Cool, DVDactive says that the R2UK GITS:SAC 2nd Gig boxset will retain the Jap DTS tracks. I hope that it is true.

Oh and Viz have licensed Death Note.

I dn't see how that works. You can't get the whole series with EN/JP 2.0, 5.1 & DTS onto 7 discs especially with extras. Simply won't fit.

Eva, does Macross get any better? Watched 8 eps so far and it seems to be the same stuff over and over.

That's subjective. There is character development, but it moves into soap opera territory. There's a very blunt social commentary, which they'll hammer you over the head with. The action remains about the same.

Yeah, probably not your kind of show. Still better than shounen fighting crap.

As I feared but I think I'll carry on watching for a bit as I fancy seeing Macross Plus after learning of Watanabe's involvement.

Have you seen the Area 88 OVA? If you haven't you possibly should, I reckon you'd like it.

Try to watch until episode 27 at least. 28 onwards pick up two years later and are quite dull.

Haven't seen it. Is the recent remake series rubbish?

I've only seen the previews of the new series, from those it actually looked very much like but I could sense faggotry beneath the surface. The OVA is rather good, the only real foible is because of it's age. Old anime tends to be a little naff.

I heard that the remake series sucked compared to the original OVA.

I like older anime. Stuff like Galaxy Express 999 is miles better than Star Wars ever was IMO; I wish I had films like that around when I was growing up instead of Disney crap.

R1 GITS:SAC Solid State Society dated:-
Manga Entertainment has stated that Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society will be released on DVD on July 3, 2007. According to Manga, reports that it would be released on Blu-ray were incorrect. (source)

I'll wait for the R2 & 4 releases, R1 will likely be interlaced.

Accurate specs of R2UK GITS:SAC 2nd Gig boxset:-
All 26 episodes are included on this set and are presented in 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with Japanese and English DD2.0 Stereo and DD5.1 Surround with optional English subtitles. There are no extras.

Still watching Ranma at a regular basis, but today the New Naruto was released on fansub, after more then a year orso of absolutely awfull fillers.

Just watched it, and I'm very happy to say it's back to being a great great show.
The first 5 minutes is incredibly intense, and after that it's all about Naruto returning to his village.
I like how the characters have aged and matured a bit.

Just a great show.

I'm a bit worried by the teaser trailer for the 4th Naruto film due in the summer, coz it's set during the Shippuden and features very brief snippets from when Naruto finally catches up with Sasuke after 2.5yrs, which would mean the anime peeps are going to have to cover around 8 months worth of manga in about 3 months! That's just crazy, and doesn't bode well for Shippuden at all coz they're gonna have to go into another year of fillers before long at that rate, but the plot gives them no room at all.

I'm just hoping the teaser trailer was more a teaser for Shippuden in general rather than just the film.

I'm still working my way through the filler eps so not seen the latest broadcast, but I must admit what I have seen from the Shippuden teaser pictures, the Anime character designs look a lot younger than Kishimoto's Manga originals. Where he has given Naruto and the fellow male nins more chiselled facial features to make them look a lot older, the anime character designs still have rather thin "cherubic" faces. Hopefull they look better in motion.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but at the beginning of this new double-episode, we see Naruto and Sakura running through hallways, and catching up with Sasuke. And then there is a small confrontation between Naruto and Sasuke. That was the intense first 5 minutes I was talking about.
After that, the show starts with naruto returning to konaha.

When I watched the show the difference in character design wasnt very clear. But then they had this small segment where the characters reveal a secret word for the viewers at home, and we could see young naruto and new naruto standing side by side, and the difference was much clearer. They do the same with Sakura in the segment 10 minutes later.

Nah this is the trailer i'm going on about: 4th Movie Teaser. I wouldn't worry about spoilers as it's really only teeny tiny portion of that teaser that's lifted from the Manga.

What you describe sounds interesting though, it doesn't play out quite like that in the Manga.

Just downloaded ther episodes, damn I can't believe they showed so much of Sasuke's return to the story! Manga fans going nuts waiting for Sasuke's appearance and speculated for months on what his character design and personality would be like and Studio Perrot have spoiled that for the Anime fans! And to reveal that Sasuke can enter Naruto's mind and gain some minor control over the Kyuubi! That was one of the big surprises in the plot this year, and the mention of Uchiha Madara (they didn;t translate this in the subs, but the way Kyuubi mentioned Madara's name he was implying that this was an Uchiha from a long time ago).

Still that aside, they really nailed it, very well directed and had a slickness that suggests to me it could be a lift from this summer's film maybe? Certainly the score seemed quite overblown for a TV ep.

Man... it was such a kick-ass opening. I really felt relief that after all those crappy fillers, we would now be getting good quality storytelling again.
I didnt mind the 'spoiler' myself, but maybe some others did.
Also, the subs on my fansub DID mention Madara's name and I got the exact same impression like you that he's supposed to be some old Uchiha clan guy.
I liked Sasuke's response? 'Is that name supposed to mean anything to me?' or something along those lines :)

Cue Eva to visit in this thread and call it a useless shonen kiddy anime :D

Yeah Sasuke's become even more nonchalant than he was before. :D

I forgot to mention that the character designs did look a lot better in the episode than from the promos, sometimes the odd frame does have a thinner faced naruto, but for the most part he looks about the right age, Sakura and Sasuke look fine.

Oh and the Sasuke confrontation has been editted down from how it should eventually play out when the anime finally gets there - all Naruto's dialogue with Kyuubi is missing, and when Sasuke dispels Kyuubi the demon gives him some "friendly" advice which might have certain implications about Naruto that Kishimoto is gonna reveal sometime later down the line (hopefully anyway).

I must admit I'm surprised Perrot didn;t bother animating the Kakashi Gaiden before Shippuden started - particularly with one of the big fan speculations across the world being whether a certain character introduced in the Gaiden is one of the members of Akatsuki. I can only hope they're intending to do a Kakashi Gaidan OVA sometime soon.

Yeah, I'm hoping for a kakashi OAV as well. Not that I'm a big fan of kakashi (a bit boring TBH), but it would be cool to learn more about his past.

Just ordered Heat Guy J from play.com. Dont know much about it, but looked up a bit of info on the series and people seem to think it's a good anime.
I think play.com messed up, cause I ordered the whole box-set (6 dvds) for only 8 pounds.

Always nice to find a bargain like that.

I watched a great anime on AZN the other night called 'Shootfighter' something. I didn't catch the whole title. It was about fighting and grappling etc. Could someone help me out?

Cool, some group is still subbing Death Note even though it's been licensed.
http://www.animanda.net/

No XDCC bots though, only torrents. That sucks. XDCC is loads faster than BT.

Anyone seen Gunbuster? I'm bit wary about blind-buying it even though Anno directed. The sequel Diebuster was pretty dire, even though Tsurumaki was at the helm.

Finished Wolf's Rain off. It's not very good, in fact I pretty much only watched fir for the ending song "Gravity" but I did like some bits.

Saw Karas tonight. It looks stunning, up there with Wonderful Days and Innocence. It does suffer from moments where th CG isn't so blended with the animation and low poly poorly textured models look obvious. But it really does make up for it elsewhere and even Innocence has this problem in the CG heavy scenes. The story and all is a bit rubbish, it's shounen stuff but it just looks so good. Shing, Eva. You two would probably love this but don't watch some crappy little rips.
