Hmm a lot's happened since I went to Japan - interesting stuff.

I expected the hairdresser boy band to still be in the competition though...

Next week they will do ABBA songs BTW, and the cast of Mama Mia! will perform a song.
Could be tough week for Ben, as I said he has a rock voice and the majority of ABBA tracks have Agnetha and Frida on lead vocals.
I think the uptempo rock boogie "Does Your Mother Know" would be better for him. I don't want the poiganant classic "The Winner Takes It All" ruined in a rock style :(
Funny but Ben actually reminds me of Bo Bice on US Idol from a couple of seasons back, wouldn't surprise me if he (Ben) is being set up as an "alternative" contender/winner.
Ray will probably do "Chiqitita" (sp?) or "I Have a Dream" as he has the right soppy voice, no doubt he will suck all the emotion from the tracks :x

grim_tales wrote:I'm angry Kerry went - it should be about performance on the night not "potential" Ashley was clearly the worst
I actually disagree and think it's about potential over performance, and feel that Louis made the right choice. As he said, Kerry was not likely to improve any further whereas Ashley could be capable of improving substantially. To knock him out at this stage could mean that the world (ok the UK) will never see Ashley at his best.

Interesting. :)
Simon clearly doesn't like Kerry though as demonstrated by his comments after her beautiful "I Don't Want To Talk About It" performance, which anyone with ears could hear was bang on.

I can't see the point of theme weeks IMO, a bit boring IMO.

Ray: Ain't That a Kick In The Head >>> No one but Dino can do Dino. I still think he sings like a kid, but having said that his overall performance was one of the better ones, as he really got into it in a big way.

Dionne: For Once In My Life >>> Was OK. She got voted off even though there's worse than her.

Nikita: Sway >>> I like her voice, but the song didn't work.

Ben: Smile >>> Awful. The best part was when it ended. The judges were clearly listening to something else.

McDonald Bros >>> Mediocre. What else is there to say?

Leona >>> She's a great piece of ass... but I don't rate her sub-Mariah Aquilera impression. She has no unique identity despite Simon's drool to the contrary.

Kerry >>> Last week she was the best. This week she sounded off. Flat and dreary I'm afraid. Wasn't surprised she went.

Eton Rd >>> Ghastly. Bobby Darin is rolling in his grave.

Robert >>> He's over the top. Needs to calm the hell down.

LOL agreed about Leona. She is FINE, but what let her down was the unnecessary Mariah stuff on the song, Billie Holiday didn't sing like that.

Agreed, Eton Rd were crap :D

Nikita was OK, didnt like the "accent" :?

Ben was a bit shouty on Smile but there seemed genuine emotion compared to the others who were just "performing" IMO. He makes a change from identikit boy/girls (Shayne etc).

All right Kerry wasn't the best this week but Ashley was crap and deserved to go for being out of tune and fluffing his lines.

According to Tony Bennet, Mack The Knife was originally recorded by Louis Armstrong but Bobby Darin made it famous.

There's only one explanation for the drooling, Simon fancies Leona - its obvious :D Louis is a right nutjob, always criticizing the songs people sing, he criticized Nikita when she sang - Sway is a classic and was a hit for the Pussycat Dolls FFS, so can clearly be "modernised". I'm sure there was a club/dance take on it too some years ago.

Yeah, but the Pussycat Dolls stink. :D

...and I can't think of anything positive to say about Ben "Bolton".

I think the ABBA week will be car crash telly. I've heard a couple of ABBA shows on ITV like ABBA Mania and they're awful, no one but ABBA can sing those songs. They may sound simple, yet they are complex musically.
Having said that, I have been to see Mama Mia in the West End and it was great fun, the songs were great because they didn't mess about with them, and they sounded very, very close to the originals. Good tribute bands (I admit I haven't seen an ABBA one) respect the original artists, thats why The Bootleg Beatles were brilliant.
If the ABBA songs are done in a different style it will be bad. I heard Louis wants the McDonald Bros. to sing "Fernando" with bagpipes. Yikes! :o

Ray: I like swing but I don't think Waterloo translated well and he still sounds like a boy.

Nikita: Was off-key and lacklustre. She's getting cuter though...

Ben: Abysmal, excruciating. This sub-Bolton screamer must be stopped!

McDonald Bros: Karaoke night all over again. What's with Simon's anti-Scots remarks??

Leona: I'd happily bang her but wouldn't listen to her sing. More Mariah Aguilera shenanigans. Simon is letting his cock do his critiquing as usual.

Eton Rd: Surprisingly one of the better performances. Nice arrangements. Fun.

Robert: He was reasonable this week.

Ashley: Sideshow Bob still sounds like a foghorn. Wasn't surprised to see him go.

Ray: A swing version of Waterloo - WTF? An experiment that didn't work, and its unfair that he got to sing a swing song twice in 2 weeks. I couldnt even hear his words properly, and he still sounds too young to sing that sort of music 4/10

Nikita - Out of tune as you say Mark. 4/10

Ben - Like a soft rock version of SOS done by Michael Bolton - pretty bad. Does Your Mother Know? would have been better for him. He tried though and gave it his all I guess - 5/10

McDonald Bros. - Mediocre but as you say, why does Simon have to say "Scottish version of Fernando"? Likewise why does Louis attest "Scotland will vote for them" because of nationality? :? Simon used Scottish as an insult which was out of order! 4/10

Leona - Leona is fit, to be sure, and did a OK-ish version of Chiquitita apart from some unnecessary Mariah/Aguilera moments AGAIN. I have to say Louis was absolutely right. I'm fed up of her doing fancy notes just because she can. Compared to the original record however, it lacks the emotion and warmth needed to carry it off. 6/10

Eton Rd - I thought this was good. Good fun :) Camp as scouts - 7/10

Robert - Not bad at all, though I would have preferred him to do the whole song piano/ballad style, his "let's party" schtick is getting oid now IMO. 6/10

Ashley: Hideous - he absolutely murdered this poignant classic of a song (The Winner Takes It All), it was like listening to a 90's R&B lite version, where was the melody and emotion? Flat as a pancake. The arrogant prick also had the gall to say he was the most talented person, what a sore loser. 2/10

I felt a lump in my throat hearing the original records of Chiquitita, Fernando and Winner Takes It All.

You can tell when Kate asked Bjorn if he had enjoyed the night, he clearly hadn't. Even a pre-recorded song by the Mama Mia cast (I saw it at the Prince Edward theatre in 1999 I think) knocked spots off the contestants, that show is tremendous.

True :D He said Ben Bolton gave one of the best performances (!)
As you said Ashley was awful, not a good performance at all. I couldnt even tell what song it was until he started singing.

I wonder what the theme will be next week?
I think they should do a comedy song week - *imagines Ray singing "Shaddap Your Face" in a swing style with cod Italian accent* :o :D

Article in the Sun - Leona in race row:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,1105 ... 79,00.html

 Rather sad that her mum brought up the race issue IMO. Leona is a beautiful girl with a nice voice BUT she is often too OTT, and thats the problem. Like Mariah Carey, she uses 12 notes when holding 1 will do, and like Mariah Carey she isnt particularly black anyway.
Look how close Andy came to winning X factor last season. Did Ashley get voted off last week because he was black? No, because he wasn't good enough. Grow up.
Look at Lemar from Fame Academy also - he is black and came third - yet he had far more success than the guy who won the show. Leona's mum is an idiot. She will get voted out if she is not good enough - nothing to do with her race IMO :?

Song choices for this week (stolen from Digital Spy)

Guest: Julio Iglesias

Theme: Love Songs

Ray - Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen)
Robert - Always And Forever (?)
Nikitta - Last Dance (Donna Summer)
Eton Road - From Me To You (The Beatles)
Ben - I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing (Aerosmith)
Leona - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (Elton John)
The Macdonald Brothers - She’s The One (Robbie Williams)

Ho-hum predictable. I think Ben will do well with the Aerosmith song though, I'd like him to sing softly and not screech it. BUT it IS really, really obvious.
There are better Beatles songs than Eton Rd's choice!

Leona - :? Would have liked to see her tackle the superb "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera, considering she seems to emulate her vocal style so much.
Why doesn't Louis pick the McD's a duet? All I Have To Do Is Dream by the Everley Brothers maybe?

I don't even like Aerosmith singing that whiny crap. Imagine how bad Ben will be???

And Leona's mum is a silly cow. Fact.

:D True, I hate I Don't Want To Miss a Thing too, Steve Tyler screeches most of it, terrible.

I bet Ben will do a guitar solo  :o

When will Simon realise that by putting the McDonald's down (OK he can say they are mediocre, which they are - but to get their name wrong on purpose and top it off with anti Scots remarks is out of order IMO!) it makes people vote for them! :?
