The most faithful comic/graphic novel-to-film adaptation IMO is the underrated The Rocketeer and Batman Begins is the only recent example I've got any time for.

I though Mos Def was excellent in the film. He played the role of someone who's a little tweaked really well.
Willis gives a really good performance as well.

Well, Washington wasn't the definition of a cop in Training Day, was he now?

But he was rather good in this.

Where to beginning with this marvellous indie movie making, okay we will start with the social commentary of homeless people in the 80's, and their stuggles. Addicated to beer, gin and anything they can buy with 1 dollar, which as the movie shows kills him inside...

Okay enough of that... One thing is that it true, they don't make these films anyone, it great, i really really enjoyed it. Where else can you see a movie where a detective beating the crap out of a italian henchman, then drag him to the toilet, and puke up on him

The transfer is sooooo good, and the extras is excellent. I didn't know Bryan singer was an assistant in this, in the extras he is talking about his involvement in the movie and how he was shocked when he was getting lunch, a naked girl was there
It may be an indie movie, but the special effects are really really good, i love the grossness of it, and it once of a few films that actually look into homeless people. Some of the sets are great... Few disturbing scenes like the rape scene..

But overall a classic movie.... Highly recommended

I actually liked the director cut of Musa.. Which is why I got the Madman release

I have always loved this one...I NEVER get sick of all the over the top stuff, truly non-stop fun. How i wish they still made films like this

The Arab hotel keeper makes me laugh out loud every time
"ahhh good sleep!!"
<coming out with a huge M-249> "where are the robbers!!"
The wonderful HK post-sync english dialog makes it all the better

This Hong Kong/Singapore co-production does look like a lot but lacks a bunch. Kenneth Bi's endorsement by Jackie Chan is welcome but he needs a vehicle or two to develop skills in the small scale dramatic field. Film lacks the realism and emotions intended but Sylvia Chang repsonds well though.

Chai-lai - 2,5/5
Charlies Angels Thai style. Better or worse? A little bit of both actually. The first 15 minutes counts amonth the worst openings I’ve seen. Later Chai-lai turns into a stupid but enjoyable action comedy that brings the 80’s HK actioners to mind. Then it goes downhill again till you’re treated with something so unbelievable that you won’t believe your eyes. The physical limitations of the performers shows and hiring a HK choreographer would’ve been a good idea. But they’re trying hard, that’s for sure. The soundtrack is horrible, but if you don’t let that bother you you should be able to enjoy the film (most of the time).

The Wayward Cloud – 3,5/5
Disappointing musical numbers but otherwise a fascinating little film. Lots of very good, very long scenes in which nothing yet everything happens. Those scenes tell more about the characters than 100 lines of dialogue. Only a few directors can do it right. Tsai Ming-liang seems to be one of them.

The Bothersome Man – 3/5
Andreas is doing well. He has just moved to a new town, he’s got a great new job, he’s found a new girlfriend (who doesn’t mind being cheated) and his finger doesn’t hurt even though he half accidentally cuts it off. And finally, there’s a rabbit hole in the wall with bright light coming through it... Moving back and forth between realism and surrealism, The Bothersome Man is an interesting ”satire” of the Norwegian wellfare society. It doesn’t seem to have that much to say, though. When to movie ends you’ve left to wonder if this was just a good joke stretched into a feature length movie.

Sacred Family (La Sagrada Familia / 2004) – 2,5/5
Poor first half. Realism and grittyness for the sake of realism and grittyness. On the positive side it worked at times and I liked how ”real” the actors were (no make up for example). Storywise not very catchy and some of the subplots were almost irritating (the stereotypical ”realistic” gay couple...). The second half however is good, and the ending is nothing short of perfect. Almost made me wanna see the movie again.

Rosario Tijeras – 1,5/5
”A new cult film and a box office hit from Colombia” or something like that... Actually this female gangster flick is both boring and embarrassingly bad. Those who love big breasted Latin American women may get something of of this because the main character spends half of the movie naked. The only scene I really liked was the funeral episode... how ironic...

The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai – 3,5/5
Japanese sexploitation has come a long way down from the A-class studio productions to Z-grade students films. Sachiko Hanai however must be one of the best genre productions of the recent years. The production values are below zero, but the film is funny as hell. A prostitute with a bullet in her head is on the run from a North Korean spy who’s after George W. Bush’s cloned finger. Can she hide from the deadly communist spy? Can she escape Mr. Presidents horny finger? And can she save the world from the most evil finger on the planet?

Too many sex scenes, yes, but luckily most of them are intentionally comic. Unfortunately a disgusting rape scene has been included as well and it’s totally out of place. Thankfully there’s only one of them, those related to Bush’s cloned finger don’t count... As mentioned, the budget is non-existent so don’t expect any 70’s kind of firework visuals. The leading actress (Emi Kuroda) however is unexpectedly cute and ”innocent”. Definitely a good thing in my books. And when you’re just about to get tired of her, Mr. George W. Bush steps in and steals the show. I saw the film in a sold out screening and it was an absolute laugh riot, especially the Bush scenes...

Cryptic murder mystery with some added Category III rated erotica and gore to keep us busy. In synch sound surprisingly and ambitious but director Lo Kin (Heartbeat 100) loses us and himself eventually.

The Banquet (Feng Xiao-Gang / Zhang Ziyi): 0,5 / 2,5

I'm giving it half points because I only watched half of it.

I don't think I could watch the second half without vomiting blood.

-The actors can't act (except Ge You, maybe).
-The script is appalling (looks like it was written by a 4-year old).
-Too much slow-motion (this is what killed The Duelist as well).
-The action choregraphy is ridiculous (I don't even recognize Woo-Ping).
-The wirework is laughable.
-The CGI is awful (note that this is coming from someone who loved the CGI bulls in The Promise).
-The score is original but too wacky at times for this kind of film.

There is a gratuitous nude Ziyi shot, but don't get your hopes up. Looks like a body double.

I won't deny that some shots in this movie are magnificent, but that's a bit thin.

Maybe they could make it work by speeding up the fight scenes and removing all the dialogue, but I doubt it.

Nothing can save this film.
