Smokin' Aces

Post by grim_tales »

This looked good fun in an OTT sort of way :D
I saw the trailer at the cinema and it starts with cheesy romantic music - "From The Makers of 4 Weddings, Bridget Jones and Love Actually" and the music turns into the classic Ace of Spades by Motorhead, and I was like WTF :D

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475394/

Hailed by some on Imports forum as 2007's Crank (but I've not seen Crank).

A movie about hitmen... all seemingly going after 1 target...

Anyway, trailer looks .... interesting.
cast looks impressive, as does the cinematography.
Although some of the art-direction (clothing, colors) is a bit 'vibrant'...

It looks like this could be either a very very entertaining movie... or turn out to be complete and utter shite. Hard to tell , but certainly one to keep an eye on...

I checked out the trailer last night and boy it looks weird. Not at all what you expect from the director of the excellent Narc.

I don't know how to take it at all.

Good job, Brad, with bringing my old post over into this existing thread. :)

My apologies for not noticing there was already a thread on this movie.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

I've been doing so for a while now  , glad you're pleased (it's not always an easy task :D). I'd much prefer being able to merge properly but it can't be done (just splitting).

*Watches trailer*
I dunno, looks like a Hollywood version of an early Guy Ritchie movie. Seems more like one of those "wait for the DVD" type of films TBH.

I had no idea what it was even about till I saw the trailer during an ad break. Then I went "ugh."
I'll pass.

Well when you see it you can say :) but hell most these "Sub Tatrntino" films are nothing at all like his films anyway, just people who havent seen them thinking they are. Which is dumb as a bag of spanners.

Smokin' Aces 4/5... (maybe 4.5)
Guess no one else has seen this yet? Well I have. It's awesome.

It's very "Guy Ritchie" in style and stands well alongside Lock Stock and Snatch. As a result, it is far more comical than Narc but is still noticeably dark. Carnahan's one to watch out for.

I saw it and it just disapointed me, all build up and no realy pay off sadly I expected a lot more action at the end :( I liked it, but far from great like it should have been. Will get the dvd when its very cheap, no way I will pay full price :)

If they can extended the end fight by about 20 minutes then I say good, and cut out the awful acting and charecter work from Jeremy Piven
what a god awful actor he is, he ruined the film for me.
