Between who? Shilpa and/or Germaine (sp?) and who?

I tend to just watch bits on E4 instead of the round up on C4.

Between Shilpa and Jo, Danielle + Jade.

It's not racism in the extreme form... it's difficult to define.

But it is definitely bullying and Shilpa is getting some nasty comments made against her.

There's speculation that Channel 4 and the media are trying to make Jade + Co look good, as if their bullying is justified.

I don't know...

Isn't it more case of female bitchyness?

I tell you NOTHING is a bigger turn off. Fine women are insecure but this there really any need to be so bitchy to each other?

It happens in "every" big brother (plus real life) series. The men are so much cooler, letting it all wash over them. The women can't help but try and get one over on each other. It's really sad and pathetic.

From what I can gather they're all SO jealous of Shilpa as she's more succesful than them but mainly because she's stunning. She's not been bitchy at all right?

I couldn't imagine a man being bitchy JUST because another man was better looking.

I thought Jo seemed quite nice.

Jade is manipulative and clever. Her outbursts are so scripted - no grown woman can be that retarded. I believe that her manager and publicists have totally advised her on how to behave, what to say etc.

It's the reason she appears on all those trashy magazines and the chavs of our nation are quick to praise her.

Jade even supports an anti-bullying charity - the irony!

On the subject of racism - from what I've read, some house members are now making comments against Asians in general.

It is female bitchiness and Shilpa's determination on not resorting to their level only fuels the anger more... hence now it's become bullying.

I could believe that. It's making her rich.

Really? What's been said? What's also been said against Shilpa? Okay I should probably watch it.

She should probably just have a go at them, politely of course.

It all started when Jackiey addressed Shilpa as "the Indian" and often used it in a dirogitary manner. Whilst it can be argued that this is no different from using the terms "the Brit" or "the Scot" etc, it can still harm if the sole intention is to cause deliberate offence.

Next we have the housemates mimicing Shilpa's accent. Shilpa did the same with Jade's accent but did so in a light, non-offensive manner AND in front of everyone (Shilpa's intention was to learn to talk like Jade). However those who slagged off Shilpa did so behind her back and again with the intention of causing offence.

Next we have stereotypical comments made about Indians being skinny, dodgy food, lack of hygeine etc.

As well as the persistant outbursts directed towards Shilpa.

Also it's ignorant to assume it's acceptable in Indian culture. It's fine in British culture but maybe not Indian.

Man they are all so think Shilpa isn't exactly "that" hard. You say Shil then Pa, say it 2-3 times and you've remembered it. Dumb small-minded Brits, that's what it is. The Chav culture!

I can definitely see why it would get annoying.
BiscLimpkit wrote:Shilpa's intention was to learn to talk like Jade
Now that would be funny.
BiscLimpkit wrote:Next we have stereotypical comments made about Indians being skinny, dodgy food, lack of hygeine etc.
I really can't stand small minded people who never actually visit the countries they slag off yet seem to think they know all about them. It's one of my pet peeves actually.

Anyone who isn't British is somehow immediatley inferior. If it's not the Germans, it's the French, if not them the Americans, now it's the Indians. Actually "anyone" they don't know.

Dodgy food? Indian food is only the most popular food in the county, so I here.

It all stems from the girls being jealous (+ they definitely feel intimidated) so any pathetic excuse to find a difference. I bet they'd call Germain racist names if they didn't like him. Not that anyone wouldn't he's so laid back.

I now hear the police are investigating two e-mails sent to Channel 4 with threats against some of the house mates.

Offcom have also received 14,500 complaints + another 2000 direct to Channel 4. The Offcom figure is a record high.

Even Tony Blair has commented on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6269953.stm

I cannot fucking believe this was brought up at PM Questions.

I mean, we're living in a world where British soldiers are dying halfway across the globe IN WAR, and some twat thinks this BB episode is important enough to ask a question of Tony Blair.

It's all publicity by Channel 4 to get people to watch their chav show.

If there is racism on the show the perps should be reprimanded and embarrassed by their words, but this seems to have turned into a fucking crisis. I swear it was actually on the news -- THE NATIONAL NEWS!!

I'm sorry, but this is really unimportant to anyone not on the show -- or at least it should be. And I've yet to hear any evidence of real racism, just some dumb chav tarts bullying and acting stupid. Guess what? That happens every day and there's not a national inquiry about it.

I half agree but it doesn't mean bullying should be tolerated. Which is what it really is, jealous bullying.

I can't believe even Tony B has commented on it.

I don't think they're racists but yes the comments are racist, I don't think they are. They are VERY jealous and intimidated though. The usual female bitchyness sadly. Why do women do it. It's not an uncommon trait.

As we all know Jade is DESPERATE to be famous and here comes a women who is far more attractive than she is and is sucessful, she can't cope. Jade is a bully. If Jade wasn't there the other two wouldn't do much, she's the ringmaster.

True but you know what it's been going on for so long with almost every day some terrorist bomb going off I now literally turn the channel over when Iraq is mentioned on the news.

I'm so bored of the whole subject.

I think Mark's right... the media and Channel 4 are loving this. It's totally gone way out of control.

Also after thinking about it, I don't believe that it's racism... but cultural ignorance. However, that doesn't give the excuse to bully someone AND raising questions to the PM on the subject.

I hate this show, but after seeing it as the TOP STORY in every paper and now on all the news channels!

its a joke really, pathetic to the extreme, people are dying at the hands of racists and yet a silly show gets all the suport

The scenes in India and across continents are hilarious, these people need to get lives and stop the hate mongering and crying out all the time. Racism gone mad when theres nothing to see as usual the snowball effect hits the shit fan once again and most these muppets probibly havent even seen the show.

It may be a nasty thing...

for the people in the show and their famalies!

but come on its way out of control, I had more racism in school than I have seen on this show and I didnt get the media and thousands of people nehind me

I feel for all involved in the show, as when they get out the nutters are going to threten them with death knowing these kinds of situation

isnt it a case of some racism, but more cultural ignorance? i mean jade goody's ignorant of pretty much all things so you can expect it from her to be complelty oblvious to anything remotely related to inteligence. however some of the others comments (From what i read in the paper) seem just ignorant and bitchy, more than racist.

tho i must admit i wonder the effect of these "stars" being racist, will have on the general population who idolize these people. if they see these people thinking its ok to insult others racially then its gonna have an effect on other people.

i hate this show, have never watched it, seems totally and utterly pointless...but i had to read the news on this, couldnt not really its everywhere.

Not saying that bullying should be tolerated - sorry if that's how my post came across. I hate bullies of any kind and they should be reprimanded for it - or the Indian girl (sorry, I don't know her name, not been watching) should smack them one. That I would watch. :D Yes, they're jealous of her looks, talent and class. She walks out a winner, they're still losers. Big fucking deal.

I heard about that... I always gave Indians more credit, but it seems they're content to jump on the "everybody's a racist" bandwagon too. I really hope this is a tiny minority?

It will be. TBH they don't get Big Brother over there. The protesters probably heard an exaggerated news report before starting their rage.

No matter what country you go to, you'll find nutters who like to argue for the sake of fuling further hatred. Just like you'll find people from a good background who know how to behave and respect others. India's no exception.

I watched most of tonight's Big Brother. Like a lot of other people, apparently; the ratings have shot up over the past few days. I watched the second series of the normal one, and bits of the third, but I've never seen the celebrity version before.
At first, I held the opinion that the abuse suffered by Shilpa was bitchiness etc. on the part of Jade et al, but in the diary room bit, Danielle was told by Big Brother that she was heard to say, "I wish she'd fuck off home." And that's where it moves from bitchiness to racism. Even if that kinda thing is said in the heat of the moment, it's just one of those underlying perceptions some people still have, which is a shame.

If it is indeed racism - and I've no intention of watching to find out - then surely the other house guests should say something or are they a bunch of cowards? Ultimately the producers should deal with it and threaten to evict anyone caught being racist. But regardless the whole thing has gone media crazy with protests and politicians getting involved. It was the main headline on Sky News and the report ran for 10 mins! Murders get 30 secs!

I half agree with Shen BTW, the comments made were stupid, prejudiced and hurtful, making fun of her, but yes it could be more cultural ignorance rather than real racism (if you know what I mean).
Tony Blair couldn't comment on the show because he hadnt seen it, just he said he opposed all racism (fair enough).
Stupid comments for sure about Indian food ("We don't know where her hands have been" ?!) but if somebody making a silly comment counts as racism most of the population would be arrested, we all say dumb stuff.

...............

If Danielle said "I wish she'd fuck of home" then THAT is racist (it has a racist tone definitely) and is worse than what Jo said.

She did say that, They aired it yesterday at 9 o clock and big brother even told her what do you mean by that. She was stunned when BB asked her that. I use to like Danielle before, but now gone off her

After watching Jade's rant last night there is a modicum of truth to what she says. The problem is Jade is so completely inept and inarticulate so instead of using her words to convey her opinion she resorts to lashing out in an increasingly vulgar way. This is instead of putting her point forward just makes her look like a bully.

Of which frankly she is, she wants to be in control of every situation. I do think Shilpa to put some blame the other way does look down on Jade and Co. a little bit. I get the feeling Indian society still has a class system which is by and large now gone from British society.

Don't get me wrong I'm not in the slightest condoning Jade and Co. as they're all despicable human beings.

It's no wonder Shilpa lost it a bit. It's completely out of order to call someone a liar when they're blatantly not. I saw Jade conveniently ignored Shilpa taking her comment back. Was there really any need to insult Shilpa quite so much?

Jade wouldn't have a career if it wasn't for BB. She is so desperate to be famous she'll do anything to be it.

Lloyd is no better telling Shilpa to "Go back to F'ing India". That certainly sounds racist to me, even if it wasn't meant that way. It did make me laugh to hear Lloyd say Shilpa can't speak English properly when in fact her grasp of English is better than the three of them put together.

It also shows how ignorant the three of them are. They've clearly never travelled to other countries so don't have a clue that the British way of thinking isn't universal and different cultures can do and react entirely differently.

Instead of respecting this they see it appropriate to ask/force Shilpa to conform to their way of thinking.

I can't believe none of the men have stepped in to defend Shilpa. CBB seems to have picked a host of strong minded women but not one strong minded man. If Germaine was anymore relaxed he'd melt away and Dirk seems more interested in smoking his cigar.

I'm not sure what Cleo's game is. She seems to be taking both sides, which isn't exactly easy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jade's perfume has also been withdrawn from stores:

"The Perfume Shop chain has also decided to withdraw sales of Jade's perfume from its shelves following the controversy."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6274881.stm

All three of them are going to get a massive shock when they're evicted, especially Jade. I hope someone throws an egg at her or similar when she does get out.

p.s - The Carphone Warehouse have suspended sponsorship too.
