Movies with singers/musicians acting which don't suck

Post by EvaUnit02 »

I thought that this might be an interesting thread, there are many crappy movies out there which feature people who are either primarily singers and/or musicians by trade trying their hand at acting.

The purpose of this thread is to name as many movies of this variety that don't suck.
-Cameos in feature-length films count (except ones where they do nothing but sing as themselves).
-Extended music videos films like Thriller and short films don't.
-Actor who took up a singing side-career don't count. (Eg Tony Leung Chiu Wai, The Hoff, Cpt. Kirk).

2046 (Faye Wong)
Chungking Express (Faye Wong)
Fallen Angels (Leon Lai)
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (Bob Dylan & Kris Kristofferson)
The Manchurian Candidate (Frank Sinatra)
John Carpenter's The Prince of Darkness (Alice Cooper - cameo)
Stranger Than Paradise (John Lurie)
Down By Law (Tom Waits and John Lurie)
Paris, Texas (John Lurie)
Mystery Train (Joe Strummer)
Coffee and Cigarettes (The Rza and The Gza)
Ghost Dog (Rza - cameo)
Point Break (Anthony Kiedis)
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

The bulk of these could be grouped under the "art films" banner, I've noticed.

EDIT:
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (David Bowie & Ryuichi Sakamoto)
Bamboozled (Mos Def)
Any Given Sunday (LL Cool J)
Bad Timing (Art Garfunkel)
The Man Who Fell To Earth (David Bowie)
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (Kris Kristofferson)
Fight Club (Meatloaf)
The Mighty (Meatloaf)
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (Kris Kristofferson)
Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (Sting)

Stick The Prestige in that list too, with David Bowie playing Tesla.

He has an actor first according to wikipedia, I'd count him as an actor who took up a singing side-career, ditto for a lot of HK actors.

Cameos in feature-length films count, not ones where they do nothing but sing as themselves though.

Corey Yuen's "Hero", also starring Yuen Biao.
One of my absolute favourite films!

I knew someone would come up with that, but I understood the question and I'm serious!

You can just see that she feels every word she's singing...
