Nice. 2 Discs I wonder how they'll fill it. I'll put it in the first post.
The Aussie Madman R4 just has DD5.1 and some minor featuress. The UK Optimum Asia has DTS too and some interviews. I went for the UK for the DTS. Both obviously are anamorphic and uncropped with English subs (quality of any of that I don't know).
So to fill a second disc it must mean new extras, like SPL.

Seriously would you prefer in-sync Mono or no Pink? As you have to pick, or nothing at all of course.

Honestly I think the DD BTF dvd will mostly have "fillers" for extras. They'll probably just use interviews that they couldn't fit on their 'Protector' disc along with the miniscule extras from the Thai release. Or maybe disc 2 will consist of 2 hours of interviews (like KillZone, which I thought kinda sucked).

Why any fan...
would support a company keeping bootleggars in business, I don't know. I'm surprised Harvey and the HKL boys didn't get the cops to raid the place already.RickyTheDragonSteamboat wrote:Pre-order yours at hkflix.com.

I heard DD have the UK rights to SPL too. Of course their UK output won't be identical as many DD USA releases HKL already have.
But good to see someone is giving HKL a run for there money.
Thanks Paradoxon. I may now wait.
I don't really care as long as the product is still good and I'm not being ripped off. I'm not endorsing bootlegs just that the end product may not be that bad.Linn wrote:The problem is, you honestly don't know what's a boot and what isn't when you order from there.
Hell many HK films the original DVD is only a DVD-5 anyway and of bad quality so it's not hard to make a perfect copy.
Especially when we've no real idea if it is bootleg or not. Take the Zoke Culture Bruce Lee DVDs I reckon they probably are bootlegs but the look the same as the original DVDs so it's not as if I'm losing anything. They were cheap too.

Not to go off again,
The point is not about Hong Kong made boots, but boots that have taken over the US market. I've talked about this far too much lately, but fans are getting ripped off through this. Many of the Red Sun and Pan Media boots that HK Flix sells are starting to fall apart on fans who bought them. In some cases just after a year. It IS a rip off in two ways to fans, one is via ruining the market for legit companies wishing to buy film rights by flooding the marketplace with cheap boots. And two, by making inferior product that doesn't last. I honestly don't want to start this whole thing again, but I felt I should respond.bradavon wrote:I don't really care as long as the product is still good and I'm not being ripped off. Fair enough.
One thing if they really are bootlegs and not just shoddy DVDs then the rights wouldn't be owned by the bootleggers so still leaving legit companies to move in. Bootleggers by definition don't own the rights to anything.
Are you sure they not just dodgy companies (Red Sun and Pan Media) who release dodgy DVDs? That agreed isn't on but isn't the same as a bootleg.
A bootleg by it's nature can't take over any legit market, in other words if they're sold at respectable e-tailors too they can't be bootlegs.

I don't understand your idea of a bootleg, mine is a copy of a work made and sold by someone without license or rights to the work. To be clear, bootlegs of kung fu films are sold throughout the US in respectible, legit stores. They are rented in all the video chains, sold in the middle of malls, and show up on nearly every legit online store. I can't think of one movie e-tailor site that sells kung fu films that doesn't have bootlegs on it. They have already taken over the legit kung fu film market in the US. If I go to Best Buy right now, half of the dvds in the martial arts section are bootlegs. I can find more in Westerns, Horror, Sci-fi, etc. They're everywhere.
I wasn't meaning they own rights to anything. Say a bootlegger releases a copy of Thundering Mantis that is distributed just to Blockbuster Video. That automaticly makes it less likely that a company will go to the trouble of buying the rights to the film, and putting out a legit version because once the title is in Blockbuster's system, they don't rebuy a film unless it's a major release from a major studio, like say I, Robot: The Director's Cut With More Robots.
Now imagine that happens on a much larger scale, say the bootleg makes it into Best Buy or Wal-Mart, and all the online stores, ebay, etc. No company is going to touch it. What bootleggars often do in the US is read the forums online to see what is coming out before anything is announced, they then mass produce their boot of the film while the ink is still drying on the legit companies deal or before they've even made the deal. The legit company then has an near impossible task of getting their legit version into all the places where the bootleg company has already gone. Even if they take out the bootleggar, that doesn't make the records of the film being in the systems of major retailers disappear. The stores simply see that they sold Thundering Mantis for $9.99 six months ago and it sold ok. They're now not going to carry the legit DVD often for at least two years, let alone because finding the print, restoring it, putting together extras, etc makes them have a price point of $12.99. You're lucky if they will even let you on their online store.

By bootleg I mean illegal or put simply a copy made without copyright approval.
If it's in Best Buy then it has to be Legit and the company in question has the licence to sell, surely? I do find it hard to believe not one of these legit stores or Blockbusters for that matter don't bother to check where the DVD was sourced.
They too would be dealing with reputable suppliers.
A bootleg in the sense I mean it at least is the dodgy copies made in Asia and then shipped all over the world. Usually with DTS splattered all over the cover. The sort of DVD which you'd never seen in high street stores ever, at least not in the UK.
Something is seriously wrong if the likes of Blockbuster or Virgin Megastore openly sell illegal DVDs.
I reckon our understanding of what bootleg means is very different. I just can't believe bootlegs as I describe them are all over the States, sold in every store imaginable.
They sound more like dodgy companies selling subpar quality DVDs.

Nope...
They are and they are. Your definition and mine are exactly the same. See, the problem is stores in the US only see that the movie is cheap and the bootleg companies are offering them for pennies. Legit distribution companies sell them to the stores and bootleggars know which ones to go to that won't check if they have rights or not.bradavon wrote: I reckon our understanding of what bootleg means is very different.
