In my opinion it is the better "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". Though at times a little awkward with the woman speaking as if she was her daughter, but overall a really good film which is quite underrated and overshadowed by the mentioned Park Chan-Wook film.

Did you like the original TMHT movie when it came out in the early 90's. I was 15 or so, and loved the cartoon and film, so even if this is bad, i'm know i am going to love it

That sad thing is TMNT has done so well in amercia and shot to the number 1 spot, I still feel like it looks hidious and cheap, I could be wrong mind you, but they ussually put the impressive stuff into the trailers.

I think TMNT suffered from a weak storyline. The fact that it's a sequel, as opposed to a remake, made it vulnerable. Shredder is a tough act to follow. Why they used baby monsters is beyond me.

The scene in the trailer where one of the Turtles lets off a loud belch told me just who the film was aimed at.

Wedding Crashers - 3.5/5
Watched it for the first time since stealing the DVD from my annoying little cousin some 13 months ago. Very funny. I laughed a lot especially when Will Ferrel showed up. Gets a little too cute at the end but its cool. I only watched the "uncorked" version so I have no idea what the new scenes are.

Scarface - 4/5
Great movie. The fastest 2 hours 50 mins of my life. The new 5.1's on the Platinum disc sound terrific. 4/5 for the movie. 5/5 for the booming new remix.

he surely knows same effect can't be achieved in the likes of Hero so they're visual art "only".

But Riding Alone... showed he still know his shit when going small.

I really enjoyed this movie despite a few instances of Rambo-ism which can add a whole lot of cheese to such an intense film. Still, an excellent film nonetheless.

Life Is A Moment Story 1.5/5

A Hong Kong sci-fi movie with the outermost groovy design, as envisioned by 1980s filmmakers. Then it's a dramatic Back To The Future clone that scores almost zero on an emotional level. That Pat Ha acts cold makes sense but the nowadays talented Alex Fong doesn't melt the icy surface one bit. Some novelty value exists here but they should've gone for the 2037 set flick of the flick, all the way.

Kaza-hana – 3/5
Somai’s last film (he died in 2001), and unfortunately not one of his best. The little story there is is too conventional coming from someone like Somai and Koizumi’s character lacks depth as well. Thankfully both leads act wonderfully and the execution is as beautiful as you’d expect from Somai. The first 30 minutes is such a great showcase of peaceful editing and great cinematography that it had me expecting a masterpiece. The rest of the film is quite is okay but suffers from predictable storyline. A serious flaw in otherwise such a delicate film.

Story of the Detective – 2,5/5
19 year old Hiroko and Yusaku Matsuda in a romantic 80’s detective story. A sure winner you might think. Unfortunately it isn’t. Hiroko’s performance, while not bad, is probably the least impressive I’ve seen from her so far and miles from her work in Tonda Couple and Sailor-fuku. Yusaku Matsuda fares pretty well as a middle aged detective who becomes Hiroko’s love interest. Still, it’s almost weird to see him playing such a serene role, just four years after his mad and wonderfully gritty performance in Toru Murakawa’s masterpiece Resurrection of Golden Wolf. But despite the critisism the actors play together well. The story kinda works but is mostly an excuse for the character drama. Hiroko’s theme song at the end is a pretty decent one. Aside the good actors there isn’t too much to set this film appart from any average suspense story.

Red To Kill – 3/5
Rapes, romance and silly humour. A typical mid 90’s Category III film in other words. Good taste is nowhere to be found when a brutal rapist killer takes a beautiful and mentally retarded woman as his prey. Director Billy Tang makes his 1994 film all the more effective with his technical talent. He knows how to use colours, music and editing effectively, and the flasback scene showing the killers past is like something that early 80’s Dario Argento would make if he was Cat III director. The is cast well chosen; the performance by the guy playing the killer could be considered a sort of landmark in insane exploitation acting, and Lily Chung’s (Daughter of Darkness) beauty and innocent looks are used to the full. Unfortunately some scenes are more disturbing than they ought to be, and while Tang shows more ambition than most genre directors he’s not quite skilled enough to pull out a film that would remain high quality throughout. His direction is more about inserting several highlights to an average film than keeping the quality very high from start to finish.

Truck Yaro: Otoko ippiki momojiro – 4/5
The sixth part the series, and every bit as good as the excellent fifth film. Shinichi Chiba is gone but Kozure ookami Tomisaburo Wakayama is here. He pretty much steals every scene he’s in, and just like Chiba, he too gets his own hilarious restaurant fight with Bunta. Other highlights include Sugawara’s bushido lessons, the hilarious opening gags and the usual action packed ending.

Truck Yaro: Bakusou Ichiban-boshi – 3/5
Second film in the series. Rather similiar to Goiken Muyou in terms of being more story oriented and drama heavy than some of later instalments in the series. Undeniably it makes the film harder to digest without subs. This being the fourth Yaro film I see the characters have thankfully become dear enough for me already for me to excited about the film even if it’s not as visuals driven as my favourite episodes. Sugawara’s classy theme song alone is enough to get me into right mood.

The one the only Ben Ng. An underrated actor, mostly evident in Julian Lee's drama The Accident where he plays a gay taxi driver
