Memories Of Murder 3/5

I thought this was meant to be some sort of masterpiece given some of hte comments I've read on here and other places. I just thought it was ok. Nothing about it was that special and I found myself getting a little bored at times. Decent enough of a murder mystery type film, but not as good as I was lead to believe.

A Bittersweet Life

3/5

Decent Korean gangster-revenge thriller.

Shadowless Sword - 1/5
One of the biggest letdowns of the year. This movie basically rips off every movie from Braveheart to LOTR: Return of the King to Crouching Tiger to House of Flying Daggers, all of which are superior movies to this POS. The ending especially blows HARD!!! Thumbs waaaaaaaay down.

King Kong (2005) - 3/5
4/5 the first time but the second time didn't have the same effect. A little too long for my taste. Great FX though.

Crap acting, rather poo plot, but decent action and fighting. Lots of undercranking too.
I though it was one of the worst asian films I have ever seen, the worst film by a mile I have seen for a very long time, a film will have to be extra crap t beat that to my least favorite film of 2007.

I also liked She Shoots Straight. It was a pretty decent action film the last time I saw it like 10 years ago.

Must've been something different then as Golden Harvest didn't do "appauling action" at that time.

Rocky Balboa - 5/5
Just watched this at the theatre. What can I say? I expected it to be good, but not THAT good. Brought tears to my eyes like three times or so.

hey,

My Name Is Fame 3.5/5

Despite some predictability in the story, Lawrence Lau's comedy-drama about a struggling actor (struggling actor Lau Ching-Wan and yes, the film does reflect his current woes) is affirming, inspirational and a fairly fun insight into the world of HK cinema. Welcome back Lawrence Lau and welcome back Lau Ching-Wan. Watch out for actor and director cameos pretty much wherever you go.

hey,

A Gleam Of Hope 2/5

A Hong Kong re-thread of The Fugitive (Anthony Wong in the Ford role and Yu Rong-Guang as the cop), pace and suspense still does ok and it has an unexpected ending that might not be fully thought through but is noticeable.

Classic old school movie, I just love these hand to hard combat movies. I really enjoyed this one, and anything that has Wong Fei Hung is a watcher in my opinion. Yuen Baio is really really good in this, I liked the way he was, a scared person who wouldn't hurt a fly. It was a surprise to see Leung Kar Yan in this, I really liked him in Postman fights back and Legend of a fighter. But the only thing is that they killed off foon!!!!
Salaam Slasher :) I liked Dreadnaught too, thought it was a great movie.
Foon is the stuttering old guy right? (Played by Biao in Once Upon A Time in China ironically).

Think YOU are thinking of Buckteeth So. Leung Foon is played by Leung Kar-yan in this one:

The Desperados 1.5/5

Crude melodrama akin to Long Arm Of The Law. A movie miles ahead of this one led by a Kenny Bee pouting his way through the film. The Ocean Shores vcd contains both the HK and Mainland ending. Rare initiative by OS.

Yup as Knetan mentioned it is played by wicked actor - Leung Kar-yan in this movie . But quality film, it a shame this type of movie is not being made, concentrating on long periods of hand to hand combat :)

hey,

Dress Off For Life 2/5

Michael Chan plays a former boxer that now has an impotence problem so naturally he goes about raping and killing women. Not much effective chills but Chan is fairly in tune with his role. An unusual role for him.

Besides, how else would he find out if those films are good or not?

hey,

there are some clever people in this thread. I salute you, Hung. ;)

And it is kind of fun, especially when you find those sleeper hits tucked away on vcd.
