Did you actually see the clip I posted a link to? :D

What really makes me skip through the 2004 version to the action scenes is the merciless slaughtering of the village people. I know that most of us feel very hard boiled when it comes to movies, because we have watched a lot of Asian exploitation stuff (like "Visitor Q" or the "Guinea Pig"-series), but that village raid scene was very tough to watch when I saw it at the theatre.

I agree LD, those scenes were actually very hard to watch and felt like something out of "Bullet In The Head"

Those worried about weather or not Righting Wr... er... Above the Law will have deleted scenes as well or not should relax for at least a little while. They said in "Bey's Blog" that they also interviewed Melvin Wong for the DVD, but it's not posted with the specs, so I doubt these listings are 100% final.

Those discs look pretty good, specs-wise. I already have Millionaire's Express, but might buy Righting Wrongs. Depends on the transfer quality and if it will be uncut.

Now that I think about it, I think that also happened with the deleted scenes with Police Story as well, in that the first announcment didn't mention them at all. Well, fingers crossed... at least Millionaire's/Shanghai Express has its deleted scenes for once!

I'm not buying Millionaires' Express again just for the deleted scenes, but am curious to see how Righting the Law turns out.

WOW! Pretty nice artwork. Shanghai Express actually has some pretty spiffy lettering. Above The Law, to my knowledge, has never been available on DVD in the States and I myself haven't seen it so I'm anticipating that one.

Above the Law/Righting Wrongs has really only had one true DVD release, and that was the Hong Kong Universe DVD. While it had the usual non-anamorphic PAL-to-interlaced-NTSC conversion that plagued most of the Media Asia-sourced DVDs in the late 90s, it went as far as having two full cuts of the film on one flipper disc. Even with this new release, it'll be the only DVD with the full Mandarin cut.

The only other DVD releases of this film that I know of was a Japanese Mega Star DVD, which most likely just used the same transfer of the Cantonese cut as the HK disc, and a Russian DVD which had Cantonese and Russian tracks, but no English subs.

Does anyone else think that the Shanghai Express logo looks almost identical to the Shanghai Noon DVD box logo?
...and Righting Wrongs (also using the original dubbed title, Above the Law... this is going to cause confusion).
Should've stuck with Righting Wrongs. Above The Law just happens to be the title of my personal favorite Steven Seagal flick so it kinda sucks that DD will yet again use the title of a film that already exists (i.e. The Protector).

Well, to be fair, Righting Wrongs was first renamed to Above the Law when released to the UK in '86 (or possibly '87), so if anything, DD is just reusing the old dubbed title. Ironically, in the UK, due to RW being released first, when the Seagal ATL came out it had to be renamed Nico.

Spooky.

You know, I thought you were joking about that, but sure enough, the IMDb says the original script title was "Dreadnought"... slightly different spelling :P

The trailers for Righting Wrongs/Above the Law and Millionaire's/Shanghai Express are up... could the reign of "pinkification syndrome" be finally coming to a close? Well, almost... take a look:

Righting Wrongs/Above the Law trailer:
http://dragondynasty.com/films/show/88

Millionaire's/Shanghai Express trailer:
http://dragondynasty.com/films/show/87

In watching the RW/ATL trailer, pinkification still seems evident. Most notably in the shots with Peter Cunningham wearing his (originally) white jacket. However, when I watched the M/SE trailer, from what I could tell, there didn't seem to be any pinkification. Huh, maybe they're finally learning from their mistakes... then again, maybe it's just wishful thinking.

I don't think the HKL of ME was particularly pink was it?

The HKL disc of ME does not appear to have been pinkified.

I was over at DragonDynasty.com and read Bey's latest blog where he talks about going to Macau and what not. The article isn't all that interesting but he does mention something breifly that caught my attention and might be of some interest to a lot of you guys too:
"Films that feature Macao as itself include the ‘heroic bloodshed’ gangster epic Flaming Brothers, starring Chow Yun-fat, the cop actioner Tiger Cage (in which Donnie Yen’s character dies an untimely death in the enclave) and my personal favourite Macao-set flick, the Sammo Hung classic Pedicab Driver. (When will this last get a genuine US DVD release? Your guess is as good as mine… What I wouldn’t give to have it on Dragon Dynasty!)"
That last line caught my eye a bit. Maybe its nothing but hopefully it will turn into something positive. Thats all!

Yi-Long wrote:Fist of Legend conveniently scheduled for way over in December. No doubt it will be delayed into 2008, knowing Brian White...
I'm just happy.
Yi-Long wrote:Also, I fear they will pull the same crap they did with Tom Yum Goong: Release the american version on the first disc and have the uncut version as an axtra on disc 2.
So what if it does? I'm just happy we're finally going to get it uncut, subtitled, original language, uncropped. If they give us a free coaster than it will look nice on my coffee table :D
romerojpg wrote:Does that mean the widescreen versions in the UK for instance are cropped from Fulscreen?
Why?
Yi-Long wrote:Yeah, but putting the original uncut version as an extra on the 2nd disc means we're not gonna get the best version possible, as there will be a limited amount of space available for what THEY consider an 'extra', but what WE consider the only version worth watching.
It will be way better than any other version (except maybe the French DVD) I couldn't give a flying fuck about anything else.
Yi-Long wrote:Let's be honest, no one is going to wanna watch the dub and cut version on disc 1, if they could watch the original and better version that's on disc 2. So disc 1, to me, doesnt even count.
I'm sure many will or they wouldn't include it. Besides does Police Story have the cut version? Nope. They seem to only include these on New films like TYG.

I reckon it will be a 1 disc release, it's simply to old to warrant/find lots of extras.
Yi-Long wrote:Damn... I still havent seen it. Is the Uk version the best option to go for?
It's about equal with the R4 which also has some minor extras plus DTS. I went for the UK DVD as it's slightly better extras wise IMO.

Either the R4 or UK R2 are nice. Obviously it's worth waiting for the DD now though. I doubt I'll upgrade.

Has no one else noticed HOH subs on Righting Wrongs and Millionaires Express, unless I'm mistaken. That's bad :(

Is Righting Wrongs any good? It looks decent.

hey,

Righting Wrongs is thoroughly terrific and I have even grown to appreciate the lighter touches director Corey Yuen brings via his own supporting performance. Brutal vigilante movie otherwise, pretty uncompromising.
