CTHD cover which doesn't suck?
Today I picked up the R4 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon CE for cheap, sans the insert booklet (meh, like I'd miss it anyway). As it's commonly known the R4 coverart is fucking awful - Floating heads and garish abnormally bright colours.
Anyone know of a region CTHD coverart which doesn't suck? The R1's looks crap with it's Oscar awards banner and critic quotes.

The R3 is the best it is similar to the R1/R2 BUT doesn't exorcise Zhang Ziyi's bloke (who's name evades me) from the cover so has all 4 of the leads. It's hard to get hold of now.
It also has the best subs by far out of all the releases (i.e - not dumbed down).
Actually the best cover art is the UK R2 LE HMV exclusive but this is long since OOP. It's the same disc as the normal UK R2/R1 but has the black theatrical poster cover art. I'd see if you can track down the R3.
You're right the R4 is awful.

In this topic:
https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/ ... .php?t=271
I have included information on the subs, video and audio tracks of most releases in my posts.
P.S. The information have to be accurate because I own almost every release of this film.

Awww crap ! That was the best edition available.I looked on HK Flix for the old R3 Tom but they don't have it
If it's really OOP then the R2 Superbit is the way to go now.

For a different cover, take a look here at the Italian release...

or

It has a very good video quality, but I can't remember if the Italian subs are removeable when watching the movie in Mandarin.

Did they?Lourdes wrote:They were all Columbia Tristar, there wasn't an Edko release. They just removed the subs to stop people importing then added them again later (diff subs) and then removed them again.
I heard they re-released it for a while without subs but then put them back. The version I have has the correct/non-messed up subs so I'm happy.
They're nearly as bad though.Tom2681 wrote:If it's really OOP then the R2 Superbit is the way to go now.
I'd honestly prefer a bootleg from the original/proper/non-messed up/cinema subs than any of these bastardised versions.

I decided on the UK cover in the end (which I downloaded from cdcovers.cc, since the HK cover looks overcrowded with Lo/Dark Cloud on it. He ain't a major character anyway. I don't mind the small UK rating circles, damn well better than the massive Aussie rating banners.
I not willing to surrender a commentary track just for "more poetic" subs. The UK-ised subs (on the R2 & R4) are just fine.

The R3 has the commentary too. The only difference (bar subs) is the two music videos instead of the Making Of.EvaUnit02 wrote:I not willing to surrender a commentary track just for "more poetic" subs.
I like both about the same, not that it matters for me as the proper subs are crucial to me. IMO Lo is an important character and should be on the cover as much as everyone else.

Egad, That's even worse than the R4!

So the R3 does have the commentary. Woof, Coco Lee is damn hot. But still I wouldn't double-dip (not until a Hi-Def format becomes affordable at least, which is still a number of years away), I'm satisfied with the R4 for the time being. I'd been looking for CTHD for cheap brand new and had finally happen upon it for $20NZD, so I snapped it up. THe R3 is OOP anyway, right? Plus it's readily available in most DVD rental joints down here anyway.
