Well duh Brad, if you had done it in a recent review you would have recieved a black book for it and would now be banned! I think the last time you did this was around the 29th sept as that is the last post on the DVDtimes staff forum about you making posts telling people to buy elsewhere. Dave quickly deleted your comments. This was only 3 months ago.

So the ball's in your court now Brad. As per my original request, please post an example of another review site where their DVDs are supplied by a known affiliate and right there in the talkback thread is someone going "you can buy the title here for cheaper instead" and the site not giving 2 figs about this.

Obviously that's nae gonna happen. Times may not seem to mind but I know that sponsored reviews are frowned upon on some sites for the reasons you just mentioned. It's less problematic to simply source discs from distributors as opposed to retailers.

Exactly THREE months ago, talk about petty.

And to be fair it's easy to forget DVD Times/Forums are different in this respect. Very few other sites care.

Well if you put it that way of course I can't (which incidentally I thought your point was directed at Lourdes) but I can name you sites who don't get their knickers in a twist when someone does it.

Which comes back to Lourdes point that DVD Times/Forums are a business and they think about the cash rolling in before anything else. Colin does have a grudge against me and other members. I can't say anything without my head being bitten off.

To name two, who both have/had comments pages:

DVD Debate - Now defunct but Chris never minded
DVD Active

Of course if you post it in every comment that's different but to put it in context I've posted almost 3000 comments at DVD Times and a maximum of about half a dozen were comments such as you cite.

6 comments, that's such an offence.

I have only one. It resulted in being banned for a week. I posted a link to Dramatica article (see the thread on Stephen Frears' "The Queen"). Fully justified though.

I have no problem with the strict rules of TheDVDF/DVDtimes. TheDVDF Classic Movies section is awesome and is populated by several cool and learned people like Mike Sutton and John Hodson who are extremely helpful. The people in "Modern Movies" forum can be quite retarded at times though.

I've found DVDtimes reviews to be a very good resource on many an occasion (eg I probably would've bought Mangle UK's shit GITS:SAC season 1 discs if Kev hadn't had done his reviews), they're very thorough IMO. DaveF often gets the check discs donkey years before they're released and provides gleams of valuable information in the Talkback section when asked (a good example is the recent R2UK Kagemusha SE released on Fox's supposed Criterion-like label. DaveF confirmed that it was the International cut with the same old shit grainy ass print from the old barebones release.). Mike Sutton's reviews (and his film taste) are uniformly excellent too.

That is an outright lie, what the fuck do you know about how DVDtimes is run? It is NOT run as a business, the site doesn't generate anywhere near enough profit for that.

Also, if you think DVDtimes is such a cynical machine, please do us all a favour and stop posting there, then we won't have to be subjected to your whiny bitching every time you get a black mark and Colin hurts your feelings. I assure you, you will not be missed!

Over the years you've managed to make 3000 posts and only been banned once and recieved 2 black marks - Yeah the rules for DVDtimes are really fucking petty and easily get you banned don't they? Colin is really out to get you isn't he.

Actually, it's much less problematic to go with etailers these days. The big studios are getting worse and worse for providing reviewable DVDs. I also find your criticism of DVDtimes review sponsers scheme hypocritical when you admit that you only visit DVDtimes to read the r2j DVDs I usually cover - which wouldn't be possible without such a scheme!

Honestly I can't believe the gall of certain members of these forums who are trying to suggest DVDtimes is a fucking business, it needs to get a whole lot more popular before anything like that could happen!

We'll agree to disagree for now Shingster. I've said my piece, you've said yours. I don't entirely agree with you, you don't me.

Like I said it's the content that brings me back to both sites.

Moving on . . .
I try and avoid that site

Is this because the distributors basically give you the dvd but it has some watermarks. I can remember Serenity being like this on DVDActive and the extras are not placed on.

Yeah that's one of the big problems, but they also do barmy things like send you just the film disc or just the extras disc of a 2-disc SE. They've also started to reduce the length of time for which they're prepared to loan you the DVDs, which is a real problem for US discs that are gonna take days for us to send back. There have been some major DVD releases this year with extensive extras that our reviewers have literally had like 2days or so to get the reviews done! All this whilst maintaining a full time job.

Everyone at DVDtimes puts in a lot of work to ensure the site remains one of if not the best UK DVD review website, yet most the members on these boards would rather sit on their arses and slag the site off just for having the nerve to slap an advertisement a few lines long on the end of our reviews. It really does make me sick how spiteful people on the internet are sometimes (obviously i'm not talking about you slasher). :(

I'm sorry Brad, but that is simply not good enough, you have posted slanderous remarks about how DVDtimes is run as a website. You should either back those comments up with evidence or admit for once in your life that you haven't got a clue what you are talking about.

Singster I think your putting too much effort into defending the sites and its kind of a waste fo your energy, thats why when people go into "quote" overload I ussually tune out and run for my life :) you should just ignore people I say as some people do say things that rile others. Thats not a dig by the way, just you cannot win (to put it into a simple word) sometimes no matter what you say :)

I dont think dvdtimes/forums need defended even, as hell not many people even visit this site to see any of this stuff wrong or right :D

I dont see why this thread has expanded so much, its a pointless debate in the end I think.

Not at all romero, you're absolute right here. I think you have made by far the most intelligent and reasonable post so far in this thread.

I just want to implore anyone reading this thread who hasn't yet visited DVDtimes before to completely ignore the comments by Bradavon and Lourdes suggesting the site is a profitable machine that only cares about the cash coming in. As EvaUnit mentioned earlier we go to a lot of trouble to make sure every review is as thorough and fair as possible at the time. We make mistakes sometimes, but we usually stand up and rectify them when they are pointed out.

Just remember that Bradavon and Lourdes have never been members of DVDtimes staff and do not run DVD review sites on the scale of DVDtimes, so they have no clue what so ever as to the amount of money DVDtimes is bringing in or how extensive our expenditures are - or rather would be did we not have DVD review sponsors.

I think i'll leave it at that. :D

You should've seen my quotetastic thread the other day :D. I ended up deleting it as it was stupid and petty of me to quote every comment.
romerojpg wrote:I dont see why this thread has expanded so much, its a pointless debate in the end I think.
If it's so pointless why are you spending your effort replying?
Shingster wrote:I'm sorry Brad, but that is simply not good enough, you have posted slanderous remarks about how DVDtimes is run as a website. You should either back those comments up with evidence or admit for once in your life that you haven't got a clue what you are talking about.
I've spent the last 6 pages backing up my comments, whether you choose to believe me or not is up to you. You clearly have a vested interest in the sites which is fine but what I've said is true, even if it's hard to take.

As I keep saying you won't find me dissing the content in the slightest so your comment that I am sitting on my ass slagging off the site holds little water anyway.

Like I said we've both had our say so lets drop it. If that's not good enough for you tough!

p.s - If you wish to reply please do but I'll be making an effort to ignore it.

I'm sorry, where exactly have you backed up your claim that DVDtimes is a profitable business? Where exactly have you posted the income that DVDtimes makes compared to its expenditure to prove that DVDtimes is raking the cash in? Please, give me a post nuber or a quote.

Here is a few very simple questions to ask you:
Do you know how much money DVDtimes makes?
Do you know how much money it would cost to maintain the website's considerable DVDreview output?
Do you know how many clickthrough sales our reviews generate?
Do you know how much we make from those sales and our affiliates scheme?

If the answer is no to all of the above, then i'm sorry but you are a blatant liar Brad. You have not "backed up" your comments at all.

Sigh, you're right. Tis the season of goodwill and all that so I'm not going to see in the New Year with by taking part in some pointless internet argument with Brad. Arguing with hium always frustrates me because 90% of the time he's not even aware why someone is challenging his posts in the first place! :D

Brad, respond to my previous post if you want, but afaic the matter is over. I cannot guarantee that Colin or Dave won't eventually discover this thread, nor can I guarantee that they won't decide to ban you permanently from DVDtimes if they do (I very much doubt they would). But I can guarantee that they will not hear about this thread from me.

Lourdes: I want to apoligise for not being civil enough in response to your comments, the name calling and "you're talking arse" jibes gave me a good chuckle at the time but they were immature and unneccesary.

This isn't the first thread I've displayed this attitude with you and I've made it blatantly obvious that the tone of your posts wind me up sometimes, as I'm never sure whther you're being serious or not. Anyway, I never have the energy to hold grudges for long, so i'm sorry for all the aggressive posts I've made against you in the past month. 8)

I only mention it because Brad said something in a previous post about people reporting him to Colin on the DVDtimes before, and in another the possibility that he could be banned if the mods at times were to read this thread. Personally I hate that sort of thing and would certainly not bring this thread to attention of anyone who doesn't regularly browse the place. Let anyone else associated with DVDtimes find it on their own if they're going to.
