Personally I loved it !
Much Much better than Shaolin Soccer.
I didn't really like Shaolin Soccer when it was released because I felt Stephen made a film that was too international and too simple.
But Kung-Fu Hustle proves that Stephen Chow has gone back to China for good.
+Yuen Wah's great.
+The bad guys are really bad.
+The storyline is a typical Chow-esque storyline.
+The CGI blends perfectly with the on-screen action.
+The music is great.
+Woo-Ping's choregraphy is awesome.
+The cinematography is surprisingly good.
+The characters are all interesting.
-Some gags come from his earlier films (chinese odyssey, god of cookery).
-His character arc is too similar to the "god of cookery".
-The Matrix Reloaded parody wasn't really necessary.
I really think this is his best movie to date.

Any chance of a proper QT download link?

One thing's for sure: there will be no Shaolin Soccer 2.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

What films (+ best version DVD) should I see next??
[/quote]
All Stephen Chow DVDs are pretty bad (although most of the movies are great).
My personal favorites:
-God of Cookery (possibly his funniest movie ever).
-King of Comedy (his most personal movie).
-From Beijing with love (great 007 parody).
-Chinese Odyssey (very complex 3-hour movie, but also very good).
-Out of the dark (Parody of "Léon: the professional", unavailable on dvd ATM).

OK, just watched this film. Brilliant. The violence in the beginning is very shocking in my opinion, but overall the film is great. As for Stephen Chow in a supporting role... I mean he is the lead character in my opinion, as all the other characters seem to be supporting ones, too. In fact, the only character we see frequently is the boss of the axe gang.
Great fights, great special effects and hilarious comedy. My favourite part is the assassination scene with the knifes and snakes.
It's also great to see all the Chow-film usual actors (with the exception of Ng Man-tat, though) and all the known faces in cameo appearances, like Fung Hak-on as one of the two killers with the harp.

Another good addition to Chow's film credits.
I wish there'd been a bit less CG effects and more Stephen Chow, though. I also thought it was a shame that Yuen Wah's phenomenal talents were under-used in this film.
Still, it's great to see the old master back on the big screen again.
My favorite Hong Kong screen villain? www.yuenwah.com

Kung-Fu Hustle will be released in France next month.
Why am I telling you this ?
Because them evil-french-bastards-distributors have changed the title to: CRAZY KUNG-FU !!
BTW, this is not a joke (although it sounds like one).
Why couldn't they leave the cantonese title (Kung-Fu) alone ?

Does anybody have a rope ?
I think I'm gonna go and hang myself...
