace too, despite the weak theme song. It should be mentioned that I am the only person on planet earth who like this film. I don't think Tom has seen it yet.

The Passion of the Christ - 2,5/5
Pretty decent film but lacks passion (not the suffering but the other passion). Which is ironic since it's the only thing this film was supposed to deliver. I remember finding this much more impressive a few years back when I saw it in a movie theater. I guess I was wrong back then. It wasn't the TV broadcast that made the film a bit underwhelming this time.

Jack Dee: Live at the Duke of Yorks - 3/5

Quite early stand up from Dee (it's from 1992). Thought it was OK but I think I prefer his later stand ups (Live and Uncut, Live at the Apollo)
