I normally dont trust lists such as that though i'm pretty impressed with this one. On her majesty's secret service is a classic example of a film which the critics have no choice but to give goodish marks to for technical merit whereas the audience just go on whether they liked it or not.

Interesting that TND is way down on the critics list but gets a high audience rating.

After re-watching OHMSS and Dr. No recently I'd definitely say Dr. No is the worst of the two.

Personally I think most people latch on two Connery and Andress. Ursula Andress only appears in the film right at the end and Connery while good can't save the film from being limp and boring, virtually nothing happens.

It literally doesn't get going until about 15-20 minutes before the end. The point when the villian appears is so need the end I literally looked at my watch and thought "it's nearly over but has only just got started".

Take Connery's obvious charisma away and you have a poorly made film. From Russia with Love however is vastly better in every way!

OHMSS however while having to put up with 90 minutes of one expression George Lazenby at least when it gets going it's lots of fun. As soon as Bond escapes from Blofeld's lair it really takes off. The skiing choreography is very well done.

Both films though are very poor indeed.

p.s - I can see now Tomorrow Never Dies is poorly made against some of the other Bonds but for me it's my favourite as it's just so much fun.

IMO the solution to why "modern" Bonds score better among "audiences" is mainly that the votees are "youngish" and "can't grasp" with the older flicks :D

Whereas the critics have (by now) "seen it all" and expects "more" from Bond based on the past 20+ films.

Anyhoo I'd like to see the average teen bopper that could sit down and enjoy "3 days of the Condor" which is a stellar film...

I've heard that before but it doesn't hold true when From Russia with Love and lots of the other older Bonds get top marks.

3 of the top 5 are Connery Bonds and 2 of those are slow paced spy thriller not action fodder.

OHMSS just like Die Another Day (one of the most over the top, far removed from source material Bonds there is) both get low marks as they simply aren't very good.

Ah well, I really want to like the Brosnan Bond's because I "always" wanted to see Brosnan as Bond (and I think he fit's it perfectly). Too bad he got stuck with the first few (failed?) attempts at modernizing and revitalizing the Bond saga. DAD could have been a really good and different (down and gritty) Bond... But they didn't go all the way... Unfortunately.

It sounds like they dared one step further with Casino Royale... Good for the franchise, not so for Brosnan - but hey, he'll survive :D

Personally I think Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are very good Bonds. TWINE is decent too.

"Die Another Day" is the best Bond-movie ever made. Period!

I don't know, are you? ;)

Goldeneye and TND are very good Bonds IMO. More action adventure than spy thriller but still very good.

I think Dr. No is fine until they get to the island. Then we have to put up with a dull heroine - I much prefer the book counterpart - an underused villian and a damn silly looking dragon.

It's fine "until" they get to the island, that's when it finally takes off. There's a dragon in Dr. No? But yes the villain is very underused.

LOL! Thats like your "where did Bond get all that money from?" comment on Licence To Kill. The dragon is a big "fire-breathing" tank on the island. How could you miss it?

Oh that. The way Ivan put it you'd think he was actually talking about a dragon. You don't honestly remember every second of every film you see, do you?

Who said anything about women? I quoted bradavon as saying "money".

Well no, but I seem to have a better memory for plot points than you do! :P Its a long time since I last saw Dr No but I still remember the dragon-tank.

Man, chill. Don't be paranoid, lol. It was my own question I wanted to add, trying to make a joke. I didn't say that you asked this.

I am chilled, I am chilled! :P Sorry, I just thought you'd read my quote wrong and that you thought I'd put women instead of money. :)

How about everyone puts Bond films in order from best to worst?

1. You Only Live Twice (1967)
2. Goldfinger (1964)
3. Dr. No (1962)
4. Live And Let Die (1973)
5. The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
6. For Your Eyes Only (1981)
7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
8. Moonraker (1979)
9. Casino Royale (2006)
10. GoldenEye (1995)
11. Thunderball (1965)
12. The Living Daylights (1987)
13. Licence To Kill (1989)
14. A View To a Kill (1985)
15. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
16. Octopussy (1983)
17. Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
18. Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
19. Quantum of Solace (2008)
20. The World Is Not Enough (1999)
21. Die Another Day (2002)

+ From Russia with Love (1963) (can't remember how good this is, been too long since I last saw it)

Also, some other films I haven't seen for a long time so the list isn't necessarily absolutely right, but close anyway.
