Young and Dangerous

Post by jimmyscab »

I was going through my drawer and found my VCD collection I-V. I totally forgot I had these and forgot how good they are.

Does anyone own them on DVD? Whats the quality like?

Does anyone by any chance have Y&D6 Born To Be King they want to sell?

I have part 1 to 3 on DVD. Couldn't finish watching part 1, maybe because of the poor video quality or because of the facts that the burnt-in subs are white and without a black outline, so they are extremely hard to read (or rather unreadable) when you have a bright scene.

i have all 6 Y&D films, plus the prequel and portland street blues.

Y&D 1 - 3 i have on the MIA/hong kong classics label, the picture quality on each is pretty decent, but the plus point here is the subs, which are really clear. And if you shp around you can get a good deal on them too (they cost me £1.97 each from music zone)

i think the HK disc of Y&D 4 is OOP on DVD, theres a thai one, but i don't know of the quality, i only have it on VCD, and thats a MEi Ah one

the rest i have are the Universe editions, they all suffer from variable picture quality, some ghosting in parts but still watchable, decent enough subs.

Never seen 'those were the days' which i believe was an unofficial spin off
about Chicken (jordan chan)

Does any one know if theres a version available of part one with the alternative ending?

In china they changed the end so it turns out ekin cheng is an undercover cop, thus making all the sequels redundant

hey,

and then there's Once Upon A Time In Triad Society 1 & 2, efforts that basically say "fuck you" to the whole genre. Always worth mentioning them gems.

Well worth mentioning if they were available anywhere. I have part 2 on VCD and have refused to watch it yet, because I can't find part 1.

Its funny how these are OOP. I thought it was a very popular series back in the mid 90s.

Hopefully we will see a boxset in future.

Once Upon A Time In Triad Society 1 & 2?
were these the unofficial spinoffs about francis ng's character ugly kwan?
and there was the other spinoff to, 'the legendary tei fei'? about anthony wongs character

yeah a complete boxset of these films would be welcome? but with universe having
prequel to 3 & 5, 6, portland street blues, and mei ah having the rest a complete boxset may not come, so we might have to hope for just some remasters.

On a side note, i remember reading an interview (in the sadly defunct hong kong superstars mag) with andrew lau during the release of Y&D6 where he said he'd love do a Y&D film set in the future where everyone had laser guns and laser swords? :?

First one had Ugly Kwan but it was not really connected to the Y&D universe. Just movies making fun and deconstructing the genre that was kickstarted just months prior by Y&D. Part 2 is unrelated (Ng plays a different character) but in a lot of ways much better.
