My copy arrived today

. The cover is different from all the above:

I can't find a high-res image.

It comes in a slip-case and only has Mandarin this time, no Cantonese. No doubt it's Full-rate this time too.

I looked at the CDWOW site this weekend and it said it shipped Friday... but today I got a despatch email saying it was sent today... so either they're clowning around, or I'm getting 2 copies

Brad, can you check one of these days and tell us how the AV quality is? Also, is it R3 or is it region-free?

Lately I've been getting despatch e-mails late. I've not got my despatch e-mail yet.

I'll be watching it Tuesday-Wednesday so will report back. I'm too tired for a 2.5 hours foreign language film tonight (it's Monday never a good day for movies).

Just watched it-it's a vast improvement imo. the theatrical version seemed to hurtle to a conclusion,this one takes it's sweet time getting there.the film is just over 140 minutes long and is as brad says region 3. there are some grammatical errors on the subs- "challenge" becomes "callenge" for example but for the most part seem fine.The transfer is very nice but my hd-dvd thrashes it ,i can't see me going back to the theatrical so will sell on the hd-dvd .Oh and here's a tip make sure you watch through the end credits

Is the TC "that" bad? As I'd expect if I owned both to want to keep both. The TC is HD!!!

Does the DC feel long? I'm a wee bit worried at a MA film being 2.5 hours long.

The TC isn't bad but this version improves the film from one i was a little underwhelmed with to one i love. Yes it's hd but it's a far inferior version imo and i have to ask myself would i go back to it? I didn't think it was draggy at all,well maybe a little in the middle third but overall this version has a much more epic feel to it than the TC..i like the way the the DC heads towards it's conclusion rather the rushed feel of the TC.

Sam: Are there any additional fightscenes or training scenes?
Also, you say you have a HD version. Is that the R1 version or something? I'll just be watching it on a non-HD 32 inch widescreen, so it should look good enough, right?

Are there any other noteworthy changes that have been made? How does Michelle Yeoh fit in? Were they right to cut her part, or does she bring something special and interesting to the movie?

I havent seen the theatrical cut btw. Just waited for the director's cut to someday pop-up. Right now, I'm glad I did.

i don't want to say too much for people who haven't yet seen it, but i don't think it's a spolier to say Michelle Yeoh is in it for 2 minutes tops at the very beginning and she speaks all her lines in english. The thai fighter scene is incorporated into the film and jet spends a lot more time on his rehab on the plantation than he does in the TC. there's plenty of other bits added,it's worth watching the TC as well to see the differences.The transfer is fine but obviously the HD transfer is fantastic.i'm hoping this version sees a hd release one day.

I was really hoping for some kind of mini fight. She seems to have given up after Crouching Tiger

In North America, Universal released a HD-DVD of the Western cut.

Yep I have for a while but never got around to watching the HK Theatrical Cut.

The featurette is 16 minutes and bar a small scene from the film is completely in English (it has English subs too). It looks to be a western produced featurette as even Jet speaks English.

. Still he's a good actor too so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

But then he's starring in Rogue with Jason Statham. I'd put money on him doing some MA in it.

I guess it's down to how Jet defines the term 'martial art film'.

He is making action films, but no martial arts movies, where the martial arts, or rather Wu Shu is the central element of the film.

I just assumed he was abstaining from period martial arts films, but I guess we'll see how long he lasts without any martial arts films at all, coz he's deluding himself if he thinks he's a particularly charismatic star on his own acting merits (although he's not a bad actor per say). But lets face it, people watch a Jet Li film because they wanna see him kick ass, Chow Yun Fat he most certainly ain't!

I think Jet is a very very good actor. He has an amazing charisma, but also has genuine acting talent. But yeah, obviously we prefer seeing him in kung-fu flicks, as he's one of the most gifted martial artists to ever grace the screen. Maybe even THE most gifted.

Perhaps the most gifted screen martial artist ever? He's very fast and quite powerful for a tiny bloke, I'd give him that much, but the likes of Yuen Biao, Hsiao Ho, Kuo Choi in their heydey could do things Jet Li can only dream about.

I've seen The One, and no-one comes away from that looking good. It's a travesty of a movie. But Li has been in many movies where he did show good acting.

I love Yuen Biao as much as the next guy, and certainly he can perform certain things that Jet Li has never shown yet, but it's the same the other way around as well. But as far as form, precision and speed go, I have to say that Jet is pretty much the best. Acrobatics-wise, there are others who are better, and kicking-wise, again, some others are better. But overall, as a martial arts performer, I think Jet Li is pretty much the best we have at the moment.
