It's when the characters are out hunting. I can't remember who fires the arrow. But we see the arrow (probably shot by one of the crew off camera) hit the Deer and it fall over. It's not faked. Bastards.

Hmmm... where is the difference when during the wrap party the crew eats a deer they shot themselves or buy meat from the supermarket?

Well, the animal was killed inhumanly which is the difference (although the likes of KFC and maybe some supermarkets aren't that different either). I wouldn't have minded if it was faked (still a little unpleasent all the same though).

Inhumanly? How? Because it was shot with an arrow? As opposed to what hunters to "everyday" and kill stuff with bullets?

(I have no idea what you folks are talking about though... just curious :D)
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Depends if they ate the deer afterwards or just left it to rot...?

They usually eat the animals they kill on the set in HK. Just like the chicken "Mr. Vampire" or "Encounter of the Spooky Kind".

The problem is killing it for "entertainment". Would you want your death to be filmed for viewing pleasure? Thought not.

Agreed with Mark & Bisc not that I'd advocate killing animals period but as it happens it's better that at leas it's eaten.

That said it was killed first and foremost for the film, the eating came second. Which puts it in an entirely different light.

My God, they knew they'd gonna have such a scene in this film. They could have built an expensive ass replica, that has motors inside and moves quite realistically, like they did for the horses in "Braveheart" and spend money on it that would make their budget explode, or they could have done what they did and eat it afterwards. Serves a certain reason and I'm sure the deer, nor the deer's family would have complained about the fact it is in the movie.

You'll say now, "What if the deer family knew why their family member had to die?"

Well, they didn't, simply as that. They only knew it was hunted, like so many of them before.

It's immoral and unecessary... there's no getting around that.

They could have fired a fake arrow at the Deer and cut to a shot of it falling over.

Not expensive and more humane.

Would it be OK if I shot a human if I then ate him?

If I can have leftovers, then yes. Please kill and eat as many people as you want.
Mark wrote:Would you want your death to be filmed for viewing pleasure?
Hell yeah. That's better than dying in the shadows.

Re: the deer:
Yes it's wrong to kill a deer.
No it's not completely wrong to kill a deer on camera and eat it.

IMHO.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

That is not closely comparable as this would be cannibalism.

If you are talking from a vegetarian point of view, I can see where you're coming from, though.

BTW, I'm vegetarian 8) .

Years ago, people genuinely didn't have a choice when struggling to survive, but it's different now and in the film, it can be faked. If people really needed to eat deer, then use a less painful method. Would be better if it didn't happen at all (regardless of being vegetarian).

I'm not a veggie, but morally wish I was.

I got a taste for blood at a young age. :(

Well, OK, cannibalism aside then, would it be OK if a deer killed a human, as long as he ate him afterward?

LOL, how do you come up with such questions. It's not like I'm an expert, but...

...if a deer ate a human I wouldn't be able to do anything about it. I'd prefer to burry the corpse, but if he's eaten, I'm left with the only option to burry poo once it's out, lol. In wild life, animals do not get burried, though.

Sorry you're right as long as they saved money screw the animal. If humans suffered in the name of food like animals we wouldn't kill so many of them.

You're really scratching the bottom of the barrel now, what an absurd thing to say.

It serves no reason other than greed and disrespect.

The same way you come with such tripe.
thelostdragon wrote:That is not closely comparable as this would be cannibalism.
Bollocks it's very much a direct comparison, a life is a life. I see no difference. Just because we're (supposedly) more intelligent does that give us the right to slaughter and generally not give a shit about other life?

Okay how about: "Would it be OK if I shot a mentally handicapped human if I then ate him?"

??? - A mentally handicapped human is arguably less intelligent than many other animals (yes we're animals too).

We're all born at least equal.

animal cruelty is wrong in any form...especially just killing for the sake of entertainment...

i agree brad, a life is a life. the only time i adovcate the killing of an animal is if say its been run over and wont survive and is incredible pain...i advocate putting it out of its pain, but not just killing it for entertainment purposes, thats plain wrong. how can one say "its bad to harm a cat or dog or domesticated animal" but not care that people kill wild animals? never got that at all.

see now the vegetarians are taking over theres what, 3 of us now?

Me neither.

Well I know why, it's because people think of those animals in an emotional sense and not others. If an animal is considered to be attractive it also gets preferential treatment too.

At least the people who'd eat anything I can understand (to an extent) but everyone else well big hypocrites.

@ LD Yep.

I'm surprised you didn't already know. If asked it's not something I keep secret, although I make a rule of not preaching about it (unless someone's clearing looking to start an argument).

I have been since I was 14, so almost 14 years. It's as strong to me as other people's religion.
