What does "Films sans frontieres" mean?
It literally means : Movies Without Borders.
Movies from everywhere, if you prefer.

---------------------------------------------
If you tell me what software you use and post some full caps I'll take some to match.
Okey-Dokey 8) .
Usually, this is what I do to ensure that there is no quality loss:

-First, I use a dvd-ripping software like dvd-shrink or dvd-decrypter (doesn't matter which one you use) and copy the first 20 minutes of film onto my hard-drive (no quality loss).

-Second, I open the .vob file with a special version of VirtualDub that can open Mpeg-2 files.

-Third:
In VirtualDub: Video -> Filters -> add -> Resize -> 640x360 Bicubic for my small comparisons or 1024x576 bicubic for a fair full caps comparison.
Then, move the slider at the bottom until you reach the frame that you want to capture and hit ctrl+2. The screenshot is now in your clipboard.

-Last:
Copy the screenshot in your favorite picture editing program (MS photo editor for me) and save it as a .jpg file.

Modified VirtualDub version: (download and rename to .rar)
http://img122.exs.cx/img122/7439/VIRTUAL.png

-----------------------------------------------
I find the procedure too complicated, so let's make it easier :P

Play the DVD using PowerDVD with default picture settings and no deinterlacing (weave mode). Then use the screen capture feature in PowerDVD and resize the cap to 1024x576.

Quality should be pretty much the same.

Why don't you post some high quality pics. :)
I'll try to find the matching frames on my french disc.

That's what the translator says which doesn't translate into English very well. I guess it really means "Worldwide films".

What does it have to do with the DVDs with English subs? It's mentioned in 1.6 in the front page.

It's the name of a french label who specialize in finding and distributing rare movies (not necessarily asian movies).

I don't talk about them because the quality of their dvds is quite low.

Here's a list of titles they've released (taken from cinemasie.com):
DVD A Touch of Zen
boxset Collection King Hu - Touch of Zen & Raining in the Mountain
DVD Eel, The
DVD Eight and a Half Women
DVD Eureka
DVD Raining in the Mountain
DVD Tokyo Decadence

How is there DVD of Raining in the Mountains ?
Very good anamorphic transfer...Slightly cropped on the right side...Adequate sound...Good english and french subs...Interviews of Hsu Feng...
That's what I hear in most reviews.
Is it a similar film to A Touch of Zen ?
No idea. Haven't seen it (yet). :|

Alapage.com
Cinemasie.com/fr/vente/ (very expensive)
Priceminister.com
Asia-diffusion.com

www.dvdfolies.be

I don't know which ones deliver DVDs overseas. Maybe dvdfolies.

Here are some Oldboy caps I took earlier, they were taken in PowerDVD but not resized (well the R2UK was reduced). Fine for a quick comparison as you can see from the SE / UE differences.

Thanks. :) As far as I can see my french dvd is similar to the R3K UE Disc.

Thought so, same master. So the R2UK from Tartan is the one to own I expect. French disc will be almost identical to it, perhaps the tiniest bit sharper.

Ah...
Just go to the homepage, then search for "Raining". You should find 3 titles (including RITM).

It looks like I'm teaching Bambi how to walk :D

The ones released by Wild Side Vidéo are amazing (better than the IVL ones anyway). Perfect colors, sound, and great documentaries.
But more importantly: no stupid 5.1 remixes with new music or bird sounds.
I bet they dont have English subs
Et non, mon pauvre petit anglais  .

First review for HK Vidéo's upcoming OUATIC 5 & 6 Boxset.

Judging by the caps, picture quality looks amazing. 8)

"Dr Wong en Amerique" is "Once Upon A Time in China and America" isn't it?

I've never seen it but it looks good fun, supposed to be an early version (conceot wise) of the fun JC comedy "Shanghai Noon". :)

Is the UK DVD any good? :)

Those caps look awesome 8) Pity no English subs

Yep.

Yep. Sammo stole Jackie's ideas for Who Am I and Shanghai Noon and made OUATIC 6 out of it. :|
Is the UK DVD any good?
Cropped, VHS-Quality, Burned-in subs, etc...

That's why I wanted to wait for the french dvds.

Yeah I know. One day, maybe...

I didnt know that. Who Am I came out in 1998, after OUATIC and America. So Jackie had the idea long before he made the films then?

Well Shanghai Noon was a hit (and good fun) maybe JC got the last laugh :D

Is there no better quality English subbed DVD? Those pictures look beautiful 8)

Long before. He made the mistake of telling Sammo.

No the UK R2 is the best if you want English subs I believe.
