I've compared my 1:85 DivX to the 2:35 DVD.
Every shot is open matte.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Are any Official DVD releases 2.35:1? Cheers Tom for that link.

Huh? The HK, R1, R2, R4 DVDs are all 2.35:1. You really trying to ask if there are any 1.85:1 official DVDs?

Fearless was shown theatrically at 2.35 also. Who cares about a 1.85 version that reveals more than we're supposed to see?

Careful Mark, Romero will go off on one about the Channel 5 print of The Matrix where you could see someone's legs :D

I know that 2:35 is probably Ronny Yu's preferred aspect ratio, but I've always felt that Woo-Ping's choregraphies are better when viewed in 1:85.

Done.

Mark, what is the PRECISE duration of your R2UK ?

The R1 is cut, CUT, CUT !!!
They've removed the beginning, changed the ending, removed bits of dialogue in several scenes...

Have I been living under a rock or am I the first guy to notice this ?!

:o :o

*Investigating*

Expect a R1 vs R3 in-depth comparison in a new thread soon (can't use this one, too many spoilers)

Hold up so even the Unrated cut is NOT the HK cut? I thought it had the HK + USA cuts, no?

So the HK DVD is 1.85:1?

No. The unrated cut is not the HK cut.
See the other thread for proof.
So the HK DVD is 1.85:1?
No. I don't think so. The Edko is supposed to be 2:35.
There IS a 1:85 DVD somewhere. I just don't know where.

2 Questions for Mark:
How long is your R2 ?
Does it begin with Jet doing a Wushu demo in front of a CGI background ?

Nah. It's prologue text going on about "weak men of the East", the four man vs. Huo Yuanhua tournament; then we see the first 3 matches of that tournament; then the fight between Tanaka and Yuanhua is announced; then cut to title card.

*Sigh* I hope that this extended cut with Yeoh surfaces. It will probably have terrible pacing though.

Shoot it looks like it's a Western Cut not USA Cut, so:

USA Theatrical Cut (Western Cut but shorter)
Western Cut
HK Cut
Thai Cut (The longest)

Considering the HK Cut and Thai Cut don't have English subs the UK R2/R4 still look the way to go.

@ Tom: What cut is the 1.85:1 DVD? HK Cut I'm presuming.

Yes.

So the R2UK is cut just like the R1US ?
Crap.

Yup, considering that R2UK and R4 are identical discs.

At least I get to see the HK cut first. I wasn't going to buy a Fearless until I have anyway.

No, the R2 is just like Eva said.

DVD running time: 99m, 22s.
Cinema running time: 103m, 53s.

I seem to remember The Running Man saying that there's a scene in the "western cut" that's not in the HK version.

It's after Yuan Jia is caught fighting and is told to copy caligraphy as a punishment. Is this in your "Asian cut", Tom?

EDIT: Nevermind, you've answered this last point in the other thread.
