Anyone ever been to an opera?

Post by BiscLimpkit »

I saw one yesterday - Aida. Quite good actually and it's an interesting crowd (the upper crust of Aberdeen). It was all very posh - clapping before the show even started, shouting "bravo!" at the end.

But yeah - Aida. I was curious more than anything. Really easy to follow (thanks to subs) and beautiful set pieces. I only recognised one piece of music though (the one they use for the Egypt holiday ads on tv), although it's nice to know where that tune originated from.

If I were to watch an opera again, I'd probably stick to the mainstream stuff. Wouldn't mind watching Carmen actually. But I'm a much bigger fan of musicals. Got Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, 42nd Street and Fame coming up this year.

I saw Phantom of the Opera in London and Carmen in an open air stadium over here. Carmen was awesome.
