Interesting, about the subtitles see the following:

There was some concern that the subtitles on this disc would be of the ‘SDH’ variety, but that is not the case. While all dialogue (even English) is subtitled, there are no subs for effects like cheering crowds or thunderstorms. It’s slightly annoying that the English dialogue is needlessly subtitled, but it only affects around a half dozen lines so it’s not too much of a problem. Universal should really have included separate English and English SDH subtitles on the disc though. I was also somewhat disappointed with what appeared to be loose translations of the original dialogue, unless of course the word ‘wuss’ was commonplace in19th century China. At least one of the characters is also given a more ‘Western’ name (as Yueci becomes Moon).

Is it Universal in The States? If so I'm guessing identical or maybe a featurette. Now it has standard subs I'll pick it up (but will wait for the R1 first, R4 takes too long).

Like Slasher it will need to be under a tenner though.

At least the official DVD is dual layer so will have a higher bitrate than the other English subtitled versions (note: not official).

* Uncut (I presume it has two cuts)
* Deleted Scenes
* "A Fearless Journey" Featurette

The bad:

* Possibly English HOH Subs!
* ATROCIOUS cover art, why didn't Universal re-use the UK cover art?

If it turns out to be the same cut & have proper subs I'm all over the HD-DVD Combo.

Yes, for once a HD-DVD combo which has the unrated cut on the SD-DVD side. It's all down to whether it has proper subs or not as Brad says.

Looks like both the R1 and R2 have HOH subs so it'll be the deleted scenes which make the R1 the more appealing prospect. Certainly not the ghastly cover art. The US theatrical release was PG-13, and since the version I saw here probably would've gotten an '18' about ten years ago, I presume their's was cut, and that the UNrated edition is what we in the UK saw.

And the Unrated cut is the same cut we got (or is a longer cut of course).

Nope read the DVD Active review above. The UK R2 has normal subs but they do sub the English too (despite the actual cover in shops saying it's HOH).

Uhm... I know the longer cut was recently announced (even saw pictures of Jet Li fighting a Muay Thai fighter) to be released with English subtitles. It's probably written somewhere here, but I'm honestly too lazy to browse through the whole 12 pages.

Sooooo... anybody have the news at hand?

Maybe but not actually HOH. There's not much English dialogue right? If so it doesn't bother me.

It bothered me more in Kill Bill JP where there was little non-English dialogue.

News of the R4, but no specs yet. Will probably be identical to the R2UK as Universal discs are usually dual-encoded for R2/4.. I don't see anyone bothering with this one, especially in wake of the R1 releases (Unless the R1's have HOH captions like <winds howls>, etc).
