It is very noticable IMO. Even I, who didn't notice any problems on my SFMV and JSA disc when I first viewed them, was irritated as hell by the problem. I had the IVL version but I got rid of it and kept the AB instead...
...and you all know how poor the AB looks (and also sounds) compared to IVL...
...should say something about the seriousness of the problem...
But if there's really people who can't notice it or aren't bothered by it, then good for them. I wish I was that lucky.
Can't wait for the HK Video. It's not like all of their releases are good, but at least you can rely on them getting the basics right

Total bollocks, if you cannot notice it you have very bad eyes or must think films just look like this.tom2681 wrote:Around the 12-minute mark.
It's barely noticeable.
I always thought it was some kind of DVD authoring mistake.
Anyway I couldn't care less about this "frame-repeating problem".
Everyone I have shown it to has been in shock they ever even released it, some ignorant reviewers of the dvds never even noticed it, great reviewing
If you dont care dont say something like "its still the best version", it isnt its pretty much unwatcable. Its all the way thru the film anyway, just more of it early on and longer frame weaving.
I will NEVER watch that version ever again, its truley abysmal and one of the worst mistakes ever put to a dvd, apart from the shit Anchor Bay Night of the Living Dead frame pause after every shot. It ruins the film, and thats enuff for anyone not to beother wth such a pathetic release. Unwatchable mess.
The Anchor Bay version is far better for no frame repeating alone.
I have had to sit thru this kind of thing for 1 reel or two of a film in the cinema, everyone in the crowd was talking about it and it ruined the film in the cinema, so its not just a dvd thing it could be a film processing thing.
Just the idiots forgot to correct it for the dvd of Better Tommrorw release I guess. Pathetic.

We're all different, aren't we ?
Some people don't notice the flickering effect on FOX's Postman Fights Back.
It makes the film unwatchable for me.
The ghosting on Tartan DVDs makes me cringe.
Some people just don't care.
Many people complain about the IVL ABT1 defect.
Others can barely see it.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

After the stella work on SPL and Police Story (it's looking that way), another two stella releases get announced:
* The (almost, still the HK theatrical cut) definitive "Seven Swords" release: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=63431
* Bar the silly re-title (not that it was ever going to be called TYG) a stella "Tom Yum Goong" 2 Disc DVD to compare against the Premier Asia 2 Disc DVD: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=63432
I see a trend: HKL excellent, Bey and Brian leave, HKL not so excellent. Way to go HKL!

Re: Seven Swords
Nice work there DD. HKL/PA if you're listening. This is how you should've released Seven Swords, not some (further) butchered version.
As I already own the HK 3 Disc release which is similar to this also with English subtitled extras and Full-rate DTS (hence the 3 discs, discs 1-2 being the movie). I'll pass. Oh and it has a subtitled director's commentary too.
This though now looks to be the best English friendly version.
Re: Tom Yum Goong
It looks even with the UK Premier Asia effort IMO. Which doesn't have a silly alternate cut getting in the way.
That is assuming the two cuts are there using seamless branching??? If it's each cut on a single layer of a dual layer disc then the UK Premier Asia easily wins.
The extras do look better here though, "just" Bey while great on HK cinema tends to be a borefest on anything else. Oh and at least of the two re-titles the UK's "Warrior King" is far better.
I'll probably end up picking up the UK DVD it's already cheap and I just love Premier Asia/HKL 2 Disc releases (I wish we got more of them). The commentary will "probably" be dull and that just leaves extras which compare to the UK's interviews.
I certainly wouldn't rush out to pre-order The Protector until seamless branching has been confirmed???

To be fair their Intial: D 2 disc DVD is pretty good with commentary too as is their new TBB (in that it has a new commentary) but agreed otherwise they're not half as good as they used to be.

Very true. It's just that if the film sucks the commentary can be the best thing. Also the commentaries have great rewatch/listen valueIvan Drago wrote:You really need to learn there's more to DVD's of Asian cinema than Bey Loganbleeper wrote:It's all about Bey and that other guy. How do you watch a commentary?
I figured the R1 would be uncut.
Well in the case of DD releases Bleeper is 100% correct.Ivan Drago wrote:You really need to learn there's more to DVD's of Asian cinema than Bey Logan
