Thanks. Any truth to the inferior contrast boosting of the Remix releases? http://madboards.madman.com.au/viewtopi ... 507#544507

Also Lourdes, did you ever end up getting the End of Eva R3TW Renewal release?

I have that same Madman sampler with the first ep on. I'll compare it to the R1 Remix later on.

Eva R3TW = bunk. Interlacing at every change of shot. I have the video from the R2J's now so I'm building the ultimate Eva discs.

I can understand why some people would 'hate' naruto.
On the surface it looks alot like a 'kiddie-anime' and to be honest, the animation itself is quite ugly.

But still, I really liked the show untill the fillers started...
Naruto can be annoying at times, and he isnt my favourite character, that's for sure, but it's a good show, with lots of interesting characters and a very nice, epic story...

The fillers are really bringing the show down though. I've stopped watching it, although I do keep downloading them, just so I'll have the show complete...

What's kakashi gaiden? 'Story of Kakashi'? If so, whats the big deal?

IT IS kiddie anime, it's just DBZ (which sucks as well) with angsty adolescents.

DBZ is fucking great. Although obviously the butchered 'western' version sucks bigtime...

Toriyama is a genius :)

Agreed. Also love "Naruto". Argh... have to continue reading it. I only got to volume 5 or 6 so far IIRC.

I have the manga up till pt 11 I believe. The artwork is very good, and obviously the story is great (but exactly the same as the series)

About Toriyama: Have you read Dr. Slump? It's amazingly funny :D

My lucky day. I have been wanting to see hard evidence for the R3K/R2J being best. All I've seen so far are comments. Never been able to get caps or find out if they're progressive.

It's a small story arc that occured in the Manga at the end of Part.1 and before the start of Part2 (the "Wind Saga"). It's basically the story of how Kakashi got his sharingan eye and became the laid back sarcastic, tardy ninja he is now (he was an uptight git like Sasuke before). The reason it's important is because there's a possibilty that one of the characters introduced in this gaidan could be one of the Akatsuki (although I personally think the chances of that are slim to none). It's also important because Yondaime is one of the main characters, and fans had been waiting aaages for a proper Yondaime flashback. Although he wasn't the Yondaime Hokage when this story is set, no one refers to him by his name so we still don't know if he's Naruto's father or not. :D

BTW Yi, you seen berserk yet?

Oh and about Naruto being crap because it's a "kiddie anime" - what complete and utter bollocks! In Japan children's anime doesn't have the stigma snobby ignoramuses here in the west (and New Zealand and Australia) assign to cartoons. I suppose Eva and Lourdes think the Ghibli films are also "kiddie" rubbish.

Let's not turn this thread into the egregiously pretentious love-in that is the anime thread on the AsianDVDGuide please people.

Aw OK, sounds interesting, although I'm not a big fan of Kakashi TBH.
Didnt know that the 4th hokage was called Yondaime (mainly cause I'm crap at remembering names), but he's one of the best designed characters in the series. I really like how he looks, so it would be cool seeing some more about him. Naruto is some kind of reincarnation of him, isnt he?

Anyway, please let me know when the fillers have come to an end :)
BTW Yi, you seen berserk yet?
I watched the first 4-5 episodes a few years ago, but back then I didnt have the remaining episodes so I stopped watching (the days before bittorrent, with kazaa light and napster... so downloading was a bitch)
Now, I have the whole series downloaded, but havent watched it yet...

I just started watching Neon Genesis Evangalion's first episode tonight.
I'm not a big sci-fi or robot fan, but supposedly it's a good show so I'll give it a try. First episode was OK-ish, nothing special TBH....

Has anyone tried Death Note yet? If so, how did you like it.
If not: WHAT THE FUCK IS THE MATTER WITH YOU!? DOWNLOAD AND WATCH IT NOWWW!!!

Ah, Yondaime means 4th in Japanese so it's just a reference to which Hokage he was. Many western fans like to refer to the Hokages in Japanese as it at least sounds like they have names (Shodai/1st, Niidaime/2nd, Sandaime/3rd, Yondaime/4th, Godaime/5th)

We don't know what Naruto's relationship to Yondaime is, if there's one at all. The most popular theory is that they're Father/Son, but the 2nd most popular theory is that Naruto is some sort of reincarnation of Yondaime because Kyuubi hasn't been sealed in the belly of the death god.

I think there are 2 reasons why the reincarnation theory is popular, one is that the opening pages of the Manga read like Kishimoto introduces Naruto as the 4th Hokage. Also in Kishimoto's original unbpublished 1st chapter of Naruto he was actually Kyuubi's cub, he wasn't human.

I'll be sure to post in this thread when the fillers end though m8. :) BTW which characters in Naruto are you favourite then?

Ah I remember those days, I actually downloaded every episode of Rurouni Kenshin off Kazaa, you can imagine how long it took! :D

Stick with it, Neon Genesis is for me the best sci-fi anime out there.

Right now I have a list of Manga I want to ge through by christmas, and in this order they are: Hellsing, Full Metal Alchemist, and Death Note. As soon as I have read the Manga I will definitely start the anime 8)

The 1st Death Note film grossed around $30million in Japan. HK DVD is out soon I think. The 2nd film was also #1 at the Japanese box office for the last 4weeks as well, recently been toppled by Casino Royale.

:)[/quote] :) :D 8)

Who said it was crap just because it was children's show? It's crap becuz it's a brain-dead shonen show. Adolescent emo sulking, fight, fight, staring contest/trash-talking, fight, fight, more adolescent emo sulking... rinse and repeat.

I will admit that it is highly addictive though, I did watch about 140 episodes.

Heavily implies that "kiddie" anime sucks, it was Lourdes' comments that really got my goat though! I know i'm a glutton for punishment with the amount of Jdoramas I watch, but 140eps of something you thought was crap? That's well into the filler arcs as well! :D

You gonna start watching when the "wind saga" starts? There's a concurring them of self mutilation that might perk your interest.

Probably not, but my friend will probably burn me DVDs with the fansubbed eps regardless.

I must have missed the part of Mononoke where Ashitaka pouts angstily for 2/3 of the film then throws fireball kicks at some poorly animated oblong monster. Rinse, repeat.

What's pretentious about not liking substanceless and repetitive adolescent drivel?

The music videos of the ending and opening themes of the Death Note anime, by band Nightmare.

Seriously, WTF?! Not even David Bowie in his "Diamond Dogs"/"Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" phase looked that ridiculous.

There's nothing pretentious about disliking an individual show - for whatever reason - but you blanket entire genres together and make grand sweeping comments like the vast majority of anime out there is utter shit.

Plus when you post in a general anime thread to laugh at people for liking a specific show (that you have most likely never even seen based on the comments in your last post), well that's just so monumentally smug that you probably wouldn't have the balls to act like that to someone in person, coz you'd receive swift punch to the face - and you'd thoroughly deserve it. :D

The vast majority of anime is shit and every shounen superseries is specifically pap.
I've seen Naruto, for some silly reason I still feel I should try series when I already know what to expect from a poster or the fanbase. It's hard to completely ignore popular nonsense.

But away from this. Has anybody been watching Bartender? If you're a drinker it's great, but at the same time if you're a drinker you'll ugh at some of the stuff. It has lovely music, a great atmosphere and there's not really an overall plot. Just a nice slice of life show.

Not yet. It did sound interesting from the description on Lunaranime's site though (which I read while leeching their Diebuster fansubs).

AnimeOnDVD need to learn about NOT using shitty forum software. First the UBBThreads bollocks and now this dreadful FuzionBB thing. All major forums should use vBulletin or at least phpBB/Invision Board.

I'm surprised at how decent Death Note is. For one the protagonist is great - Light Yagami is one sociopathic, power-mad and cunningly evil motherfucker. It's so nice to root for the bad guy (I wouldn't call him an "anti-hero", just because he's the lead character of the series) for a change.

It's great that manga actually finished its run long before the anime was made. The adaptation should be pretty faithful then.

I only go there for the occasional bit of information on a disc. Never read the reviews.

I'm watching Eva again as I author the discs. I've been too harsh on Renewal, it still needs a proper HD remaster but for a 16mm production it does not look at all bad when you actually watch it. Far better than many much newer series in fact.
