What's considered the best Roger Moore Bond?

Post by bradavon »

As title.

Please say if it's because of Humour and/or Seriousness. It's been so long since I've seen them they've all gelled together.

Moore's only really serious film is For Your Eyes Only - aside from its opening. LALD is the best because it's humourous without descending into Carry On smut or awful in-joke only Brits get - ie. the Barbara Woodhouse bit in Octopussy

Wish that I could remember which non-Brosnan Bonds that I've seen in order to answer these threads.

For Your Eyes Only is the best of the Moore Bond films in my opinion. bradavon, you seem to have a similar taste to me in Bond films (more grit & reality, less puns & gadgets) so I recommend you check that one out first!

Me too. I'm surprised so many can when like I said to me they all seem like one long film.

I do remember Live and Let Die being one of the weakest, with loads of Black stereotypes, which I realise is the whole point.

Is Live and Let Die any good? Now I think about it I remember particularly liking The Man with the Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me.

Many American films have American in jokes or American terms only they get.

I do but also like TND (mostly because of Yeoh's involvement it has to be said) and TWINE as a guilty please BUT yes overall tough/straight Bond is better.

I don't mind the gadgets though, as long as they're not over the top. I do hate Die Another Day which is the only really OTT the top Bond I can remember.

Funnily enough when I first saw the Bonds I liked the Moores as much as the Connery's. As I said I particularly remember liking TMWTGG and TSWLM but am really not sure if I still will.

The Man With The Golden Gun is one of the worst Bond films, along with A View To A Kill.

Live and Let Die. I love the dialogue in it. It's also got a nice dose of weirdness and one of the best chase sequences of all time.

Moore's early films were his best (including Golden Gun)

Octopussy was awful! I still reckon For Your Eyes Only is the best of the Moore era...

Octopussy does have a fantastic music score though.

I always find the Moore films patchy - they have some great moments, yet some dull sections too. But Octopussy is almost breathlessly entertaining. It rarely stops moving.
