If you had a time machine.....

Post by grim_tales »

What would you do? Would you go backwards or forwards?

I'd go to see people like The Beatles, ABBA and and Elvis (at their height) in concert (and buy Elvis an exercise mchine for when he's older ;) ), go back to try to persuade Mark Chapman it wasn't the end of the world when a famous person doesnt write their name on a piece of paper for you, make sure Bruce Lee doesn't die (give him another brand of headache tablet?), catch a few premieres of his seminal 70's HK films and then
go back to the beginning of creation and have a look at Jesus or the Ancient Egyptians, so you could see the pyramids being built or something. :D
Then make sure Buddy Holly's and John Denver's plane didnt start up. Alter Saddam's stair-carpet, and demand a "proper" recount of votes in the 2000 election :D

Oh, and push Adolf Hitlers pregnant mother down a flight of stairs. :D

I'd go back and do things differently in my own life. Simple decisions I would rethink. Places I would go. People I would do. Etc... You can't make big historical changes, because you never know if things could change for the worse or you could end up erasing yourself and that would be baaaaad.

AS bad as it may be, if Hitler was killed in child birth or something like that, I probably wouldn't be here.

So if I could go back and change anything, it would unfortunately pretty much only be small things for myself. Main one would be to make sure I didn't fall teeth first into a jagged boulder when I was three... Save me A LOT of pain in the future, physical and emotional!

Who is Mark Chapman?

To answer your question. I'd love to go back to the days of the British empire (only for a few days though), to a time when explorers were so raveared and people had a huge hunger to explore.

More recently I'd love to go back to when Ali was at the height of his fame or when Martin Luther King was still alive.

Bloody hell that's tough. What did his mother ever do wrong?

Although I agree some one should've taken him out but I honestly don't think anyone (outside of his close friends) had any idea what was going on or what he planned. I understand most Germans were as shocked as everyone else.

It's also easy enough to brainwash people. Germans were thought of as second class citizens after WW1, they lost all their powers. It's not surprising they felt happy when Hitler came along.

We'd be just the same!

Why do you say that?

Most ordinary Germans felt that way because of the brainwashing (in WW2 particularly but also there was German propaganda in WW1). The Germans treated Jews despicably as they thought Jews had lost them WW1. You're right, they were happy when Hitler came along but as you say its easy to brainwash people. For example Hitler was just telling Germany's mass-unemployed what they wanted to hear. :D

Its interesting you say most ordinary Germans were shocked, were they shocked despite Nazi propaganda?

Re; The last remark: I'm not sure Brad but isn't Kris part Polish? Does that have something to do with it? :? :)

I don't know, I just know he has a Polish surname, Wojciechowski (maybe some of his family are Poles, were involved in WW2?) :)

Well I'm impressed that people remembered that my surname is Polish, and that grim spelt it right!! You wouldn't believe some of the spellings I've seen for my name... And brad, yeah I'm Kris!!! :)

Anyway, yeah my grandfather who is where the polish side of my family come from came over to the UK around WWII time. So if there had been no Hitler, there possibly wouldn't have been a WWII, therefore my grandfather may not have come over to the UK, therefore he'd never have met my gran, therefore my dad wouldn't have been born and without him neither would I.

Very selfish of me I know... I could save millions by doing it, but just thinking about it and then the paradox it would cause by me not existing kinda messes with my head, so I don't think I could do it!

Bound to have mentioned it before, and anyone who has traded with me will know that it is what it is!

Oh, if I had a time machine I'd go back and try to stop Claudia Christianson (sp?) from leaving Babylon 5 at the end of series 4.

Thats' interesting Kris. :) My dad said that if it hadn't been for the Japanese surrender in WW2 (and the US dropping the atomic bomb) he (or I) probably wouldn't be here because his father (my grandfather, who I never met) was a sargeant in WW2. It was said more people (allies) could have died then (over a much longer period) had the Americans not dropped the bomb, so if he had died. my father may not have been born, ergo i wouldn't be born.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't say that, but it does show any little thing changes all of history :)

Thanks. What's that got to do with a piece of paper? I'm not up with how Lennon died (apart from he was shot). He was a very talented man though.

I'd go back in time and meet up with Bruce Lee... and beat him. Then I'd go to HK and join Sammo's lil kung fu film-making group and make a bunch of movies, untill about the mid-eighties... when I would find and 'discover' a very young Wong Kar Wai and talk him into making movies with me and Leslie Cheung etc...
