I wonder who the next Bond will be? Rumors floating about everywhere in the papers (Sun et al) said Daniel Craig would do it, but now I read (Teletext Big Screen) that his agent has denied it.
There is even a rumor (notice I said rumor so don't start Romero ) that Pierce Brosnan will return as Bond after all for Casino Royale. Dark Horizons.com quotes a source by Sony saying Brosnan will come back because an unkniwn actor is too risky for them, or something like that.
I'd be interested to see what Martin Campbell (Goldeneye) does with the film. Goldeneye was a solid Bond outing indeed, the only Casino Royale film we've seen is an unfunny spoof starring wrinkly David Niven.
I agree - hope it is Brosnan He has been very good as Bond in the films he has been in, I can't see any of the other actors doing it well. Clive Owen? Daniel Craig? Pff. Craig has only been in mockney gangster films (Layer Cake) and TV drama hasn't he?
Since Romero isn't here I'll write his reply for him:
HAHAHA fools, this is obviously made up dont believe everything you read, rumors are killing the Internet.
LOL that's funny Grim but to be truly like Romero it needs to be full of spelling mistakes and make barely any sense
As for Craig to be fair what had Bronson done before 007 of any real worth? Nothing!
Brosnan has said he won't be back, unless things have chased. So they're finally going to do a proper job of Casino Royale, excellent. This is for sure?
I agree it should be Brosnan but tbh I don't really mind as long as the story is decent this time. Oh and they find a decent director who doesn't piss all over the original concept for the film (i.e - a spy thriller not a dumb ass action flick).

That would have me in tears too. 1) He is too young looking 2) in the big roles he has done (even LOTR) and PoTC and Troy his performance is adequate but forgettable. And in those roles he wasn't the main lead but a supporting player (OK still important) to the story.
3) You can't have a teenybopper/teen idol actor playing Bond. Though he did at least look the part of Legolas in LOTR and Paris in Troy.
An even better question would be: Who the fuck even cares anymore!? Apart from the very tiresome saga about who the next Bond will be, which has been going on for well over 3 years orso now... who really cares about the movies anymore!? Just dumb villains getting chased by a Ken Barbie doll pretending to be a suave international super secretagent guy in 3 piece suit, in a movie filled with stunts every 3 minutes to cover up the complete lack of a plot.
Fuck it.

You can't judge the whole franchise on one film! It wasn't awful (1st half was excellent) but the last act was daft, with the worst sci-fi plot since Moonraker, a stupid villain and the naff invisible car
I thought 90% of DAD was awful. I guess you have a point though but no one said the whole franchise was awful just recently. TWINE came out 6 years ago so technically saying recently is accurate 8)

Agreed, but as Grim says that's just ONE film out of 20!! Every series is allowed blips and disappointments and on average the 007 franchise has more good films than bad. And Brosnan's first three were top notch action thrillers.
Dont get me wrong: I don't hate BOND, I just hated the last bunch of movies. I still can't stand Brosnan (I prefer Connory and Dalton) and I feel the movies have just totally left the ínternational spy genre and instead turned into blockbuster stunts/explosion crap.
I always feel Bond should be a good intelligent international spy movie first, and action-movie second, and only to support the story.
I dont mind action ofcourse, but it should make sense and shouldnt be too over the top. A good car-chasing scene doesnt need CGI and invisible cars and hot women and big-ass explosions to be exciting.
I also find Brosnan painfully unconvincing as a tough, cool and smart spy. He comes across more like a model with a 3 piece suit fetish.

i dont care who the next bond is. i do quite like bond movies though (connery especially ), and with the exception of DAD ive liked the more reasent ones quite a lot.
but your right Yi-Long, they should head down the smart and clever route rather than the ludicrous cgi action route, a bond movie with a clever involving plot, would be awesome!!
I hear what you're saying Yi about there being too many explosive action sequences rather than a good thriller plot... that's one of things that did DAD in for me... Goldeneye, ect walked a fine line that worked out well, but the last one went into overdrive and overkill. A back to basis approach, akin to the early Connery era, would be a nice change. I disagree about Brosnan. Their aren't many who can carry of the role - a lethal playboy spy - but he manages it to a tee. I really hope he comes back for at least one more.
Brosnan did Remington Steel on TV (so well that EON wanted Brosnan back in the 80's - but the TV company wouldn't release him from his contract...) and before "Bond" he did great in The Fourth Protocol, The Heist, Death Train, Night Watch, Mrs. Doubtfire... so I wouldn't say Bond "made" Brosnan.
As for Orlando Bloom rumour has it that he's to play "The Young James Bond"... source seems to be "FemaleFirst" quoting Sunday Telegraph (?) ...
A source at Hollywood studios Miramax, who are making the film, revealed: "The story that Orlando will play Bond is true but we are doing a rather novel film about the young James Bond. "The author, Ian Fleming, never really got into this period of his character 's life, but he did mention in 'You Only Live Twice' that Bond attended Fettes College, having been expelled from Eton. Charlie Higson, who is writing the screenplay, has woven a wonderful tale around this." Miramax believe Orlando - who was recently tipped to take over from Pierce Brosnan in the regular Bond films - will be perfect for the role. The source told Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper: "Orlando's got the sort of face that makes him look believable for that whole period in Bond's life." The movie is also set to show Bond's notorious womanising started at a young age. The insider added: "There will be a lot of that sort of thing."
I think Bloom is one of the worst young actors working today (not counting singers turned to acting etc...cause those arent really REAL actors). I already thought he was awfull in LOTR, he almost brought Pirates of the Caribean down with his extremely boring character and performance, and his part in Troy really wasnt all that good either... (Eric Bana was great in that one, though)
The trailer for that new movie he's in looks really REALLY good though... so hopefully he doesnt screw that one up.
He isnt a natural talent like Jude Law or Depp is, but he's still young and when he stopsbeing typecasted he has a chance to improve I guess, so I'm not totally writing him off as an actor... but thusfar he hasnt really impressed me.
I'm not sure if I'm interetsed in seeing Bond as a kid. it could potentially ruin that whole Bond mystique if you see he was just some pimpled skinny wise-ass , Saved by The bell style...

grim_tales wrote:I dont think he was awful in LOTR, but he certainly wasn't memorable (IMO). Elijah Wood is younger and was superb as Frodo in all 3 films.
Well... he had a bunch of awfull scenes in (I think) Two Towers, where they were riding horses all the time, then they'd stopand the camera would do a rotating pan-zoom on his focussed frown, while we waited for brilliant dialogue like :'the trees... the trees.... they're farting in the wind... trouble is coming'...... or WHAT-EVER! (really dont know the dialogue -really!?- but it was very VERY lame and pretentious...)
I read on Ceefax (I think), that the film's scriptwriter is supposed to have said to a US movie magazine "We're trying to re-invent Bond. He's 28 - no Q, no gadgets".
Then it won't be BOND will it? If Orlando Bloom gets the part I think I'm going to cry
