Restless (Yet another korean swordplay film)

Post by tom2681 »

Title: Restless
Country: South Korea
Director: Jo Dong-Ho (first-time director)
Actors: Jung Woo-Sung (Musa / Daisy), Kim Tae-Hee (Last Present)
Release date: not far from now, I think
Composer: Sagisu Shiro (Casshern !!!!!)

Flash trailer:
http://flvs.daum.net/flvPlayer.swf?vid=Rt_h7dvbNHs$

Looks Shadowless Sword-esque, with a touch of Legend of Evil Lake and Bichunmoo.
Between Curse of the Golden Flower, the Banquet, Dororo, Jade Warrior and this one, winter is going to be full of wirework. :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

If this is going to be half as good as the trailer, I'm gonna get it. Looks awesome. Thanks, Tom!

Great! I really enjoyed the music in Casshern.

Coincidentally, I just realized that Bleach is also full of Sagisu Shiro's music (it's good too).

If you don't want to see the greatest film in History, then that's your loss. :D

Agreed it does look good but then they always do based on the trailer. Why use Flash? It's got to be "the" worst format for a trailer, worse than RealPlayer.

I've usually forgotten all about most Korean films by the time they've come to a completely English friendly DVD. It will be at least next Spring before a Western label picks it up.

Hmmm... can't think of any great Korean swordplay films apart from "Bichunmoo", really. "Shadowless Sword" for example was wasted potential and in my opinion only mediocre. The same goes for "Sword in the Moon" and "Legend of the Evil Lake" IMO. Any others out there worth to mention?

Buchunmoo - Awesome
Shadowless Sword - Awesome ..but not quite as good as Buchunmoo
Sword in the Moon - I love this movie more then anyone, i think. I will admit that the script needs some work as the story is incorherant for some people...but the story underneath the slightly "in-need-of-rewrite" script is excellent...and the film itself has some great scenes.
Legend of Evil Lake - Another one everyone hates. I enjoyed it very much.

I feel strongly like i'm forgetting one (i forget films all the time when trying to make lists)

I thought about adding "The Duelist", but that crap film is more of a comedy than a swordplay film ala "Bichunmoo".

RF, I didn't hate "Legend of the Evil Lake". Just thought it was mediocre. I watched it at the theatre and the only good thing it did was to get my friend into Asian swordplay films, as he has enjoyed it and wanted more.

Ok i cannot deny that Duelist was not really a good film, but the only thing that makes that a historical swordplay film is the fact its in a historical setting, everything else about the movie is just over-styleised silliness...not even any real martial arts/swordplay action. ...but all these other Korean Swordplay movies are awesome, IMO.
