You know, people do develope and change, Mark, whether you like the direction or not.Markgway wrote:I remember Bey from way back when he started Impact.
He's changed a lot since then.
I can't picture that Bey defending the chopping up and re-scoring (and general disrespecting) of Asian Cinema like now Bey does.

I'm not sure if Bey changed. I doubt he has ever condemned the cutting of movies by western companies, and thinks more of it as a wise business-decision from those companies to target a potentially bigger audience.
I certainly dont agree with him, and I think he's an idiot for even thinking that way, but hey, that's his opinion and it brought him in the position he is in today... (sadly).
It's a shame, really... cause if he had been a real fan of asian cinema, he could have done lots of great things for both the asian movie-industry, as well as for the fans.

Indeed, especially when he does have influence.Yi-Long wrote:It's a shame, really... cause if he had been a real fan of asian cinema, he could have done lots of great things for both the asian movie-industry, as well as for the fans.
Yeah I think he says it from a business perspective, even if that perspective is flawed.

You could be right, since back then nobody cared enough to even consider butchering these movies or putting them in cinemas. The only way you would say any Chinese film in a cinema was Chinatown. Maybe all along Bey was wishing for a revolution.Yi-Long wrote:I'm not sure if Bey changed. IA Trilogy DD Box set Spec. is up:
http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ ... airs3.html
Good to see the IA2 commentary finally English subtitled but otherwise there is nothing here to beat the UK Tartan effort which has DTS for all films.
The extras are clearly ported from the HK DVDs, which is all Tartan did in the UK and Madman in Australia did too.
Nothing to see, move along . . .

I'm really looking forward to the IA Trilogy boxset. I already own the Media Asia dvds but it's nice to get subs on the commentary.
Well I just picked up The Protector and Seven Swords and the SS disc looks impressive. The movie sucks but the DVD is pretty solid. Not bad for $17. The Protector is questionable but who cares. At least they had the sense to include the long version.

Well, yeah... but I'm sure people have region-free players over there as well, dont they? So he could just order it from CD-wow or Play or whatever?EvaUnit02 wrote:My guess would be that he probably lives in North America.Yi-Long wrote:Why didnt you just get the R2 of TYG?

Actually, region free players and multisystem (NTSC & PAL playback) TVs weren't all that widely available in North America until fairly recently, from my understandings of it.Yi-Long wrote:Well, yeah... but I'm sure people have region-free players over there as well, dont they? Probably because there was just no demand in the market for it over there for several years. As you know in the early years of DVD, the R1 territory generally had the best releases.

It's only for IA2. They never recorded a commentary for IA3 and IA being the same messed up Disney DVD means still no commentary.RickyTheDragonSteamboat wrote:I'm really looking forward to the IA Trilogy boxset. I already own the Media Asia dvds but it's nice to get subs on the commentary.
To get a IA commentary you'll need to pick up the UK Tartan DVD.

Well I finally gave The Protector discs a spin and the cool thing is that the version on disc 2 is the actual Thai theatrical version with outtakes and all. Every other version (uncut or not) had plain old end credits over a black screen. Haven't finshed disc 1 yet however I am appauled to hear that most of the Thai dialogue has been looped into English! Only Tony Jaa's Thai is intact. Thai people with Chinese accents? Pretty fucking hilarious!
