Glad you enjoyed it. I watched this and found it to be better than Infernal Affairs, but only because I felt that the HK triad genre had been flogged to death since IA was released. I agree with you, spoiler tags not required.tom2681 wrote:36 Quai des Orfèvres: 4,25/5
Good movie.
An Infernal Affairs-like flick with a touch of Oldboy, that turns into The Fugitive and ends with A True Mob Story.![]()
Cinematography is excellent, and so are the actors.
The music is average but good enough to fit the tone of the film.
There's a slight lack of character development on Depardieu's side, but it doesn't hurt the film much.
I'll buy the DVD.

How many Miyazakis have you seen? I think Howl's may be one of his weakest. IMO from best to worst:HungFist wrote:My Neighbor Totoro – 4/5
I’ve never been a huge fan on Miyazaki but I must say this was excellent. Much better than the over-rated Howl's Moving Castle. I only own two animes so far, this could be the third.
Laputa
Spirited Away
My Neighbour Totoro
Porco Rosso
Kiki's Delivery Service
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
Nausicca
(The last three I'll need to watch and examine again).
I wasn't so keen on seeing this but it's been receiving a lot of praise. Think I might check it out...HungFist wrote: Re-Cycle - 4/5
God Damn, I don’t normally even like CGI movies but this was fucking amazing. Probably the most amazing special effects extravaganza I’ve ever seen. Starts with some mediocre horror and drama, and soon after comes a 80 minute climax. One terrible sentimential scene at the end brings down the rating by half a star. See this film on the biggest screen possible. And why is there no French dvd announced yet (the HK dvd is supposed to suck)...? I want to see this film again...
I'd love to see this but I've only seen like two Kitano movies. I might try collecting them once I get back from Japan.HungFist wrote: Takeshis’ – 4/5
Worked even better on the second viewing, even though it seriously repeats itself. The ending image is also surprisingly lame (or maybe I just don’t get it). Everything else is great.

Same here, I wasn't too interested in seeing it at first. I don't like asian horror, I don't like CGI and I had only seen one movie from the Pang brothers before (Bangkok Dangerous, which sucked mostly).BiscLimpkit wrote: I wasn't so keen on seeing this but it's been receiving a lot of praise. Definitely. You should leave Takeshis' for the last bacause it's full of references to other Kitano movies. The whole film is a sort of self study or analysis. I think even a person who doesn't know Kitano so well could enjoy it because it's a well made movie but the more you know about Kitano the more you'll get out of it.BiscLimpkit wrote:I'd love to see this but I've only seen like two Kitano movies. @Bisc:
Start with light stuff, like Dolls, Kikujiro, Brother and Zatoichi.
Then watch serious stuff, like Hana-Bi, Sonatine and Kids Return.
Then you can try the weird stuff, like Getting Any, Scene at the Sea, Jugatsu and Violent Cop.
Then... well, you've seen them all already.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Thanks Tom for seperating the films into categories. Makes it easier to collect.
Watch Laputa - that film is a goddamn masterpiece. I think out of the films that you've seen, I don't rate Howl's and Mononoke as highly as his other films. I don't think you'll like Nausicca either, but definitely get Laputa and Porco Rosso (and Kiki's Delivery Service if you enjoyed the aforementioned titles).HungFist wrote: Only Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and Totoro

Thought this was much better than the TC, there was more insight into DD/Murdoch.
There are a few questions:
How does DD know martial arts? Does he train in martial arts but we don't see?![]()
Does Elektra die?
Why do they call him Kingpin? Because he has wooden legs?![]()
In the Spiderman cartoon, Kingpin/Fisk is white (not saying the casting of Duncan is wrong)
The fights were good, loved the courtship fight in the playground, cool as fuck 8)
Bullseye is great - "I want a fucking costume!"
No
Kingpin as in big mafia type gang boss

The Contract 3.5/5
Not quite as good as Security Unlimited, although still pretty fantastic. Love the way it satirises the cut-throat world of the entertainment industry, and goes very OTT but in a funny way.

Went to see this last night at my local cinema. It wasn't bad, but not exactly great either. There were some funny jokes, but they weren't often enough to keep me laughing all the way through. But Kate Beckinsdale looked very yummy...

Bejing Bicycle
A great movie - with some great ideas and very likeable characters.
Those young actors are really great - and there is this one actress Gao Yuanyuan. Her performance isn't outstanding, but I noticed that she'll be in Jackie Chan's Rob-B-Hood as well. I just hope that she isn't playing his love interest, because she couldn't just be his daughter, but also his granddaughter...
But back to Bejing Bicycle: I really liked it - it's a little masterpiece

What's with the different versions?
Really they are all the same film, but with slight changes here and there, which is shitty it has to be said. The film I saw in the cinema is not the one I own on dvd thats for sure

[interrupted]
Statham: [Sarcastically] Yea, yeah, your gonna rape my grandmother, then your gonna do her in, blah, blah, Fucking Blah!
