US bombs Somalia

Post by thelostdragon »

It's funny that after the ground troops have been kicked out of Somalia by the locals in 1993, that the US is bombarding from air.

Anyway, many people have died, but they call it a success as they suspect that among the victims are two boss-like terrorists.

WTF?

Oh man, just read the news on http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6243459.stm

Very sad indeed for the people who live there getting bombed.

Heard it as well... and apparently it was during a wedding again. Looks like the yankees really hate weddings. :?

The sad thing is, most people will just hear the words' the mission was a succes, and we killed a few terrorists' , and dont even hear or care about all the innocent people who were also victim ...

Ah well... everyone by now already knows my views on america and their foreign policy...
It's just too bad that the idiots who make these decisions will never have to pay for their crimes.

WTF? Bush at it again?!

That said, I found the picture caption on that BBC report quite funny;
BBC NEWS wrote:The heavily-armed AC-130 gunship can fly at night
YAY! They've invented aircraft that can fly at night :D
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

General question LD have you ever visited America? You seem to have a big problem with it.

Its the Somalia Government who wanted this help anyway, they are the ones who seem most pleased its gone to plan so far, even with some innocent deaths.

Fact is the place is hell on earth anyway, nothing can help these kinds of places , just like Iraq they love to kill each other and blame everyone else.

not just LD, i have a problem with america, and the uk for that matter...

the biggest ones are...the governemnt are idiots and war mongers. and the majority of inhabitants are sheeple. of course, that can be said for most of the worlds populations, the USA and UK seem to take it to extremes though. not saying of course that the other countries are not to blame but, certainly we have done more damage since bliar and bush got in to power.

Bliar and Bush to be honest have done about the same as most other country runners, messed it up and done a bad job.

I cannot think of any ruler who hasnt fcked up, even the ones with good reps have made massive mess ups, but they were not covered by the media as much as Iraq is.

Somalia will be out of the news in a week anyway, as the press doesnt give a shit about them at all, if they did they would have been covereing the mass murderes over the last genaration  its the press who I say need shooting.

Yes, twice. Mostly nice people I met. In fact, Ican't remember one asshole. Only one guy who seemed to believe that Hitler was still ruling in Germany, lol! But he didn't change my view on the kindness of US citizens.
You seem to have a big problem with it.
I seem? LOL, it's no secret that I am totally against the current foreign policy and administration of the USA.

That you give the yanks an unfair time, was my point but obviously purely my point. Oh and I doubt anyone on this forum agrees but you in particular seem to have a chip on your shoulder about it.

Like I said most posts about American politics and focusing on American politics are from you. I just wondered if you were a person who bashed America but had never actually been, which you've corrected.

Well... it's kinda hard to start debates about Belgium performing war-crimes etc etc, is it? I mean, come on! Be serious, Brad. The USA is the one who is constantly in the news with yet another scandal.
I'm actually surprised there isnt a thread yet about the Saddam hanging and how it went down, or the decision of Bush to send in another 21000 young soldiers into Iraq, or the USA army today storming the IRANIAN consulate in Iraq, and taking their computers and stuff... (which is basically a declaration of war...or at least it certainly would be called that, if it was the other way round...)

LD isnt making these issues and discussion up. America, with their shitty foreign affairs policy, is responsible for people talking about them.

I have been accused in the past (by Mark and by you, I believe) of being anti-american, because I too often complained about how America was acting. But like LD, I think you have to see things less black and white. I'm most certainly anti-america when I look at their political decisions, and obviously the foreign affairs decisions are the stuff that we are most upset about, cause it's in the news every day.
But I'm 100% sure I would be even more 'anti-american' if I would be living in America, and also had to deal with the stuff that affects the normal US citizens, and having the goverment lie to it's own people, etc etc...

But like LD said, if you gothere you would find out most people would be just normal people who are basically good, and want the same stuff we all want. To live a normal live, be good citizens, etc.

But that's true for pretty much every place in the world. I just do feel that many Americans pick the wrong ways in dealing with foreign issues, and most of their sollutions, is violence. Just bomb 'our opponents'.

But hey, it's a nation that was BUILT on terrorisme and massmurder and theft. It's in their culture. And the very biased american media doesnt help much either. When, as an american, you want the truth about your countries, you wont get it from newsagencies, or papers, or the newsnetworks.... no... you have to watch comedy shows like The Daily Show, or The Colbert Report, or Bill Maher.

...or ofcourse read actual books. but the majority of americans wont read political books, and I doubt Bush-voters and republicans will pick up books that tell them hey've been so damn wrong all the time...

Anyway, America deserves any critical attention they get, as they brought it onto themselfs.

Anyone see the british family, with about 5 kids, and the youngest one doesnt even know his dad, cause dad has been in Quantanamo Bay for 5 years now, while he's still not charged with anything!?

LOL, an unfair time? Yeah, Brad, actually you're right. The bombings by US airplanes in Somalia are good. Sorry, how could I be so ignorant and give the "yanks" an unfair time.
Oh and I doubt anyone on this forum agrees but you in particular seem to have a chip on your shoulder about it.
Sorry, my English is so bad. I have a CHIP on my SHOULDER?

Like I said most posts about American politics and focusing on American politics are from you.
So what?
I just wondered if you were a person who bashed America but had never actually been, which you've corrected.
Even if I was never there before in my life, what makes me different from persons talking about how the attacked countries brought the American thunder upon themselves, although they wouldn't even be able to point at Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan/Somalia with their finger on a map?

Brad, it would be nice if you opened a thread of its own entitled something like "Why is LD bashing the USA?" instead of always taking these threads off-topic. Why are these thread always drifting into debates on priciples? I tell you why! Because usually people who have no qualified knowledge about the topic butt in with dumb comments. I swear to God, from experience on this board I can say that if I wasn't trying to steer this discussion back to the original topic, we would after few a hours/days end up talking about why Muslims do this and that and to be honest I'm fed up to explain Islam to the people on this board.

So while Brad opens a thread about why I am constantly bashing the USA could we please get back on-topic? Thanks!

Alright:

The latest news in Somalia is that the six days (!!) bombing operation was not "successful" as pointed out by the US ambassador in Kenia. US units did not manage to eliminate any leaders of al-Qaida. Together with the Ethiopian army, US Special Forces are now looking for assumed Islamists.

What? It's bad enough that so many people, most of them old people, women and children, were killed and severely injured, but what's even worse that they died for nothing. It was all in vain. Congrats on another fuck up Mr. President.

Only when I felt your vitriol was disproportionate. I know a lot of what America does politically is wrong. I've often said so myself. But in the past you've crticised America almost exclusively whilst aportioning virtually no blame to the other side. And like you say: nothing is ever that balck and white. But that WAS a good while ago now... so peace!! 8)

I've been criticising ALOT of countries, when there was a reason to do so. The USA, Israel, Britain, but most certainly Holland as well (hell, on dutch forums I bitch and moan about Holland ALOT ;) ). But yeah I've also bitched about the Taliban when they blew up those budhist statues etc, and alot of other countries when the subject was in the news and when it would come up. But obviously nobody needs me to say Saddam was a bad guy... cause we already know that... or that Bin laden should be punished, as he's a mass-murdering extremist. We can all agree already on them being 'evil' because they killed civilians.

However, usually the debate would be about the USA, or Israel, and people would claim they have a right to invade or attack etc... and I usually dont agree with that, etc...

Plus when I say I can UNDERSTAND why a suicidebomber does what he does, it's apparently the same as supporting terrorisme, etc. SO we had a lot of discussion about that kind of stuff.
Ah well... like I said: Everyone already knows how I feel about these things. I think I've pretty much always gave motivations behind my feelings as well... so how they can and will be viewed by others, is then out of my hands :)

I'm off to burn a few american flags now, and then it's off to bed for this guy...

Spiegel Online. You probably know of "Der Spiegel". It is a weekly magazine with worldwide news etc. and they are usually very relieable. So relieable that even BBC steals information from them from time to time, lol.

Thanks man. I've submitted it to the website, but not sure if they'll run it.
My german isnt great (in fact, it's downright Scheisse!), so didnt read the article myself, but I'm sure there will be an english article on it soon.
I'm curious if any of the dutch daily papers will print this news. Probably a tiny tiny article somewhere on page 5 or something...

This is an English article from DW-World (where I used to work).

The European Union and United Nations condemn US Airstrikes in Somalia:
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,214 ... 92,00.html

From the BBC website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6251077.stm

Somali raids miss terror suspects.
The US air strikes in Somalia failed to kill any of the three al-Qaeda suspects they targeted, a top US official says.

BBC News wrote:Ambassador Michael Ranneberger also strongly denied reports that a number of civilians had died in the attack.
LOL, sure not even one farmer has died in Hayo or Badmado after six days of air strikes. What are US bombs made of? Cotton wool?

And what are all these Government/army transporters doing driving back and forth from the air raid scenes to hospitals?

Thanks again. Read the article and submitted it as well. Also mentioned the same thing you mentioned, namely Ranneberger's statements that no civilians were killed...
Now we'll just have to wait a few days untill he eats those words as well...

Would the end have somehow justified the means if some Al-Qaida leaders had been captured/killed?
All that trouble and so many have died just to get 2 or 3 people maybe? :( :? That's just wrong :( I know someone might know someone who knows someone who knows Bin Laden... or something, but this sounds like carpet bombing (?) ie no one gives a shit about whether military targets have been hit or not :(
I was watching Mock The Week last week last night, (satirical show with Dara O' Briain if you don't know it) - it is a comedy. All thet Iraq carnage and so many lives lost, just to get 1 bearded guy?

I was thinking more about the aftermath of the hanging, which is what I meant with 'what went down'. I ofcourse mean the news Saddam was taunted, videotaped, etc etc... :)
