Fatal Contact

Post by DangerousLeeHandsome »

Got an e-mail from Edaymovie.com about a Fatal Contact DVD. I've heard some nice things about it but have seen nothing, not even a trailer for it. Is it any good? Could someone give a link to a streaming trailer (no downloads please)? Thanks.

That's gotta be the first time I've seen someone ask for a streaming trailer. :D

Here's a Youtube trailer (no subs):

OK, I gotta ask:
Why no download ? :bom:
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

No particular reason. I've got too much crap on the computer already courtesy of my younger brothers and sisters.

You can always delete it after you've watched it ;) , instead of spending half the time freezing and getting annoyed :D

Is the film and website any good?

hey,

quite a radical change for director Dennis Law who made a pair of youth dramas prior. Have his The Unusual Youth up for review here.
Dennis Law's action-drama doesn't skimp on the action or the drama, but the quality of both are at opposite extremes. Ronald Cheng's comic timing and Wu Jing's martial arts prowess are the highlights here, and should please fans of either. However, fans of actual good films should keep their expectations low.

Dvd is from Garry's Trading so be careful. We might get a print with burned in subs only.

Twitch.net has a review now, see: http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/008580.html

Looks pretty good, but might wait for another release to come out

Fatal Contact 2.5/5

Hmmm....very strange movie this one. Disjointed as hell. The scriptwriter doesn't know if he wanted to write a comedy, tragi-melodrama or action movie. It tries to be a bit of everything (in a way that a lot of 80s and 90s HK movies were) but doen't hold together at all. It just goes from what one extreme to the next.

The worst part is the melodrama. It is so over the top I thought I was watching a cheesy daytime soap opera. The parts of the film that work really well is the action and the comedy. The action scenes really show off Wu Jing's ability and the choreography is top notch. The lighter scenes are also great fun. I'm not Ronald Cheng's biggest fan (he is a better singer than actor) but he is on good form here, and also shows he is not too shoddy in the martial arts either.

It is a shame that the ridiculous melodrama is amped up to 11, otherwise this would be a very good movie.
