Top 5 Petitions to British Prime Minister

Post by bradavon »

Okay it's more than 5 but check out the petitions being sent to the PM via the Government's own Petition site:

1. Scrap the planned vehicle tracking and road pricing policy (628793 signatures)
2. repeal the Hunting Act 2004 (22017 signatures)
3. reduce the classified period for census data from 100 years to 70 years (15640 signatures)
4. scrap the proposed introduction of ID cards (14550 signatures)
5. Save the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford from cuts or closure (13772 signatures)

The numbers quickly go down after the top 10. It's worth checking out the full list (in order of number of votes), see if there is anything worth signing:

There is BBC article about it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6314117.stm

Will they listen though? I signed the hunting one. I don't like the cruelty of the hunt or the toffery (sp?) of it - in his Part Troll show Bill Bailey says he can't really take the moral high ground when he has a chicken burger :D

"Hunting is natural. Even foxes hunt"
- Hunting poster

Yeah + they will hunt to survive also, theyve got to eat, but they're not mounted on the back of pigs chased by shrews are they? :D :P

A: Try reading all my thread ;) (check out the BBC article)
B: Why bother voting in elections using that argument?

If you don't speak out you can't moan IMO, that's a general comment.

You're obsessed with Bill Bailey ;)

:D

It is true to say "If you don't vote, don't complain", I think many people are disillusioned with politicians.

"Petitioners know that The Hunting Act 2004: has done nothing for animal welfare; threatens livelihoods in the longer term; ignores the findings of Lord Burn's Enquiry; gives succour to animal rights extremists; is based on political expedience following the Prime Minister's unconsidered response on the television programme Question Time in 1999; is framed to persecute a large minority who support a traditional activity; does not command popular support in the country except amongst the uninformed and mal-advised."

Grim, you should really learn to read.

I've signed the "other" one now (I think)

The wording possibly confused me - 22017 "For the Ban" yet they support hunting? :? The 783 signatures are the anti hunting ones and that was the one I signed just now. I got confused by Brad's wording

EDIT: Doh again - I have NOT signed the pro hunting one. I signed the anti hunting one (twice now) through Brad's Import Forums link.

:D
