I thought that Renewal was a revelation, considering that all I had previously seen was NTSC-PAL converted garbage of ADV's rubbish 1996 VHS masters (which had been slapped onto DVD by ADV, Madman, etc).

That took me a while getting into it, because i had the original anime film, which I loved in my head, and this was completely different. It is okay, quite enjoyable, the only thing I don't like, it that the fights only seem to have looping animation, and that put me off on some episdoes. But I did like the training with Dhalsim, where Ryu and Ken are fighting

That's where I am just now.

So far, it's pretty whack in comparison to the film... the storyline does not really tie in with the games (the film was pretty accurate).

Yup try to get that out of your mind, getting the series relating to the film or the game, another reason why at 1st this didn't gel with me. If you can just watch it on it own, you may like it.. (may being the operative word ;) ).

Im still sitting on the fence for this

A little late for the news, but if you haven't already heard Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles (A.K.A Naruto Part 2) will be airing in TV Tokyo on February 15th, 2007.

This news has been confirmed by Kishimoto and the Shonen magazines, and will successfully be the end of the year and a half fillers.

About 9 or 8 more episodes will occur, so bare with us and get through these last few weeks!
Naruto Hurricane Chronicles is the continuation of the original animated TV series Naruto. The story revolves around an older and slightly more matured Uzumaki Naruto and his quest to save his friend Uchiha Sasuke from the grips of the snake-like Shinobi, Orochimaru. After 2 and a half years Naruto finally returns to his village of Konoha, and sets about putting his ambitions to work, though it will not be easy, as He has amassed a few (more dangerous) enemies, in the likes of the shinobi

The Toriyama World releases looks better on a TV, but Live-Evil put more effort into their releases.

Toriyama will drop Death Note like a red hot pancake once it gets licensed in the US, so it might be best for people to not get too attached to their rips & translations. :D

Superb series, ain't it? "Mother's Day" is particularly excellent.

Be sure to watch it a 2nd time, you'll catch things that you missed the first time. Also watch the (shit) film Boogiepop & Others (a very faithful adaptation of the original novel - Phantom is expansion of a the novel's universe, not an adaptation) as it'll fill in the back-story of the Manticore/Echoes incident that takes place a month before the anime series occurs.

I put it down for now. Having watch Para and Lain recently I wasn't really feeling it.

I watched the first 6 eps of Gasaraki today. In two minds about whether I should continue, apparently there's a nice human story in there. But it has so much stereotypical nonsense and if such a thing exists I wonder how long it'll take to be realised.

Word of warning:- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an AWFUL AWFUL show. Completely devoid of any plot at all or actual character development and is just a series of strung along gags and post-modern references.

I don't why there's so much hype on the internet, the majority of anime viewing communities probably just suffer from mass severe mental retardation - probably the same condition that caused unfunny childish dirge like Azumanga and School Rumble to be popular.

I loved Azumanga. Die! Didn't plan on seeing School Rumble as it looked like a pathetic copy and I'd already assumed Haruhi was awful.

I'll warn anyone away from Gasaraki and Otogizoushi. Otogizoushi is like Kaidoumaru the series, NOT a good IG work. Gasaraki is just the usual kids in robots, secret organisations and supernaturalities. Also Battle Angel Alita is crap, but I'm still holding out hope that one day I'll find some really cool cyberpunky type thing amidst the trash. Yeah, right.
Cat Soup may interest festival animation fans. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu was hilarious the first time I saw it, second time, not so much.
Perfect Blue is still incredible.

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross - 4/5
A terrific space opera where the characters and their development is just as paramount as the action. A thoroughly well-written story that is rarely seen in anime these days.

Melodramatic at times, but no worse than Battlestar Galactica 2003 I'd say.

The frequent (and terrible) J-pop songs are grating on many occasions and the theme of using pop music as a weapon is frankly absurd.

Animation is rubbish, but that's the fault of low budgets and tight schedules that were common in that era.

Macross: Do You Remember Love? - 3/5
Film adaptation of the series. Terrific animation (that shits all over the original show) and battle scenes, but 2 hours hardly can even scratch the surface that is covered in the 34 episode series. The J-pop is even more annoying here than in the series.

HAHAHAHA. To paraphase you "some people on this forum have the most bizarre tastes."
Otogizoushi is like Kaidoumaru the series, NOT a good IG work.
Add Blood+ to that list. They took the badass OVA The Last Vampire and turned it into a shounen series for 16-year-old girls who love shit-loads of melodrama, by adding the major themes of family and making the archetype angsty teen male lead into a female.

That upcoming Romeo and Juliet steam-punk series looks dreadful.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu was hilarious the first time I saw it, second time, not so much.
Perfect Blue is still incredible.
So it's basically just the "fish-out-of-water" comedy shit from the original series taken to the nth degree? That stuff was fucking lame and unfunny. "HAHAHA, Sousuke doesn't know how to behave in an everyday environment and his superior officer is a 16 year old girl who commands a battleship!" The blue-haired chick is the type of bitch I'd throw down a flight of stairs in a heartbeat.

What's this Romeo and Juliet series? I know Gonzo are doing a 'traditional' one next year.

Near spot-on with Fumoffu.

Fumoffu was put into production because they felt the original series didn't include enough of th ecomedy that was in the books. Apparently The Second Raid is more like the usual FMP style. Not seen it yet though.

Oh and I think Azumanga Dai Oh! is fantastic as well.

Sorry, it is indeed Gonzo, I have no idea where I got the "steam punk" impression from. :o

Regardless, it looks like crap. Seriously, why can't GONZO ever find decent writers?

They lack decent staff in all departments.

I really wanted to see Last Exile (I've had the unopened R1 set so long I'd forgotten about it) and Samurai 7 but since I noticed Gonzo in the credits...

Wow... thats a very good price.
I normally dont buy anime unless it's movies, but for 30 pounds I'm kinda tempted.
How is the series? I've seen the first 4-5 episodes of the 1st season, and they were kinda hit and miss... with some eps being just boring, while others very entertaining (like the runaway robot shooting the town up)

edit: I've gone old-skool btw... watching Ranma. Nice and funny show, and its about martial arts and such, so it's just entertaining :)
