Dragon's Den Film Festival

Post by BaronKermit »

Hey (shameless plug alert)

We at dragonsdenuk.com are staging our first ever film festival on February 24th in Birmingham, UK. We have rare screenings of old school kung fu classics and 2 UK premieres.

For more information click on this link - http://www.dragonsdenuk.com/festival/

It sounds like fun, pity I live no where near Birmingham :(

Great to see you're branching out of being just a website.

Which premiers?

Did you not look at the site, Brad?

The two UK premieres are 'Kampfansage' and 'Contour'

Congrats on arranging that.

Whoa! My favourite kung fu flick ever on the big screen. I doubt I'd book a flight to Birmingham. But the idea of watching "Invincible Armour" on the big screen is very tempting I have to tell you.

So you are showing "Kampfansage"... anybody of the Kampfansage-team coming over for the screening?

Nope, no-one from Kampfansage are coming over.
I probably couldve got Sammo Hung to attend but I couldnt find a company that was willing to sponsor the event. So, I couldnt afford it.

Is that true? Christ it'd cost that much for the Londonites to make it up here :D .

I'll definitely be attending, just gotta decide whether to go to every screening or not. Is all the DD staff going? Would be good to meet Tony in person.

Be interesting to see Mystery Of Chess Boxing since that's never had a commerical widescreen release on DVD. I hope I can make it!

Can't say any of the films would make me get out of my chair... plus I live too far away.

You know it's legal to hold events north of Middle England now. :D

Considering it's central location in England and just about every major train route to & from London running through New Street, I'd say Birmingham is the one city that has been the most criminally ignored by festival organisers and it's great to see the DDUK boys basing it here. You can go bugger off to the Edinburgh film festival next time it's on Mark! :P

Seriously though, it'd be good if any BnB members can make it to the festival, even the grumpy ones like Mark. 8)

When did anyone last see Kung Fu Movies at the Edinburgh Film Festival??

Hold an event in Glasgow or Edinburgh and I'll take the train through... make the English travel large for a change. 8)

Yeah, Birmingham is a great location cause there's a direct route via train from there to Aberystwyth

Well Kung Fu films are not a staple part of film festivals anywhere in the UK, but the Edinburgh Film Festival is usually one of the best in the UK for Asian films.

Well if you just want to watch kung fu movies, no point in leaving your living room. But if you want to watch some good movies for a change, you should go to the EIFF.

The EIFF does show the odd martial arts movie from time to time.

As long as you are willing to take the slow train (chiltern railways) its only £15 return from london to Birmingham, i have in the past made the trip quite regularly. 8)

Aye I was just being facetious. Whenever I make the trip to London I like to return to Brum via Chiltern Rail as well, they do some pretty cheap tickets if you're able to return via specific journeys during the day.

If anyone needs directions to the AMC cinema from Birmingham New St or Chiltern's Moor Street stop then let me know. I've never actually been to the cinema before, but I know where it is well enough.

Well that's good and bad news, the good news is that, well it's Drunken Master 2 on the big screen. The bad news is that you're showing it at a ridiculously late time that ensures that anyone travelling into the city centre will not be able to watch it because they'll have to shoot off around 10pm for the last train home.

I hope this event is a big success and you get a chance to host another one next year, but I think you need to give more consideration to the schedules of non-brummies if you ever hold this event again.

Well, from my perspective it went well and badly. The punters seemed to have a good time and enjoy the films. Unfortunately not nearly enough people turned up and I ended up losing a lot of money.
I don't know if i'll stage another event in future. I certainly won't stage one like this again.
